I used to get random mini side arenas but now I only chase these books within the IA. Is this normal behavior? (not to mention that I mostly fail in this specific arena)

If you’re talking about the watcher area then maybe you have completed the achievement for the other side areas and it keeps giving you the same one since you haven’t completed the achievement for it. It will give it to you until you do it 5 successful times I believe. I could be wrong. After you get achievement it will go back to mostly random.

Yea, the selection of which area you get is curated and not random.

You will get the book quest area if you have a completed book quest.

Otherwise, you'll get an area for which you have not completed the achievement for.

And only if you don't meet these two conditions will the selection be truly random.

As for the watcher area, my two tips are to always keep moving (you should be able to outrun the zombies that chase you), and to drop the puddle (ability 5) whenever you can, which will slow down and damage the zombies that chase you.

BTW: I now managed the watcher arena once (and failed miserably twice suite)

On a second run I now only get that path puzzle thingy...

One tip for the watcher area is to slot movement speed CP. It counts both negative and positive CP stars.

for the bonus portals you will always get the one you have the lowest level completed

they are only "random" if you have all completed at the highest difficulty

if you are only getting 1 type of bonus portal, its because this is the one you do not have at the highest difficulty yet

almost all of the bonus portals are much easier when run with a partner lol
