When I logged in this morning I had the following in my chat box with an https link that looked suspicious to me based on the https address. Anyone else seeing this?23n5lzd4z0en.png or have any info about it?

Always good to be on the look but you don't need to worry about that at all. Description from the side mentioned in the link, i just copy-pasted it:

    New Guild History and LibHistoire
Three years ago due to the popularity of Master Merchant and other addons that relied on the Guild History API, the game servers were struggling to keep up with the demand, threatening the stability of the whole game.

ZOS swiftly took measures to reduce the load by limiting the speed with which data can be requested and even considered completely locking down the API for addons at one point.

In order to prevent that from happening, I wrote LibHistoire as a way to cache the history data locally and make it available to addons without having to query the server for every request.

And while it did improve the situation, it still would not be able to help with requests made via the vanilla UI or with addons that did not switch to the library.

Fast forward to today and we are finally getting a new and more efficient guild history with Update 41.

The new system will allow to load data much faster (500 entries at a time compared to 100 before) and going back for a longer period of time (at least 30 days). In addition, it will also enable addons to request data for specific time ranges without having to load all the history up to that point.

And as if that is not already enough, it will offer a shared cache for the vanilla UI and addons alike, so that data can be accessed without having to query the server again.

As you can see, the new system will make LibHistoire’s caching feature obsolete and as such I will be removing all the caching functionality from the library starting with the next update.

In order to improve loading times, I also decided it will be best to completely delete already stored data, so if you want to retain any of it for future use, please make sure to export all the information you want to keep before the update arrives early next year.

Now you may be wondering what will LibHistoire be used for in the future?

The answer is that it will continue to act as a wrapper around the new system and ensure that addons relying on the library will be compatible with the new system without any changes on their part.

In addition it will also add more fine-grained control over the new cache than what the game itself will provide, as well as visualise the state of it by adapting the already available UI.
I'm but a sarcastic beef jerky. Irony and cynicism are my parents. You've been warned.

Explanation A heads-up regarding that warning is documented in the Change Log for the add-on.
It's always a good idea to read that when an update is presented.

Sorry to derail the thread, but where do you get information on upcoming patches? Such as the stuff about the guild histories in update 41?

Be a very active developer of several wildly popular addons and libraries and build a good connection to the developers who are responsible for the addon API, and said developers might drop some information concerning upcoming changes that will dramatically affect your libraries and addon functionality.
      I guess.

There are venues (the ESOUI forums plus a chat channel that anyone is free to join) where a number of addon devs hang out, along with devs from ZOS who liaison with the addon dev community. Information about upcoming changes that will affect addons are generally communicated there, rather than through traditional channels such as the official forum, since that information is usually irrelevant for the general population.

Thanks to the both of you. I sort of thought that might be the case, but just wasn't sure.

Sadly some anti-virus programs report my website as malware for no reason. You can check on virus total if you are worried.
I have not found out why and there also doesn't seem to be a way to report it to them without buying their software, so maybe you can check if there is a way to report it as a false positive?

Try googling [antivirusname] false positive, that usually gives leads how to report false positives for [antivirusname]. Developers of any security software worth using will try hard to get rid of false positives. They are expected to have a way for people whose product or webpage is flagged malicious to report false positive. Sometimes it is and sometimes it is not.

You may change the wording on your warning message. Telling people that a way better ingame option will become available and thus the lib will no longer be needed is way less scary than saying that something will get deleted and that they need to check an unknown website for further information.

In this day and age, we are trained not to click unknown links. The domain sir.insidi.at looks sketchy and there's a "Click here" right after the url. The natural reaction is someone hacked the addon repository and deployed a version with a malicious link. Instead, you should link to a thread on esoui.com explaining the LibHistoire change.
