Skyshards in PVP zones WHY?

I do both PVP and PVE, but I did Cyro/IC overland questing stuff mainly with PVE builds. And I agree with others, you don't need the skyshards for skill points. You need them if you are a PVP player or a completionist. My main has about 450 skill points and I don't need that many. There's plenty of skill points on the PVE side. So much so that PVP players have to come to PVE if they want a proper build.

The only times I have needed an actual PVP build for the PVE stuff was fishing in IC with a tanky build, and getting the behind-the-gates skyshards in Cyro with a group of guild members. Even that was PVDoor instead of PVP.

All of this is optional. If you get killed, the only thing you lose is some time (and perhaps half of your daily reward telvars if you forgot to bank them before going to IC), and since all of this is optional, who cares? There is absolutely no need to go there if you don't want to. Only in case you want to get all the achievements this becomes an issue. And in that case you should be playing PVP anyway. Can't get those PVP achievements without playing PVP.

You do have to repair your equipment, so you lose some gold.
Only if you die to NPCs. If you die to a player, your equipment won't lose any durability. The only thing you may lose if you die to a player is in IC if you forgot to bank your telvar stones.

And well, time. But if you go to a PVP area, expect to die. Nothing there is needed for PVE, except Assault and Support skill lines until level 6 if you play a support role, but otherwise, there really isn't anything else a PVE player definitely needs.

    Why?

because Cyradil is a zone and they had left-overs they needed to stick somewhere.

Meanwhile, it takes 586 skill points to fill in every skill line and morph every active skill on one character.

But hey, at least we're getting closer to having enough.

Why would you need every skill line filled?
Once you finish trait researching, you don't need those filled.

Having those filled improves your chances of getting master writs.
I think it's having completed the research that improves the chances.

I'm not getting any writs dropping currently

Number of passives filled is one of the factors, along with number of traits researched and number of motifs known.

Did you have any supporting documentation? Everything I've looked athttps://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3811984/#Comment_3811984 says:
    • 'traits researched'
    • 'complete motifs'
    • 'all enchant combos researched'
    • 'all alchemy traits researched'

    Never anything about skill points.

    Apparently I was misinformed.

So how does one get the skill point finder to acknowledge a tutorial skyshard you got in 2014 when the msq is done and you can't redo wailing prison? Lol. My skill point window says I have all skyshards...

    Why?

    PvP players need skyshards too.

It encourages exploration, for people to go to areas that are not keeps, etc.

It also seems unrealistic (RP wise) for skyshards not to be there.

    ••••

Also, the amount of skyshards in PvP zones vs non PvP zones is extremely small. Just get your skywards elsewhere.

Also with account-wide achievements now, since it seems like the actual issue here is the achievement... you can go on different characters and get the skyshards in each faction's territory... it used to all have to be done on one character and you had to wait till your faction took the entire map to get some of the last skyshards behind other factions' gates. So much easier now.

In addition to some of the suggestions above, use a nb or invisibility pots and/or the vampire passive / night mother's silence set for faster sneak speed. Go at a quiet time or on a quiet server. It's NOT some insurmountable thing where there's a sweaty pvp army defending each skyshard.

Exactly. I still get mad when I think about the way you can get this achievement on more than one character when I got it years ago on my PvE main character.

You are not forced to get these skyshards, but that achievement got me, a player who never did PvP before, into Cyrodiil and I enjoyed it enough to make new characters specifically for PvP and play there nearly every day. It’s also an exciting challenge for those who only PvP. You get the Explorer title for clearing the delves too. I wore that on my main character for a long time.

    Redguard Stamina Dragonknight
    Orc Stamplar PVP

    Khajiit Stamina Arcanist

I think it was just ZOS putting skyshards in Cyrodiil like they did in the other zones. Remember, Cyrodiil was part of the game from day 1, and I suspect that the general attitude of ESO's playerbase toward Cyrodiil and PvP were a bit different then.

I remember Cyro being a big part of the beta and beyond.

With Matt Firor coming from DAoC this was hardly surprising.

Furthermore besides the skyshards behind the artifact gates the rest are just a chill ride to collect these days; outside 'peak hours' there is hardly anyone in Cyro.

I have collected these with 30 characters now - although I usually wait until Mayhem to collect the ones behind the artifact gates - and I sincerely don't remember when was the last time I was killed by another player in the process (which would be ridiculously easy as a) I am hopelessly incompetent at PvP with little chance of ever getting any better and b) I don't really bother 'dressing for the occasion' either).

The ones in IC might require a bit more thought if nothing else for the sake of expediency - nothing is really lost upon death other than one's time if one is carrying no tel var - so I generally slap together something cheap and 'sneaky' (like Night Terror/Night Mother's Embrace + Darloc Brae + RotWH + Dark Stalker) to get the job done but if even that is too much an ask one can wait till Mayhem, birth an unholy zerg abomination with guildies and do it that way too... or skip them altogether tbh.

I dont PVP but getting the shards are easy with the equipment and skills already mentioned here.

Only annoyance I can think of is riding around in Cyrodiil. That will take some time and some unfortunate times you might get ganged in a delve when you might have to run all the way back. Other than that it's pretty straight forward and you don't have to fight anyone.

Also, like mentioned before, there are so many shards these days that you have to be a completionist if you need to have them all, no other reason.

That's just how it goes: sometimes the path is clear because everyone's either defending the scroll temple or trying to retake the home keep, other times you'll run into someone who has appointed themselves the Skyshard Police.

Getting those done on my last alt was *such* a relief.

As the title says... Skyshards in pvp zones WHY?.. I have done all skyshards in cyrodil, it took time and is paine in the (smooth place).
Constsnt killing while trying to get a skyshard or standing fishing. Then when i noticed i have done it ,but mising some in the Impreial city severs and there is even a aouside...
Why are ZOS pushing us into PVP , some of us hate it and dont want to bother with it. The severs were hard as alone you die fast and players are mostly <snip>, they see someone is just runing by..Nooo lets gank the <snip> out of him. I reaaly wished i couldg get all skyshards , but i dont want to do PVP......
Same goes to the quests in these areas, to do them you just need to get <snip>. ganked over and over and over and over.... i play in pve guilds and i prefer pve content.
SO why are we pushed into PVP?
No i dont want to git gud, nor i want to pvp..

    <snipped for Cursing/Profanity>

There is this skin that I really want, but it is locked behind pve content. Why is ZOS forcing me to pve? I do not want to change my build and work at getting good enough to do this, so why is ZOS forcing me to pve?
