Is this game going to be some flashy korean/chinese mmo?

First of all let me say that I have nothing agains korean/chinese mmo or people that likes them, they are just not my thing.

In the recent past we have seen a steady increase in flashy assets in the game, radiat apex mount with bright colors are eveywhere, new class that seem a mix between Green Lantern a Borg and a fluorescent light. Now we also have weapon permaglow caused by a skill used by every NB in the game.

i liked ESO art because was more "realistic" but now seems to play in Las vegas during the night.

I really would like to know if this is the path the game is following beacuase in that case I'm outta here.

It has been an slow process over many years, I think it has become worse as more an more people get flashy mounts over time.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Because people like glowing and farting stuff, and it sells. Almost every game I have played that had a restrained art style, had become a disco party over time.

I really hope it will not get too Lost-Ark-y with everything, but when you look at the wishlist-discussions sometimes:

"OMG yes, more glitter! Flashy colours. GLITTER CAPES! Wings! More glitter-flash-wing-capes! UNICORNS!"-people vs the "One.brown.horse.mount.ONLY!"-people.

I kinda like where it is right now. I love me a bit of magicky-kitsch with some of the mounts, weapons and recall-animations, without crossing over into "anime" levels of...flashiness^^

I'd like to think that things won't get any worse but that would require me having some trust in the developers.

Fortunately, the gameplay won't become a korean type.

Visuals are slowly moving that way, because it sells.
The sad moment is it sells because people buy.
The funny moment that devs try to sell more while doing less. So new mounts and pets are usually "We added some glowing, so please buy this retextured old tired animal"

The Elder Scrolls franchise in general is "realistic" with a side of magic. ESO started this way, but went to the 'dark side' quite a while back. I prefer the visuals and ambiance of the other Elder Scrolls games. They seem more grounded in Lore than what ZOS is doing with ESO, which seems more grounded in monetization.

Cool effects will always attract people. I’m in the same boat where I like to have low fantasy in ESO - knights of the circle all around as an outfit with a basic horse. Good for me. BUT - it’s an MMO, one with AN EXCESSIVE amount of micro transactions. To think that there’s not gunna be flashy armor, flashy weapons or flashy mounts in modern day gaming is silly. Not what most want but there’s a few people in this game spending so much money on crates to get that insane mount that sounds like a nuclear bomb dropping when you summon it - it’s never gunna change. Hard to find an MMO without that stuff

This happens with every long-lasting game that has cosmetics.

Team Fortress 2 went from a somewhat cartoony/silly class based shooter to a downright comical game where you can conga dance on enemy corpses, drive around in a tractor, or pretend to be Solid Snake "sneaking" around in a cardboard box, all while wearing 6 kittens on your character model that add discoball lights over your head.

Cosmetics make devs money - they take relatively little development time and have great profit margins. ESO is not going to become the next BDO or anything. Cosmetics have gotten more flashy but where we are now is likely near the limit of what ESO's version of the Hero Engine can even handle.

Unfortunetly, we can pretty much say for certain that ZOS would never add an option to hide all the garish cosmetics.

Other people wearing paid cosmetics works as free walking advertisement, and the only thing better than a free walking advertisement is a free walking advertisement with flashing lights that you can't miss.

In that case ZOS can make the default status to be "On" for all of the flashies so only those who hate them will turn them off. Seems like a win-win to me.

I can’t foresee ZOS going full “let’s make skateboards and mascot costumes and maid dresses” but I’m sure they’ll get as close as they can within lore. Though the lore text to justify the mounts is strange at times.

It would be nice but I wouldn't hold my breath.

ZOS are very keen to get people to use the crown store and they won't be letting anyone opt out of anything that has the potential to do that.

When I think of some of ESO's longstanding examples of intrusive visual assault such as duals near wayshrines and twilight matriarchs in urban centers, those things pale in comparison to the more recent advent of exploding neon mounts that way eclipse even the arcanist's silly and obtrusive neon skills.

I really hope ZoS abandons their somewhat recent interest in neon and exploding silly cartoon effects.

I agree that the game is heading in a very different direction to how it started, both visually and in terms of trivialisation generally. It's not something I like, and currently I'm trying to develop my arcanists without using the flashier skills as I find them very off-putting. They don't make me ill, I just think they're wrong for the game. Fortunately, the mass of arcanists that were everywhere when they launched seem to have disappeared and I hardly ever see one now, so maybe I'm not alone in thinking this way.

This is why I haven't purchased a new mount in over 4 years. They all have some huge explosion or a bunch of weird glowing effects that I don't care for. It might sound over the top, but I don't want someone half a map away from me in cyrodiil being able to see me riding or mounting up.

The flashiest mount I have came out of the free crates last month - Flame Atronach Wolf. The flashiest mount I USE is the Evergloam Indrik (yes, I bought it for both of my accounts at the time, on both PC megaservers, and if it shows up again I will buy it for my newest account, both servers).

I might use the Wolf - but I don't know what outfit I could pair with it....

I'm not a fan of the visuals we've been having over the last year or so... like the green mounts that have the portal thingy, the blinding new recall animation, most of the arcanist skills... Besides finding them really tiresome for the eyes, they also feel out of place in the aesthetic of the game. Not sure if there's been a change in the design department, but some of the visual effects have been steadily going towards 'mobile game' category, especially when it comes to the arcanist class.

Oh, I knew about that and was thinking about it when I wrote my message. That's why I said "I'm sure they'll get as close as they can". It's no modern mascot suit, but it's along the same line in a lore-friendly way.

And it's really not "flashy" - sure, some people might dye it "flashy" but really.... it's just a silly looking costume.

It's not at all like that blackhole welwa mount.

Um. Well. Certainly it's progressing in that direction. I tend to the belief that "what it looks like is what it is". And right now, it's looking like heading in the wrong direction (for me, and many others).

I believe it's a general tendency in all MMORPGs since some years.

In GW2, it's by now terrible: there is all what flashes, but most of all, the terrible twirling and twister effects (typically, nearly all of the new bosses have effects that make our chars move in circle around them while fighting) and brutal or slow but continuous pulling effects, and so on... Many of those cause motion sickness and it's worsening with each new add to the game.

Fortunately, ESO is for now far behind in this domain, but well, it seems that here too, the tendency starts. :/
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA
