hi, is there an addon to show chest locations for trials/dungeons? Iv tried bandits user interface but the mini map doesn't even appear, even when enabled and I have mini map by franklin where the mini map shows but there isn't a chest icon to show or reveal a chests location where that be before anyone sees it or it doesn't show even after the first person opening it

Maybe harvestmap? I have two different addons showing chests but I’m not sure which is which or why I have two. But I know with harvestmap you can download the data.

    Hi
The Addon I use for chests is "Map pins". It will display chest locations you have already visited if you have the filter ticked on the map display. It also has a lot of other useful locations.

    Have fun

Harvestmap is the best choice imho, since you can activate both map/minimap pins AND 3D pins for chests — and there is an option within the "3D Pin Settings" HarvestMap options, which reads "Use depth-buffer for 3D pins".. And if that's turned off, that makes those 3D pins visible through walls/floors/everything.

I found chests/troves hidden in nooks & crannies, I would've never found otherwise

as far as im aware harvest map does track the chests, but it doesnt display the 3d pins in group dungeons and trials (unless they added some setting to bypass that)

There cannot be shown any 3d pins or controls in dungeons, the API is disabled in there.
Only group markers by vanilla game work in there, or addons overwriting the group markers with different icons (Ody Support e.g.)
and the target markers (non changeable by addons!) work.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

It is true that the API for drawing things in the 3D space is disabled in dungeons and trials, which is why Harvest Map's 3D pins will not show up in those places.

This API restriction was put in place when these APIs were first introduced, and ZOS stated that these restrictions were added to prevent addons from drawing things on the ground to aid mechanics.

But ZOS left unrestricted functions that can calculate where a point in 3D space would appear in the current camera perspective. This information, coupled with some math, can allow an addon to position an element in the 2D UI space in such a way that it gives off the illusion that it's in a fixed position in 3D space.

And this is what Ody's Support Icons does. OSI is basically a clever hack to use this loophole to position textures in the 2D UI space so that they emulate things in the 3D space. It's quite hackish, and it involves OSI recalcuating positions and constantly moving those textures many times per second.

A more troubling matter is that there are an increasing number of addons that use OSI's hack to draw things on the ground to aid in mechanics, which is in direct contravention of the reason behind the restriction of the 3D APIs in dungeons and trials. (I personally think that addons that do this are crossing a line that should not be crossed.)

Oh thanks for that info @code65536 , I never checked their code and thought they just replace the group pins o0
    Good to know.

    Same!
It was restricted by ZOs for reasons and should not be abused by any way then.
It might relate tothem removing the API and posibilities for all, if someone abuses it...
