I tell ask them if they want to be their own boss and make some real gold. Then I tell them about this brand new multi-level marketing opportunity out of the Imperial City where they can sell Nirnroot to their friends and family.

Five unsolicited advice on how to make money.
As it is reasonably straight forward to make gold in the game I do not "give" gold.
If a new player is making an unsolicited request to me for gold then I will advise them "play the game and level up". Visit your home city and learn how to do writs.

Play the game, level up, do daily writs. Nobody needs to be given gold.

20-May Just taken out my sub level 50 account and did a round of dolmens in Auridon (I had to find the top dolmen) and toothmaul gully for the first time. Netted just under 5000 gold. A round of writs would add about another 2500 gold.

give them useful amount of gold
Over the years I have helped many, many people, either with gold, by crafting or by sending mats. A lot of those people have gone on to become what I consider to be a close friend.

I never expect any return but prefer that one day they do the same for somebody else.

I am 100% sure some of the people I sent gold were likely going from zone to zone begging but tbh I don't care, the ones that are genuinely grateful by far make up for that! 💕

General zone chat players - I ignore them. I ignore Zone chat in general.

But there's been times where I've been adventuring and run across a new player. I'll randomly give them gold (like 5k or something) or something useful like the zone weapons on me.

I have no mercy for Poor people. If they have time to beg, they have time to farm Dreugh Wax.

Since a single Druegh Wax can sell for about 50K on PC right now, it's probably more beneficial to sell a couple of those than spend half the day shaking the Ol' donation hat. Or farming dolmens for purple jewellery mats, since most people level up new characters in Alik'r anyway, they'll be getting more than a few purple rings .

Fwiw, I gave them 500k, made them purple gear and took them through the public dungeon in deshan b4 heading out. Also invited them into a guild. Maybe I just read les miserables too many times but I love how that priest gave Val John the rest of the silverware too and bought him back from a life of crime with mercy and grace.

I barley have time to play.

    I'm always broke.

I never have good or cool stuff anymore.

But with this pvp event I thought I'd try and build a build real quick.

I got it all put together and all I needed was gold weapons.

    But I was broke.

I explained to zone chat what I needed and what I had and bam

I got sent all the rosin needed for my weapons and was able to jump into pvp that night with gold weapons.

All because I asked for help calmly and nicely.
And explained why I needed it.

And lots of ppl in zone chat thought I was scamming.

    I wasn't.

And I was very grateful to the people who helped me

It made my night. I'd been at work all day and wanted to pvp so bad but my gear wasn't good enough.

And instead of farming and waiting and potentially not even pvping.

I was able to have a great time and I killed so many reds.

So ya. Sometimes asking for help actually, helps.

I ignore people that say "gold pl0x" just like I do in every mmo.

Tbf, this is probably one of the few mmos where I would ignore someone asking for gold. You do not need gold early in the game for any reason. All activities that need gold are mid and end game activities.

Five unsolicited advice on how to make money.
im with the "it depends" side of things personally.

if its a new/returning player and theyre getting into the swing of things but need a little extra help to get them started ill give items to help them out. like the sorta people who ask for just a couple wormwood or whatever for a crafting writ, when i see them in chat ill give them a stack of whatever little thing theyre asking for bc i spend a lot of time farming. ill also give them some tips too when i mail the stuff over

if its someone whos clearly begging for the sake of getting free stuff, especially expensive free stuff, ill kindly point them in the direction of crafting certification and add ons to help them out. for example there was one player a while ago on pc-na who would beg for thousands of alchemy ingredients at a time, expensive stuff in quantities usually between 1.2-1.5 million gold at the time, he did this in multiple zones with multiple ingredients and even admitted to wanting to sell it. folks like that only get my advice once before i block them nowadays

I've just started on Xbox and I only ever hear the annoying people at the crafting area playing the radio.

I would only help out a member of a guild I'm in. There's no guarantee they aren't wasters either but I have to demonstrate a certain amount of loyalty.

Basically I prefer to help people help themselves.
If you give them gold they spend it and have to ask anew. If you tell them how to gain it, it helps them long term.
If someone needs a specific item for writs like wood, other ingredients or bait for fishing etc I often give it free, I have enough.

Sadly there are scammer-like beggars in the game too. I once had a guy asking for stuff worth around 200k for free, since he was "so poooor". After i told him in pm that he is asking for very expensive late game stuff, he got insulting very quickly.

Then i saw him selling the begged stuff on another area. After i called him out for it i got banned for 72 hours.

Most of the time when I witness a player asking for money I reply to him what he need it for. Quite often it's a newer player trying to improve his inventory or something like that. So I donate him the amount he is asking for. It's really not that much money for a veteran player.

I don't think anyone is trying to get rich by begging, folks do the flipping game to do so.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

I generally ignore all requests for money in zone, but I'll mail mats, soulstones, and other items in reasonable quantities to those who are new and just trying to finish a crafting daily or are struggling to res themselves.

If I am actively playing in a group with someone who is genuinely new and trying to learn, where it is obvious through the evidence of how they are playing that they are new, I go further, such as offering to craft gear to help them enjoy their experience more.

Well i mostly agree except that bank and bag spaces are expensive and if you dont have eso+ are really essential. that's about 500k it total, 200k ish for bag space plus recipies. For 9 toons bag space plus bank space is about 2 mil.

Rather no, but it depends a bit.

In most cases, I don't, because most players ask out of laziness or because they try to obtain something faster than their current progress can allow. They shall just play the game like we all do.

Beside, don't forget that trading allows for rapid and easy gold, even just with a few resources farming, so there is - on my opinion - no valid reasons to beg for gold in this game.

      I did twice an exception:
      - One guy asking for 200g to have enough for a crowns trading, for an item that was leaving crown store the day after. He even sent me back 100g, explaining that another player had sent 200g too so he kept 100g from each. Fair enough.
      - One other guy had such a fake and stupid excuse to ask for gold, that I ROFL at it and alone for that, it was worth sending a little something. :D
