Making the chat text bigger, from the social section, kind of mitigates the issue of the text being fuzzy. At least you will be able to see it more clearly.

That was my first approach, thinking maybe they'd just reset my settings,

Obviously this isn't the end of the universe, but it's a real step down in quality that just makes it unpleasant to look at lol.

Hopefully the folks stumbling upon this thread will check the prior pages to see the examples that have been posted as I would hate to get yelled at for spamming the same thing

Hi all, we are still looking into this. If you have the ability to change resolutions on your monitor, could we get a few people to try scaling up to 1440 or 4k? Just to see if fonts look off for multiple resolutions, or if it seems like a 1080p specific issue.

I realize that it’s a resolution still used by a lot of people, but honestly, once you game (or do anything for that matter) on a higher resolution, it will be hard to go back. The low pixel density of the standard 1080p monitor is borderline nauseating for me to look at. Given that 1440p and even 4K monitors are far more affordable these days than they were even five years ago, I’ll never subject myself to 1080p again. I’d personally be gaming in 4K if I had a better graphics card, but I’m stuck with my RTX 3060 for the moment.

Hi there , appreciate the response and I'm sorry for tone. Looking at my words I'm realizing it was more in the realm of angry than constructive. My extreme attention to detail might be leading me to notice this more than some.

I seem to have misread the sticker on my monitor and I do in fact have a 1920x1080p screen (Curved if that matters, 1500R), so I can't test the higher rendering, but I've done what I can.

Enabling custom UI scale and cranking it all the way up seems to have eased the issue visually to me/my eyes don't notice it as much, although the UI is now enormous and maybe the blur mentioned above is less noticeable that way.

Also tried messing with some settings on the monitor itself, but that's mostly just related to refresh rate (165hz) and adaptive sync which doesn't seem to make a difference between on/off.

My native resolution is 1440x900. Tried to go up to 1080 and down to 480, the blur on text persist through all resolutions in my case. Changing Subsampling have no impact on text too

There's a setting on my monitor for "Image Enhancement" so i cranked that up to "Strongest" and while it does make the majority of the game a bit film-grainy , for some reason it fixes the issue with the blurry text in the overall game. Like completely, as though the change was never made. It's an MSI Optix G32C4W. I have zero clue.

The actual chat box font is still weird, but that fixed the blurry text issue elsewhere for some reason. I'd almost say it looks better than ever with that setting on. Unfortunately can't really play with that setting as it makes the overall graphics (and things outside of the game on my pc itself lol) look film-grainy, but I thought I would offer up this strange solution.

Edit: Dropping it down to "Strong" made it tolerable and pretty great and something I could play with, so I suspect this overall issue is related to our respective screens , not on ZOS's end.

Why did they changed the font? I don't understand. It wasn't a problem. Now it's all pixelized...

I've been trying everything I can on windows settings to try to fix the fonts on ESO and it doesn't seem possible.

I never saw any other thing in my system with this problem.

btw... I'm on at 1080p and if this means that I'll need to play at a higher resolution then I'll have to quit this game. :(

Playing at 1280x800 on a laptop (at the largest UI scaling).

Many things look fine, such as the chat window or character overview.

Small text looks absolutely terrible, such as attribute bars and my friends' list.

Most of the recent changes to graphics seem to be geared towards lowering server load and increasing performance at the cost of image clarity. I wouldn't expect to see that change going forward, considering all the new sets and skill/cosmetic effects (and achievement data, etc) that will continue to be released on a regular schedule. Every new thing added to the game increases the data footprint, and has a subsequent detrimental effect on performance.

It's even worse with the default large graphics. Try pickpocketing. It's hard to even read what type of NPC it is, and the percentage numbers are blurry as well. And that's on 1440p.

@ZOS_Kevin i do apologize for asking, but was this new feature at PTS?
Zenimax could at least warn players in advance, that to continue playing they MUST buy a better monitor or suffer the consequences (for me that is serious text degradation on my 1080p and my vision is not that sharp). I don't have a budget for a new monitor right now and got no warnings in advance to start saving for the monitor upgrade, so the innovation is kinda an unwelcome surprise for me personally.
Is this possible to provide an option to keep the good old normal font rendering, at least for a year/6 months to provide cheaptards like me a reasonable window to buy better monitor to be able to continue playing comfortably at least for a while? If that was not significant i would not post that here at Forums. For now game turned to become an unpleasant mess for me.
Kevin, i dont mean any offense, i am just utterly upset with this certain U41 new surprise feature. :s Please, revert.

All of things plaguing the game right now were reported on PTS as far as I know, but not to such extend when everyone is a subject to it now obviously as some testers having pretty good resolutions, don't use certain libs, etc.

Most of the font issues i've seen are custom addon fonts, chat is a little wonky atm though, too compressed, especially if you have ui at a reduced scale.

I went through and repointed a bunch of fonts to the new slug fonts in EsoUI/Common/Fonts and just swapped anything that was using custom true type fonts to point to default ones and it fixed most readability issues. It's just a shame one of my addons is no longer centering the new fonts vertically.

Overallt they seem to be ok aside from chat.

No offense taken. Totally get the question. For starters, we don't want anyone to go out and buy a new monitor. We asked the resolution question to narrow down if this was an issue across the board or just lower resolutions.

This was highlighted in PTS, but the thing is, sometimes we will never know the extent of an issue until it's on live and we have a larger pool of players encountering something that either isn't working or they do not like. But we now know this is an issue, so we have teams looking into this for a resolution for those impacted.

I agree the new font is pixellated, and not as clear/harder to read. But I have a "good" monitor! I'm using an ultra widescreen 3440x1440. I'm using 125% scale in Windows but not a custom scale in-game.

To me, it's most apparent in smaller text like this:

The font is really so much more hard to read. And I'm perfectly sighted... I can't imagine how it is for visually impaired people, so this is also a thing of accessability here. Glad you guys are already working on it!

To me, it's not only more pixelated, the drop shadow is also toned down by quite a bit so there is no real black outline/border that makes lighter colored text visible on a light surface like it has been before. I was searching for an option to change the drop shadow, but there is none implemented so far.

Also playing on a 1920x1080 monitor.

Here are my pictures - I tried to find the same spot for the background in Vivec, Vvardenfell.

I’ve been unable to find the words to describe it, but this is my issue exactly, it’s the back shadowing of the letters not being as dark that make a big difference for me, and also the letters seemed a bit more compressed together. When I get home, I’m trying the fix for the chat box suggested that will make things bigger, but while that may help the compressed letter issue, I’m not sure if it will help the shadow problem.
