Non-Combat Pets as Companions

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it frustrating that my seemingly fearsome pet stands around doing nothing while I'm fighting the forces of...whatever it is I'm fighting at the time. Given that just about anything can happen in TES, I feel like it should be possible to convert non-combat pets into a custom companion. Essentially acting as a skin, the pet would still be bound within a system that limits them to a certain set of skills just like any other companion, but they could still be suited to a certain archetype, like flying, fighting, magic, etc.

To be clear. I don't want each pet to have its own individual stats and abilities. They're simply a skin for a Companion moveset archetype, and they would use the companion slot. Whether or not they use Companion armor is up to ZOS, but even if they don't I feel like they could be balanced in ways that eliminate the need.

I won't use pets that look like they should fight but won't (big cats, wolves, etc) since that seems silly. I'd be fine if the pets that seem like they should help fight jumped into the fray doing and taking exactly zero damage - at least, for roleplay purposes, you could say they are trying to defend you. In the meantime, I'll continue to use my nixad who simply does aerial cartwheels and laughs as I fight. :)

I find that I end up doing the same thing for the same reason, which is why I felt the need to post this. I feel like there's a use for these pets beyond just sitting there and looking neat, and giving them a purpose gives players something to work for and care about.

Or at least interesting interactions with the world, like WoW. Rabbit pets made babies with other peoples' rabbits, there was a slime pet that ate critters and grew larger, and I forget the other interactions but it made them amusing.

I still want to see a Battleground-type mode where we use our choice of pet. We won't see it but I want to see it lol.

No doubt, that would be great. Anything that gives non-combat pets a little more value than simply "this is the thing that follows me around" would be nice.

I don't hold out a lot of hope for this feature, but I agree. I really would enjoy having my wolf or dog or other pet be in battle and adventure with me as opposed to it always being another person commenting on things.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

Yeah, I don't ever expect anything I want to happen in ESO to actually happen, but I think it would be really nice and I wanted to put the idea out there.

Any kind of change to pets to flesh them out would be welcome. Being able to pet them or have the small flying ones land on you as an idle animation while you're just chilling around, anything beyond them just standing there like they don't really care to know you but are hoping you have scraps of food lying around.

It'd be nice too if pets interacted with the player. I'd love to play fetch with my mudcrab, high five my scamp or have my voriplasm hop on me. I'm less enthusiastic about my haj mota trying to eat my face, though.

Yeah, I was thinking this as my solitude wolf stands around looking happy that I am getting beat up.

It would be nice if the pets could at least *look* like they were fighting (or cowering if they aren't a combat looking pet). Jumping and biting and snarling.

They don't have to do actual damage or take damage, but just do anything but stand around.

My brother and I have been asking for non-combat pets to at least *look* like they were participating in keeping us alive in a fight rather than the normal chasing butterflies or rolling around in the dirt pet behavior. Clearly they couldn't/wouldn't do actual damage, but *appearing to* take an interest would be welcome.

Since we already have companions that fight and can be equipped with armor and weapons:
I'd like to be able to equip my Twilights with some form of light or medium armor and maybe a dagger or two.
Mostly the armor tho, to customize the look, but mostly to cover up that heinous skin condition she has.

On a similar note, it's getting old seeing 14 identically dressed bankers or traders at crafting areas or after dolmen. It'd be nice to be able to dye their clothes to personalize them.

    edit: speeling errer.

The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

i would love to have skins that we can put on our combat pets to make them look different (even just things like color/pattern changes! though being able to make my clannfear look like a unicorn would be a dream come true :P)

I would also like to have my companions be able to wear things like the adornments and body paints.
