Changes to make changes? They had to fill out 45 pages somehow to make the "QOL Patch" look like there was actually something done lol.

To be perfectly honest, this looks like it was implemented in the absolute laziest way possible. Rather than going through to quality-test and adjust animation timing on a per-animation basis they simply added a gate that prevented animations from progressing to the sprinting stage when sprinting speeds were reached. In the process they broke the indexing of animation speeds to character speed in such a way that it caused all the sliding and, frankly, bad interactions (like werewolf gigachad walking around)

ive got 180% speed bonus on foot on the live server and ive never noticed anything incorrect about my sprint animation or those of the other players around me. if there is an error its either really rare or really subtle. if there is a common error that ive just never noticed in my years of playing then hopefully they find a less atrocious way to fix it

This is a terrible change! I like the sprinting animation included when you reach a speed threshhold because the character leans forward somewhat when running which makes the run animation less terrible on male characters. Now male characters will always look terrible when running! And I love werewolf running on all fours! Why change this at all? Keep the sprinting animations, they look better than default running and don't need to be deleted! I don't want to have to hold down the shift key to not look terrible when running!

Live is not incorrect and there are no bugs with movement animations. It is the way it has always worked.

ZOS arbitrarily decided, now, it the way it always worked was incorrect and has borked up the animations.

Yes. On the live server, having higher than base movement speed causes your character to play sprinting animations without actually sprinting. Which looks awful, clunky, and unimmersive.

And now in the PTS... it's the opposite. Which also looks bad.

I guess they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. They both suck, so I guess it's a matter of which looks worse. In my opinion, PTS looks worse. I'd rather have what we currently have in live.

Well the sprinting animations only play when you're at or near sprinting speeds (140% normal movement speed). If you're just at 110%-130% (the running movement speeds that can be accomplished with just CP), it only uses the high speed running animations, not the sprinting ones. Further would anyone want a sprinting animation if they're using sprint but slowed beyond the 140% threshold via a snare?

As it is on live, it just makes visual sense to use a sprinting animation when moving at sprinting speeds regardless of whether I'm pressing the button to sprint or not. If the animations need updating to not look clunky or unimmersive then they should be updated, but the sprint animation shouldn't be gated behind activating the sprint button else you get ridiculous results like I showcased on the werewolf.

You are moving at max speed on live, why is using sprinting animations without sprinting "clunky". I've been sprinting for 8 years, and not noticed the sprint animation being "clunky". Since it has been possible, I've also had a build reaching speed cap just using % movement speed bonuses and no sprinting. I've never actually noticed it at all until ZOS messed with it.

Max speed is max speed whether you reach the cap from all speed bonuses or speed bonuses + sprinting.

To be honest, I do prefer the live version of just using the sprint animation above a certain speed threshold.

While I could get used to it, characters so end up looking a little 'floatier' than they do on live. I don't know if the reason for this change is that people were complaining about no being able to see the normal run animations when they had speed boosts on, but I honestly think the better solution there is for players who want to see those animations to... just remove their speed boosts to see the proper run animations.

But especially for werewolves. I feel like I could get used to the weird floatiness for other characters, but the speed-boosted Werewolf using the standard run animation just looks incredibly bizarre. Having them use the sprint animation when boosted above the threshold looked much better.

The issue isn't really the change of animations at certain thresholds vs certain speeds but simply that the animations being played aren't played at the correct speed.

It honestly really looks like someone's first time doing this sort of thing. You see all the time. Inexperienced artists and tech artists or programmers that are working solo and dont know about art make this sort of mistake all the time. The animations are simply too slow in most cases and the distance traveled by each foot doesn't sync with the distance traveled by the character as a whole.

I would argue that regardless of the speed the animation is played at, the werewolf animations look downright ridiculous. That said, it does seem like it was a bit of a hack job which isn't uncommon with people doing something without much experience or trying to do the bare minimum.

I know the "I'm quitting the game" line is thrown around a lot here without any real intent to actually do so but I really do think that I'll have to put this game away until the werewolf animations are fixed or reverted (assuming it makes it to live). I am one of those players that has to look good in a game to feel good about playing the game, and right now I feel like the incoming patch is going to result in my chosen playstyle looking horrendously stupid.

