Feeling uneasy about buying houses now

I love the free house, but the fact it was given for free to everyone after it was for sale for 13k crowns makes me very uneasy about future house purchases. Can imagine how bad i would feel if i bought extremely expensive 10k+ crown house and then just saw it handed out for free to everyone. It might stop me from buying houses for crowns altogether.

Isn’t this a brand new free house that was never on the market ever?

This house is brand new this month. The value is around 13k crowns. But it's never been listed at that on the store, or on the store at all.

Every single free house that they had given away--this one plus all that they had done in the past--were new and never-before-released when it was given away.

Some of them appeared for purchase in the crown a long time later, for the people who missed the giveaway. But they've never given away a house that had been on sale first.

But to be fair, this was the case with Iron Orc Welva mount, which was a brand new FOMO crown store item for 3k, and couple of months later given away for free as daily login reward. They usually do reverse, first it's daily login reward, then crown store item.

Yes, it’s been 2-3 years for event houses (Psijic villa, Alpine gallery) from their initial giveaway to the time they’re offered for sale. We’ll see when the Necrom house makes it to the store, but I would think on the order of a few years as well. It’s been six(?) months since that one.

A mount is a lot cheaper than a Notable house.

3000 crowns is about 20 dollars on Steam's crown packs. So "cheap" is relative depending on each person.

Spending close to 20 dollars on a mount to then see it free for everyone... ;)

The same place I draw the line on weekly changing grocery store deals. Next week is not today, and any money I paid today to get something that is cheaper or free next week is money I spent to get that item today, early. This is almost an expectation with any digital or electronic product as well. Everything gets a sale eventually. I bought a $600 tv 4 months ago that is now around 250, oh well, I am sure it will get cheaper and better tvs will come along for the same price I spent and do the exact same thing 4 months later.

Thats because it will in the future be available with crowns. They always bring these things back, just like the Psijic Villa and the Antiquarians Gallery.

Yes, better TVs will come and surely that TV shop will lower the price of the $600 TV, but I can assure you the TV shop won't give it for free to eveyone, as it was the case with the 20 dollars welwa.

Just close this thread down as it's apparently been a misunderstanding and instead open one in regards of the welwa situation with a title that clearly adressing zos for this manner. The current thread title doesn't exactly fit, nor benefit any portion of the playerbase.

Companies give away products as parts of deals and promotions sometimes. Get a free fry with the purchase of a burger, for example. 20 bucks is the cheaper end of crown store purchases relative to how expensive the spendy stuff gets like 60 bucks for a chapter or 100 bucks for a house (sample prices not checking the real ones). So, it's not surprising to me that products that are cheap relative to the other products being sold are given away as parts of deals, promos, and giveaways. It makes people happy and happy customers spend more money.

As a customer, I'm not owed price freezes on products. They can get more or less expensive and also be given away. I spend money only when I want the product then and there at the advertised price.

I don't personally draw a line. I honestly don't care that much. But, if I were to draw a line, 3K or less would probably be it. 5K+ is when the higher quality and tier items start to show up. But, I don't care that much either way.

    Anyone can give away anything.

Many years ago, the Sultan of Brunei bought TVs for everyone in his country.

On the same month... they gave away for free that mount, Orsinium DLC (sold before for crowns) and a pet (sold in crown store too, few months before).
I hope they have learned that this is unfair.
Hope they won't do it again.
Only brand new items for free... thank you :-)

i also already had Orsinium but we are not the only people who play this game.
so i hope they do it again because lots of people got nice things they didn't have yet.

and this is a celebration of a decade of the game!
it isn't surprising zos would celebrate old dlc too and with it give away items related to that, old and new (as the inkfur Ursauk was entirely new during the Orsinium promotion).

What if this house had been for sale? Is that any different than those of us that missed out on previous free houses having to pay for them if we want them now?

A mount is a lot cheaper to make.

The price for either is quite steep, considering that this isn't a little niche MMO, where the item needs to be profitable after a handful units sold, but the price difference kind of reflects the work hours invested:

A new mount with all new animations is maybe a week's work, a new model fit to existing animations a day or two, a retexture an afternoon. On a house, especially such a beauty with so much detail, someone must have worked several weeks, if not months.

    Exactly!!

The same song over and over again. Complaining is a trend.

I also don't have the Grand Psijic Vila House for free because I didn't play the game when Summerset was released. And when that house was given away. Who didn't have Greymore didn't get the Apline Gallery for free either, and now it's like a returning house for crowns.
For God's sake, I've been buying Orsinium and Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood for my wife too, and I'm not complaining about Orsinium and Thieves Guild DLCs giveaway.

The game doesn't revolve around the individual.

Btw.. So it would probably be better according to the logic of some complainers to get rid of all the people and everything was paid and I would also cancel daily rewards, because what if someone accidentally forgets to log in, those things are also free.

Not to go too deeply into this, but to point out that the Sultan of Brunei was spending his country's money, which he treats as his own. He is an absolute monarch. To treat that as a "gift" is, well, gross.

I DID have Greymoor when the alpine house was given away but didn't know about it and didn't know how to collect it (even though I was logging in daily at the time - I didn't pay as much attention to the forums or the news posts, etc.). If I want it I'll have to buy it, and that's okay. I've received lots of other free goodies over the years.
