Someone in zone chat asks for money. What do you do?

Im always broke so I dont give. But if I see a no CP player asking for any help (not money) I usually give some money too I can spare because it really helps when you are new.

There are quite a few people that just hop from zone to zone spamming the same garbage everywhere they go.

"Can anyone spare some "insert item of value?"

One particular person was asking for Dragon Blood last week, and is going around asking for Columbine today. It's clearly working because I see them posting all the time.

Often its a scam.. In case it is someone new, I advise them to do writs because that really does make them money and if they did them they wouldn't need to ask for hand outs.

Apparently I give them a stack of filled soul gems. (someone begging on pc/NA yesterday, it was a pitch I hadn't heard before) . But by the next time I saw the same message I knew it was just someone effectively begging for gold.

Ignore them. Pretend it wasn't even said in chat.

If they start spamming it they might end up on my ignore list.

People asking for gold, Ignore. People asking for random crafting mats, I send my excess that I'm not using. Can I get some flax? 5 stacks in the mail!

Same. Also, the one thing that's guaranteed to get my sympathy every time is a request for lockpicks. Running out at a really inopportune moment? We've all been there.

Nothing. It took a lot of time, grinding, exploration & effort to have the amount of gold I do today.

I never asked for handouts of gold or anything else I needed, when I started playing.

So I don't see why I should just give away free gold whenever, to whomever asks for it when they don't want to expend the same effort & expect others to do the work for them.

Usually ignore them. However, I was once running around Khenarthi’s Roost on Xbox. This low-level player latched on to me and ran around with me for about an hour. At the end, they invited to me to trade and gave me a blue item and a couple of useless mats as a gift. But it was a lot to them. I gave them a million gold in return. They tried to give it back. I found that really sweet. I insisted. Other than that uncharacteristic moment of charity, requests in zone chat fall on deaf ears. I do make an exception for people who ask for crafting in chat. I am usually happy to help for free.

I once got mailed an potato. I assumed it was either an mail to the wrong recipient or someone sent it as an reward for my performance in an pug dungeon 😹

It depends. If they are asking for gold, I suggest doing writs for money. On PS/NA I have seen the same folks asking for gold in multiple zones, so I'm suspicious of folks asking for gold. If they are asking for some mats and I think they are a new player, I will send mats.

give them useful amount of gold
Depends. If they seem like a genuine new player, or ask for help affording something like an Inn room then I'll make sure they can buy a small house :)

If on the other hand I think they are simply begging or annoying then they get ignored (though not the ignore list, that's always full...)

Oh yes. Oh well, a stack of filled gems is not something I'll miss.
I sent them 1 refined maple the next time I saw it.

This player is on every day going from zone to zone for hours at a time spamming the same message. We may not miss a stack of soul gems but those stacks sell for 6k gold at a merchant. They could be bringing in a lot of gold preying on others generosity.

After the first time, I told zone it was a scam. Not much more I can do. Except waste their time with low value material mail.

If on console, look up their gamercard. Check what level, or how long they've been playing. When they're asking for 10k for that horse, but they're CP1200, give them nothing.

I have recently been helping someone build up their first character on the EU PC server. We both also play on NA. I have not given any gold, because all you can do with it is buy something I could provide directly. You get enough gold doing almost anything to pay for riding lessons etc. and those only need paying out once a day. Making equipment with the right traits, so they don’t have to rely on drops, taking them to each zone, so they have a wayshrine to get exploration started, those are the things that help. Gold doesn’t.

Buying your first mount is borderline. You can run as fast as you ride until you get the Major Gallop from the Alliance skill line at level 10, and you get a free horse at that level. I think it’s probably better to help them reach L10 ASAP, and the zone guidance is likely to do that from the exploration xp. That can all be done on day one, and the first riding lesson can be afforded by anyone who reached that level.
