What better way to celebrate 10 years under RNGeesus's yoke than to add limited edition items with abysmally low drop rates? I had planned to spend a longer time playing yesterday and enjoying the event, but unsuccessfully farming bosses, geysers and dolmens left me exhausted and wishing to switch to a game beyond RNGeesus's grasp.

Couldn't agree more. At this point it's the friends that I play with that are keeping me playing, because ESO has gotten less and less rewarding over the years.

That’s pretty much in line with ZOS expectation. They shared in anniversary stream today they only expect people to play up to 5 months for the content. Up to 5 years it’s only expected for community; friends.

It was a 5min, 5 days, weeks, months and years graphic. It actually put a lot in perspective - and I would say it’s pretty spot on.

I don't know what you mean, getting Trueflame on my first "catch" and then farming geysers for hours with no result feels great. I'm still trying to figure out who at Zenimax came up with the brilliant idea to tie drops this rare to a source that spawns one at a time in only one zone and nothing else.... the game does really excite me when things die before they even appear and the audio constantly cuts out to the point that I find myself fully muting the game.

This probably just random chance but I noticed when I am farming the event that I get all the cool stuff stuff fairly in the beginning of my session after the daily reset. The longer I play the more basic fodder I get. Maybe they keep track you only get a few limited special rewards each day.

I do think that a lot of hardcore players have the wrong expections of this event. The point probably is playing the game as you normally do and get extra's along the way, some good, some basic. I don't think their goal was that people are doing the same world boss or world event for 20 hours a day to collect every legendary item/crown store item they are missing in 3 hours.

Rare, bound and time limited is such a crappy combination. Wouldnt really be an issue if they dropped outside the event imo.

Imho they should have adjusted the drop rate for these. You can get Trueflame easily enough but you also get far more chances per node. I feel like the drop rate is the same for Trueflame and other items, which you earn from events that take far more time and involvement...

This event last 20 days and in 2 days i've already collected the 5 pages.
What annoy me are the permanently unavaible items like those given in the "dragon rise" event.

All items should be returning and earnable with the same amount of work other players put in to get them.

    Simple, FOMO.
These are free cosmetics, some people might want them, especially if they see other people use them. And they have a right to want them, they play the game/pay for it - they want to have the same experience/benefits as others.

Plus, sunk cost fallacy. You spent x hrs farming something, didn't get it - not getting it later will feel only like all this time was a waste.

The RNG grind for far too many things in ESO is just not worth it. Totally saps the fun out of the game. I'm still shocked at how ZOS devs still don't seem to realize this.

For some people the challenge of collecting items is part of the game. Maybe not for you but for others it is.

As someone who does enjoy completionism with 97% achievement points collected, every recipe, motif and almost all furnishings whilst I use next to none of them I enjoy collecting them.

These items have been made overly rare and with a fixed end date which is poor. Add to that it’s for a celebration event when the aim should be to reward players, making it so unbelievably hard to acquire is shocking.

Zos has done really well at removing RNG over grinds and even some super rare items were made much more accessible in the last patch.

Doing this just gives a bad taste for a lot of people and makes us waste time/get annoyed which is totally counter productive to the aim.

Yes, I agree with this so much, I'm missing the first cake furnishing because I wasn't playing for a time then, and it feels so crappy that I can never get it even though I've had my account since beta.
I also get they're doing it o you "have to keep up" and play to get the rewards, and so that players feel that their earned rewards aren't just "given" away to people who join later.

I am enjoying the event to a certain point,. but all of the complaints about poor RNG on the special page drops are definitely valid. People I was grouped with during dolmen grinding were not getting box drops at all due to not being able to do damage on the bosses before they instantly died to 40 people zerging them before it even spawns. It's bad enough that the RNG is terrible, but spending 3-4 minutes doing a dolmen or geyser over and over to get nothing at all nearly every time is pretty bad. We all just went and did something else, which created an atmosphere of exclusion, when it should be enjoyment.

The Style page drops from Geysers and Dolmens are extremly bad. Been farming for around 4h (72 geysers) in Summerset and around 1h (21 dolmens) in Auridon. Got NO(!) Style pages  !!!

In Vvardenfell I was lucky and got both pages withing 5 WB kills.

Fishing I can't say, since I didn't try to get that page. Will try in the next few days.

I think we're talking specifically about cosmetics, not in-game rewards, achievements and building blocks. But clearly some people like to waste their time in pursuit of utterly useless items.

We had a guildie who was addicted to collecting worms (fishing bait) and was hell bent on reaching 100,000 for some unknown reason.

Mindlessly collecting stuff that has no bearing on anything other than 'because I want to' carries no weight.

With that logic you could ask why even play the game, since it's technically "useless", just digital pixels on a screen. I assume you play because you enjoy it. Some people want to complete their collections because they find that enjoyable also, including "useless" cosmetics. Everyone has their niche, and these drop rates are hell for completionists and collectors. You telling people what they want to do is "useless" carries no weight.

I feel like this is a really extreme example that does not apply to the majority of players in any MMO.
Now, I've been playing MMOs since elementary school. I could not even tell you the exact age or year I started playing them because it's just been that long. One of the things that made this genre of gaming my favorite even as an adult is that the time/effort I put into it always either earns me something or progresses my character(s) in some way. This is something single-player RPGs never could give me. And funnily enough, this is something ESO has also always fallen short on. And it's the only MMO that I've played that has ever done so. I figure this is why in my other MMO communities, ESO is kind of seen as an outlier that doesn't appeal to endgame PvE, PvP, or even just casual RPG fluff focused players.
Yes, there are things I love about the game.... but it doesn't change the fact that I feel like I get nothing out of the money, time, and effort I put into it. And this 10 year anniversary event, something that should not only be celebrating the game and it's devs, but also the players.... well, it feels like a huge slap in the face and it just serves as another reason I'll continue distancing myself from this game.

I've noticed that. Everything in this game is RNG. EVERYTHING
Want new gear? Well go do trials and pray to RNGesus.
Want mythics, furnishing, cosmetics? you'll meet an RNG barrier on every single one.

It took me 75 geyser runs to get Ul'vors, i'm now way past 200 attempts at getting Trueflame. I'm about done with this "game" it's nothing but a virtual dice roll simulator where you can't even see the face of the roll.