My werewolf too, and my male alts who look like they are trying to ride a unicycle while running because of their fully upright knees at 45 degree angle run which is unnatural and comical. Sprint animation mitigated this. It's hard to play your characters when they don't look good anymore.

    So... don't run the Steed?

Look, I get the impulse to go for "I want to be the very best" and "I want my character to look the best," but there are times that you have to sacrifice one for the other. My main is a musclebound Orc tank who wouldn't be caught dead with any weapon other than a sword and board (ok, an axe), but I had to put that aside and say a few bad words so I could give him a stick in higher-level content so I could drop full-stength crushers. Meanwhile, I've got an alt who purposefully keeps his Werewolf transformation unmorphed despite the DPS loss because he's supposed to have greyish brown fur, not black.

The problem here is that the 'fixed' animations are very noticeably floaty, so it's not really an improvement on how it looks. If you're moving between run and sprint speed anyway, you'll end up with weird animations. But the fact that some of the run animations are very slow compared to the respective sprint animation (Werewolf being the notable one), it means that not moving into the sprint at high speeds looks completely ridiculous.

Also along the lines of Werewolf - the RP walk for werewolves now also slides across the floor as if on ice. This 'fix' to try to make fast runs look better actually ended up making everything EXCEPT fast runs look worse.

I think this is the big idea why this is confusing. A lot of people think it's RP walk > Jog > Run in terms of animations, but that's not correct. There are actually four animations here (walk>jog>run>sprint), and I'm willing to bet that unless you're on gamepad, it's unlikely that you've ever seen the jog animation because not many people know how to get it to trigger outside of gamepad.

In order for a player on M&K to see the 'jog' animation, you had to RP walk with a speed boost like the Wild Hunt ring. What most players assumed was jogging (moving without RP walk and without sprinting) was actually 'running.' And most personalities don't have a custom 'sprint,' so things like Assassin and Thief went back to the default when you hit the speed cap.

OMG I JUST TESTED THIS - THE WORKAROUND TO GET THE JOG IS NOW BROKEN ON PTS
Sorry, I can't get a video, but if someone has the ability , please try this:

If you RP walk with the Jester personality while wearing Wild Hunt, you'll do the most hysterical waddle. But on PTS, it tries to keep you constrained into the 'walk' animation so you just do the normal walk while sliding along like you're on ice. M&K players are therefore unable to see 'jog' animations due to this change.

This change NEEDS to be reverted. If a player wants to see a different animation, there are ways to take more/fewer speed boosts. But removing the ability to see animations is NEVER the answer. Especially if it ends up making the entirety of Tamriel look like an ice rink.

Yeah I don't use the steed as I never see the assassin jog animation with it. This is a good QoL for me. Maybe make it only not work with base animations?

You are 100% correct about the jog animations coming before the running animations, and that most people using mouse and keyboard never see this regardless of movement speed.

theyre ruining the way the game looks for the sake of what seems to me to be a very small and quiet section of the player base who had issues with wanting to see all the animations. the solutions players themselves can do are so easy such as taking off the wild hunt ring, not using speed boost abilities/passives, taking off speed boost sets. the devs really didnt have to go out of their way to make the game look goofy for everyone on behalf of those players

The problem isn't that they are ruining it due to catering to a specific demand. They are ruining it due to a completely botched execution. This isn't an impossible thing to achieve. It's honestly not even hard. The fact that it is SO bad and yet such a commonly solved problem industry-wide makes me believe that something must have gotten messed up during the final compilation for the PTS release. If it persists for another week or so without fix or comment THEN we can start panicking because at that point they've clearly pulled all of their seasoned devs off the project.

Woah! The Crash Bandicoot transformation is complete! First the goofy jump animation, now this! Oh boy.

Sprint animations for your character will no longer be incorrectly played as a result of increasing movement speed to high levels.

Wait. This is intentional? Please tell me it's bugged. WW ice skating looks silly as hell. Same for all the personalities.

Somebody post the Jester personality run on test! I gotta see this.
