Like others have pointed out, I don't think you should see this set as a counter to Oakensoul users specifically. People who run two bars also have a lot of major/minor buffs, what Oakensoul does is remove the need to keep them up yourself.

What it could be is a counter to never ending fights against tank trolls and organized groups, and I'm all for it.

I will admit, I use Oakensoul... but, I am also old enough to have been an adult when Arena was released... and have been an Elder Scrolls fan, since then.

However, I am not worried -- it's a light set, they don't get used as much - and if I get hit by someone with it... oh well.
I have arthritis in my hands, and can no longer beat keys like an amphetamine soaked circus monkey ...... so I deal with what I can.

Thing is, this will work on any person who is benefiting from group buffs, as well... and with the ease of hitting penetration cap, etc.... a person would have to build low pen elsewhere, to benefit from this... being now vulnerable in the tank meta... or waste a lot of it, meaning, that in most play, it's about as powerful as The Witch-Knight's Defiance from The Reach... which has the advantage of being a medium set. Especially if you pair that with some of the poison arrow bow skills.

If it does become prevalent, I can easily switch off to NB builds with bows, poison, and proc sets --- double down into poisons, and never let you get close enough to matter. I have access to escapist and brutality draining poisons... as does everyone else.... those are great, too.

Not even remotely. They serve two completely different functions.

Oakensoul allows for players who have low ping/arthritis/slow reflexes (due to age) to still be SOMEWHAT competitive. This set nullifies the oakensoul player in the PVP setting.

    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Just the naming of the set is an implication of what the designers were targeting when they designed it. It’s another anti-1 bar build nerf, this time just for PvP.

So, if zos wants to discourage players from PvP, then fine. But it just seems weird zos keeps saying they want more players involved in end game activities, and then take actions that actively discourage players from participating in those activities.

This doesn't nullify Oakensoul though. The set is just as effective on non-oaken users. Oakensoul's 5 major and 10 minor isn't any more buffs than an average 2-bar PvPer - especially if that player is in a group.

My SOLO 2 bar build has 8 Major buffs and 7 (sometimes 8) minor buffs. Those numbers only go up in a group.

In fact, the set is most effective against 2-bar coordinated group compositions.

Consider how many players have nearly every major and minor on them at any given time. Not just oaken soul users, standard 2 bar builds. We keep our buffs up all the time too, we just push buttons for them.

This set is awesome, one of the greatest ideas for a set they've had in a long time. In any PVP environment you can count on any player that would give you trouble having their buffs up, then in a fight with supports it gets even more value.

The game needs more of this. It's like a combination of what made nocturnals ploy and shell splitter good ideas, but it's actually a 100% good idea. Huge potential as a front bar set for stat builds, or on the body set for proc builds.

Looks like Zerg/ball builds are back in this year. Despite the need for abilities to stop stacking (same name buffs/debuffs don't stack, so why should abilities?).

Edit: I'm keeping my Oakensoul and I rarely ever play PvP anyway. *shrug*

    the set
    Light Armor – Oakfather’s Retribution
2 – Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
3 – Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
4 – Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
5 – Gain 449 Offensive Penetration against enemies for each Major Buff they have active. Gain 20 Weapon and Spell Damage against enemies for each Minor Buff they have active.

against Oakensoul that would be 449 times 5 so 2245 extra Penetration.
and 10 minor buffs so 200 extra Weapon and Spell Damage which makes the total weapon and spell Damage of the set 587.
definitely not great for us Oakensoul users.

Heh, nice. Finally people have a counter to the Heavy Attack Pet Sorc melters.

Really though, you won't find many people giving up part if their builds for this. Oakensoul Heavies are annoying, but not common in PvP. That is unless they find a new META that goes well with this, then at that point almost everyone will wear it and everyone, not just Oakensouls will suffer.

This has widespread impact beyond Oakensoul, which honestly isn’t even used much in pvp.

Looking at my Templar for example, standing completely naked and unarmed I have the following permanent buffs from class, race, and skill line passives:

    - Minor Intellect
    - Minor Fortitude
    - Minor Endurance
    - Major Gallop

So +449 pen and +60 dmg against me for simple existing. Casting my Focus adds 2 majors and a minor. In fact, casting any class skills at all adds to the list. This is a scenario that plays out against every class, some far more than others.

I wish there was more pvp participation on PTS because I’m interested in seeing how this set plays out. In particular I think this might be great for bombing.

Not sure what the fuss is all about.

Titanborn Strength Set has been around for years and is way more powerful especially if synergising with some Vampire skills, notably Simmering Frenzy!

(2 items) Adds 1487 Offensive Penetration
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Stamina
(5 items) Adds 110 Weapon and Spell Damage and 1240 Offensive Penetration.
This bonus doubles to 220 Weapon and Spell Damage and 2480 Offensive Penetration when you are under 75% Health.
This bonus quadruples to 440 Weapon and Spell Damage and 4960 Offensive Penetration when you are under 50% Health.

Vampire Skill - Simmering Frenzy: Go into a blood frenzy, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 80 every 2 seconds, up to 5 times. While toggled on, the Health cost of this ability increases by 360 per stack.

Takes a bit of practice and skill to manage the health deficiency and timing, so def not for 'casuals', but when mastered you melt people, Oakensoul or not!

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.
