Star-Made knight achievement is now impossible to complete

Oh wait they outright removed the scroll? Amazing. So we're two for two on events with a critical failure in it somewhere that has caused a feature to be removed or in this case, out right not work. The quality control is really showing to be lacking already, and we're in the second month of the year. Not looking good for the rest of it, I will say.

At this rate I'm going to need new trousers, just when I thought I couldn't keep my wallet further away from ZoS, it turns out I've ended up making a hole and now it's even further away

All they need to do it attach achieve for using scroll to finishing the starter quest for it.

And they’re going to have to figure out how to do that without resetting progress for everyone who has already earned the achievement.

Thanks for the heads up about this! We're going to look at how we can fix this so the achievement can be obtained again in a future Whitestrake's Mayhem event.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin

As some feedback I'm not sure how many players would agree but personally I dislike the new 'always applied' buff, I'd rather have the scroll version because it means that I can use the scroll on alts that I wouldn't normally get to play but its some incentive to play them for the couple hours after the event ends of boosted AP. (its not a huge timeframe but it feels like a good reward)

It also means that on XP events I can apply the xp boost to low level characters and then when I do have time time to level them I get to choose to have my rewards boosted. Its really nice for players with not so much time to get some benefit from the event when they do have the time to play.

In generally I'd really prefer both options

The gore basin is not the scroll and has never, ever granted the scroll achievement in the past. Remember, you got your first scroll by doing the intro quest, and the intro quest requires using the gore basin. So if the gore basin had granted the achievement, then you'd already have it before you got the scroll, which wouldn't make sense.

I have to say that them not realizing that the removal/deactivation of the scroll makes getting the achievement and accompanying reward impossible to obtain reminds me too much of the recent transmute stones debacle. Just like then, I ask again, is that there one person at ZOS that should have realized these things before they go live? Did they lose or lay off BOTH of their quality control staff members or something?

They already said they're fixing it. They aren't going to be able to do a fix until after the event. It has to go through Q&A and the console certification progress. The purpose of being loud has already been filled. The fix is incoming.

The problem is that past performance has frustrated many players, whatever is said now. It would take substantial indications that they listened to concerns to change that.

    I would NEVER want @ZOS_Kevin 's job!

That's true. But given the time table they have established, the next best step is to make sure they have put in the fix by the next MYM. So bring this topic back up around the time this hits because 1 year from now would definitely not be acceptable. Luckily, this event runs again in June/July.

It is, but letting some complaining go by is likely useful too. Remember how long it took to fix the guy stuck in the ceiling in the Clockwork area delve? That made completing the daily rough but took years to fix. Only a few may see this problem, but hopefully it gets prioritized.

As I noted above, some "negative thinking" looking at such changes would also have likely caught the problem ahead of time. Few development teams do that part well though.

This ^ It's concerning that they are making changes or adding things to events that come in conflict with existing aspects or lead to exploits (like the transmutes recently) and therefore impact event completion and enjoyment. Shouldn't they have thought about things like that more carefully and anticipate the issues--I think most people here are not so much worried about the few achievement points (though it's definitely a bummer) but that zos keeps doing blunders like this.

As I noted above, the negative thinking required is not a skill all have. I did and I have annoyed many devs finding bugs just before delivery because I focused on how to break things. Most do not have that mindset.

I don't understand why ZOS is so adamant on removing having to use these event specific mementos. I always liked having to eat the pie for Jester and the mead mug for New Life. I'm pretty sure you didn't have to use the whistle for last years witches festival either. I'm gonna assume that you won't have to eat the Jubilee Cake either this year to get the buff. I know it's a minor thing but it's a detail that makes the event feel more like a event and less like the standard game. Feels like in a year you won't have to select any buff snd it'll be automatic.

Removing them makes far more sense. I suppose you never forgot to use a Memento or had it run out without your noticing, but that is annoying!

They should instead have them give a unique visual buff (such as flames) during an event to make them worth using, but not game impacting.

Well, apparently for some oddball reason, they decided they didn't want us "saving up" the 100% 2 hour buffs on alts. I find that petty, if true, but otherwise why would they have done it?

It bodes ill ZOS is now 2-for-2 on events being messed up because they didn't QA them. Making people (possibly) wait a whole 'nother six months to get an achievement tied to a title, a furnishing AND a major adornment is pouring salt on the wound. I've also heard the console version of the achievement is still unobtainable. Okay.

I already got the achievement last year so I'm not bothered by that, I'm concerned this is the second time this has happened in such a short time. Undermines confidence I have for these devs, honestly.

It seems like the best path would be to remove the related achievement and grant the completion if the player has all of the others checked off.

Doing it thst way should allow to make the needed changes and grant the related achievement without having to wait till the next whitestrake event.

    Just a thought.

I suggest for the future, if you want to make sure things such as this work and are fixed before an event goes live, you participate in the relevant pts.

Which would have been in October.

Right now they are working on the jesters and anniversary events, and I assume that and Gold Road are where most of their QA staff are focused.

    <snipped removed quote>

    This is a terrible take.
    1) it is in no way the responsibility of the player base to ensure quality control of the product. We have 0 control over any changes, we have no control over release dates, and we aren't paid to test the product or find bugs. This is not our job.

    2) The number of times I have personally reported bugs/stupid stuff on pts only to see them go unacknowledged to live server is too dang high.

Something like that. I've seen people say that the next whitestrake's will be in around 5-6 months, but this is still very annoying as I already waited that long just to try and complete this one achievement ..

Rather then assume negative intentions, I choose to assume they did it to benefit us by removing the need to constantly activate a two hour buff, which people can forget to do. While some people say they enjoy having to monitor and renew a buff, I'm sure others, like me, don't enjoy it and prefer and appreciate the automatic passive buff.

Because keeping track of one universally applied buff (and it’s not even technically a buff now, we’ve been told) is easier for the servers than keeping track of however often a scroll gets activated per character? Each application of the scroll started a 2 hour timer. All of those individual timers will be gone.

And they also don’t have to deal with the “saving up” resulting in a situation where a double XP event buff extended Pelinal’s scroll outside of the Mayhem event rather than overwriting it with the proper buff. That was what used to happen.

It does kind of stink that these things aren't able to get fixed in a hotfix type of way to allow people to get a chance at getting these right away versus having to wait so long.

If they weren't able to swap in a graphics file with the correct information on the splash screen for the last event, then it's pretty much guaranteed that they won't be able to rework how an achievement functions before the end of the current event.

Hopefully it can be fixed before the second Whitestrake's Mayhem event in a few months. However, with Account Wide Achievements, once you've gotten the achievement once, it's pointless to try for it on your alts, as you can just select the title from a dropdown menu.... regardless of whether that character actually did it or not.

I don’t know that reading an old scroll would unlock this achievement. I suspected the new bonus was passive but when I did not get a new scroll, I tried to use the old one just in case. It seeemed to be completely inactive.

While I think ZOS could do some things better, a hotfix has big risks as well and is worth not doing except in rare cases. While this is annoying, you could finish all the other parts and automatically get credit when they fix this. I would assume you would even get credit before the next event, unless using the scroll is a requirement to meet other goals.

It is not worth a hot fix, IMHO, for this now.
