In gift exchange thread there are players asking for a lot more than this "scammer". How do we call them?
Not going to lie, 1kk gold wont hurt as much as gifting an entire Item from crown store.
Im not going to talk if he is a scammer or not. It just wierd to me that there is so many worse "scams" close by and nobody talks about them. But someone asked the same thing on the zone chat and he is big bad guy.
They imply, in some of their long whiny posts, that they’ve been working so long and hard for such-and-such item and this is just the last bit they need, when really they’ve been doing this for a long time now. Multiple zones, every day. Perhaps “scam” is not exactly right but it’s generally deplorable behavior.
How can you compare the gifting thread??? People are invited to post their wishes there. Now if someone were to constantly make new posts, asking for the “one” thing they so desperately need, that would be approaching the same thing. I haven’t seen that and indeed, it would not be so easy to do as old posts don’t just disappear, etc.
As i said, i dont want to talk about if this one is a scam or not but how diffrent ppl treat the same thing on zone chat and on forums.
Person on Zone chat asks for 1kk gold. If i want i can make 5kk gold in one day so its rly not much for me. I know that for some 1kk is a lot but there is many players who wont have a problem with gifting such amount.
Now, another person ask for stuff worth over 20k CROWNS on forums and nobody talks about it. Does the thread name "Gift Exchange" rly justify such requests? The fact that ppl are "invited"? That amount of money would put food on my table for entire month.
Ppl dont have to make multiple post because 1 is enough as everyone cas see it. In game zone chat doesnt work like that. U write it once and barerly anyone will see it.
I dont know what more i can say. its just doesnt look normal for me. Tho im pretty sure it would be better to spend that amount of money on your mother, father and rest of the family, or even your friends who stick with you for years. Not a random person on game forums.
Anyway i think thats it for me. I just wanted to say that as i just couldnt stay silent about it. If u think its okay, all power to you.
Surely i struggle to find money for eso+ and the justification for such an extravagance. I'm also no fan of christmas. I hear you.
But if people can afford it, and it brings them joy to give, why to give to those who appreciate it as well? If that’s not your thing, totally fine!
For me, Christmas was fun as a child but I’m really not into it now, kind of neutral about it overall to be honest. But I participate in the thread because it is one way that I do feel something of the holiday spirit. There are no obligations or expectations to disappoint. I enjoy finding a request that I can fulfill, and if I can have some creativity in doing so, all the more so.
I think it’s not about the amount, but the intention.
I'm rather in the same boat - I've never been religious and Christmas in my house these days is for husband - who is entirely traditiional as he approaches the end of his life (no, not immanent, but hell - he'll be 90 next year and has various health issues).
I'm far more into the Wiccan year - wheel; Yule/Midwinter/Solstice suits me better than Christmas.

If someone irl went somewhere (either in the real world, or online) and begged for money because they were in such "dire need", and then when they got the money, went to another place, and begged there because of their "dire need" it would be called a scam.
But so far, the best thing others can do is see through these peoples' bs.
Also while I'm fine with homeless people asking for some money for something to eat, I loathe the people who try to tug at your heartstrings by telling you some bs story, and imo, saying that you need something in several zones, and getting money from those zones, and going on with the begging, while not exactly the same, is to me similar to the people who stand on the streets with a "Please donate to save this random kid's, whose picture we found on Shutterstock, life."

Again, I know we can just ignore him, but this kind of begging is seriously beyond anything I've ever seen in game and I've been playing since launch. This guy has now upped his begging to 3 million.
It's obvious at this point he's not only a liar, but it seems like he's a troll too because when he spams zone chat, it causes arguments so even if I put him on ignore, I still have to see the consequences of his scummy spamming.
I'm not turning off my zone chat because of trolls and I shouldn't have to because it's there for us players to communicate with each other, not to be abused.
I agree with the OP. I don't want this extreme begging and spamming to become the norm in ESO.
It is really out of control.

What is ZoS's stance on this kind of thing? Is it a violation of the ToS?

I mean at what point does asking for literally anything becoming "begging" in your eyes?
I really hope nothing is ever done about this, that would be a huge overreach on ZOS' part.

There's a pretty big difference between a charity scam and a legit charity. I think ZOS can tell the difference between the two and punish appropriately only the former. Scamming and spam are already against the TOS, so it wouldn't be an overreach at all.

Obviously zos itself uses a different interpretation of their own ToS, as nothing happened regardless of all the reports some protectionists handed in.

You don't actually know that. I've seen people banned for less, so I wouldn't be surprised if this person finds themselves with a social ban eventually too. This is the type of situation that would take multiple reports because begging in and of itself is not automatically against the TOS.
The complaints are not baseless. Using deceit to trick people into parting with money they would not otherwise part with is pretty straightforward.
