I wonder, have you attempted things like vet Blackrose Prison (arena 1 to completion), vet Hel Ra first trash fight, or the final boss in vet Cauldron on hard mode (my group died, I completed it on a Brawler build).

vBRP is fun. Idk how to beat it without pearlescent though, especially that swarm mechanic. The first boss in hel ra is soloable on normal, so I bet he is on vet since it's really old content (at least you can abuse him). I did cauldron hm, probably one of the hardest things I ever did in this game. You need to dodge so much, always move, deal with the adds. It was fun though.

In the hardest stuff I have attempted to solo, with Brawler, it has at least felt like sustain allowed me to better progress the fight compared to dark dealing (or heavy attacking) more.

Being a redguard/imperial helps so much with that. I remember I just used brawler as a spammable always, even in groups (still managed to deal decent dps). Eventually I moved on to using a spammable, SA does so much for me: penetration, resistances.

On vet or on normal? With other group members or without? That's interesting considering the rotating flame wall. I have also found exceptions where companions are genuinely useful. An example of this is Fang Lair, where you are using Precognition to get around a mechanic. A companion tank holding aggro in the following fight gets you around a nasty stun / execute combo from Sabina / Ulfnor that can happen on top of the chain mechanic otherwise. I've just found such examples exceedingly rare and wouldn't expect them in content designed for solo play

Vet, just me. The flame wall never damaged my companion and adds didn't target them. Still I never count on my companion, it's either a sacrifice or a small bonus to healing. I didn't know about them actually tanking though in some encounters, might try it one day.

Maybe this should be a broader discussion: Why do Pets and Companions even take damage / die in Solo/Arena/Overworld/EA?

They (pets) are invincible in PvE Group content, why are they not invincible in solo/arena/overworld content?

    No good reason, IMO.

I realize companion tanks have taunt and that could lead to godtank situations, but.... name me one situation where that even matters or adversely effects the game. Instead of trying to code them to ignore various mechanics that their AI is insufficient for, just make them invulnerable and call it a day...

Companions are so useless id argue they don't even give you any advantage majority of the time XD

Anyone who says companions are useless clearly doesn't know how to utilize them properly. Proper gear, leveling, skills and role go a long way to making them successful. Expecting them to be comparable to another player while devoting no effort into them or their builds = "useless".

Does not matter how well you set one up and gear it out take it into any meaningful content and it will die reguardless all they can do is help players clear content you can essentially do half asleep

they can actually do a lot, just not anything with "fancy" mechanics such as big area aoes that you have to stand in a spot to avoid (castle thorn/black drake villa), or mechanics you need to block through (like the conal attacks from enemies in scriveners hall/bal sunnar)

anything without complicated mechanics they can do proficiently if set up correctly

Yeah so anything that requires you tobe aware they just stand around and die pretty much what I said I guarantee you soon as you pass arc 2 they will spend majority of rooms dead especially when marauders appear

Your "build" means nothing when they to a mechanic / AoE when you have purple gear and skills built around surviving even with that one set that halves their cooldowns.

They have actual design issues than just "build issue"

And don't get me started on mechanics they don't interrupt when they have capacity to do so.

I'd like to see companions have either immunity or a large damage reduction from telegraphed attacks. They're fine in power as is currently, but any time a mob introduces a red circle they'll just stand in there. Which leads to death.

The fact that they don't gain in power from verses & visions also severely hampers them, but I get the impression that the dev's intention is not exactly making companions viable or comparable to another player (which is fine, tbh).
I'd be satisfied if they just stop dying invariably from standing in stupid. Otherwise, I fail to see the point in bringing them along.

Yeah, don't even get me started on Ember vrs a Sun-eater negate. Stand there and light attack until she dies...
