Endless Archive Leaderboard Payouts: Require Severing the Thread?

This evening I signed in on one of my characters and got the delightful chime of payouts, however after completing Duos on all of my characters (all 19 of them 💀(my partner and I are obsessed)), the only ones that got payouts were the ones that we severed the Thread using the mechanism or we simply ran out of threads through death. The characters that we beat Tho'at on, and ran maybe another stage or two and then just teleported away or logged out, didn't get any payouts.
We never went back to check the Leaderboards, and the Leaderboards' accuracy in ESO has always been sort of dubious at best, but do you have to sever your Threads (manually or violently) to lock in your score? Is logging out for the day (i.e. Daily Rollover happens) not enough?
What happens if you're not Group Leader and your leader kicks you? Does your score not lock, or does the group disbanding in that way end up locking in the score?

✭✭✭✭✭A score is recorded only when all threads are cut, either by wiping or by using the thread weaver.

Consider this following scenario: You're in a group and the leader accidentally kicks you. If at that point it generates a score and leaderboard position for you, then all that will need to be rolled back and retracted when they invite you back, and there's no mechanism in the leaderboard system to take back a score.
The same problem exists if you port out or log out. If you port out, it can't finalize the score because you could still port back in (as long as you do so before the instance times out, which takes 5 minutes), so if it finalizes the score and registers that on the leaderboard, it'll have to undo it if you go back in before the instance times out.
So yes, if you want a leaderboard position, e.g., for the weekly mail, you must sever any remaining threads.Nightfighters ― PC/NA and PC/EU

Nebs✭✭✭✭Perhaps it's my own fault for having tutorials turned off, but it'd be nice if they put notices like that in the game itself. Ant sort of line of dialogue from our friendly librarian of "be sure to server your threads before leaving so we can track your progress through the archive" or something like that.

EA instances behave differently and are not reset by the group disbanding. No, because the weekly board is not the only board that exists; there is the non-weekly board.
The non-weekly board doesn't matter after the daily set anyway, because you can't return to an "in-progress" Endless Archive run. Basically, in any instance where you can't return to your progress (ie. leaving the Archive or being logged out during the rollover or whenever they toss scores) your score should be recorded rather than discarded.
