So, anyone know what ZOS is investigating that required them to shut down trading on PC?

Indeed there is. I'm not sure why it's not posted here as well.

The quote in the thread on the Patch Notes form reads as follows:
We have temporarily turned off player trading on the PC NA and PC EU servers while we investigate an issue. Attempting to trade while player trading is off will result in an a "Trade failed" error message. This is expected.

We will provide an update sometime tomorrow (Nov. 2). Thank you all for your patience.

I'm pretty sure I know, because I'm pretty sure it's related to a bug I've reported. But I'm not going to say anything about it before they do, so this is really just me flexing about being in the know for once. :D

Of course we'll see how smug I am if I get caught up in any preemptive ban waves, but hopefully it's not serious enough to come to that. (I wouldn't advise anyone else to panic, at least.)

The fact that they're already planning to make a statement about it tomorrow is encouraging. Hopefully that means they've worked out what the bug is and how to fix it.

I just googled about this after being confused why I couldn't trade a trial drop to someone who needed it.

I think for something as big as disabling trading, maybe a popup message upon logging in/on the login screen would be helpful.

There really needs to be a method of communicating important information to players somewhere within in the game. Very few players are active on the forums.

Assume this giving other players stuff like drop from an dungeon or just stuff from the event.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Event drops you can send in the mail, but for group-bound items like dungeon and trial gear we’re SOL until it’s fixed. :(

Good point about mailing, that tend to be easier anyway, but not fun if doing dungeons or trials.

Trading not working on PC N/A for me or my buddy either, sounds like a system glitch. Farmed a dungeon for 2 hours for a resto staff and it finally dropped, and now can't trade with less than an hour left.

It's not a glitch. It was intentional.

Better both log off until ZOS reenables trading (assuming it they will do so soon) or it will become bound. :( I agree there should have been a notification in game for exactly such situation as you describe! It’s no good if you find out about it only after the fact!

Dungeon BoP items automatically bind after 2 hours, regardless of whether you're logged on or not. So unless they re-enable player trading within 2 hours of drop, there is nothing you can do to prevent it being bound.

I've only seen trading disabled for 2 reasons in MMOs.

    1. Item dupe bug.
    2. Item deletion bug.

    I'm assuming it's the former.

Agreed. Diablo IV seems pretty good about this. The main log in screen has a little banner in the upper right to alert when next maintenance is and if something in-game is having issues. They, too, have had to disable trading and fix some exploits. Each time, you saw a banner saying trading was disabled, then once fixed, a banner saying trading had been re-enabled. Short, sweet, and to the point.

There might be a third option here. The new EA sets were not tradable even with your groupmate on PTS, and they are for some reason tradable with groupmates now. Since they do sometimes miss patch notes, it's impossible for us to know without further comment whether this change to the new sets was intended or not. It's also not at all necessarily the case that this is the reason player trading was disabled, but perhaps they want to pause things while they see what else might be tradable that shouldn't be.

I'm assuming we aren't going to get told. That they disabled it midafternoon on a Wednesday and didn't tell us why makes me think it's an exploitable glitch

But things like this belong into an ingame announcement that you can't miss. Information like this shoud always assume that players use no outside sources of information.

I had a player in one of my guilds asking why they suddenly had so many jewelry platings in their bag.

Hi All, just wanted to follow up here. We just provided an update regarding trading. You can find that here.

Regarding some of the feedback regarding messaging in-game about trading being disabled, we have passed that feedback along. While the priority was to get the issue identified and resolved as soon as possible, we've made note of in-game notification in the future.

    Thank you for the correction!

That really sucks to not know beforehand when trying to help someone farm for gear! Who thinks to check first whether trading or any other standard spect of gameplay happens to be disabled???

And because of this some people might have to delete their characters because that character has a set piece on their person they intended on selling and now they cannot get rid of it without it being bound which would ruin their ability to sell said item due to losing the 100% drop guarantee.

Using curation for mutual benefit. For some, time is gold. I have never bought nor sold a drop myself, only forgone binding an item I didn’t have for a guildie who needed it more, but I see nothing wrong with doing so.
