The Misery of Antiquities Leads

The whole antiquity sys is stupid.

    1. It adds more gold into circulation which increases inflation
    2. It significantly restricts certain motifs supply and they are not even in crown store or event box
    3. unnecessary and painful grind for mythic items (the topic of these post)

Zos could’ve just added some achievements vendors instead this

It is not increasing inflation to any significant degree or it would be felt on all platforms.

    ETA
The biggest gold faucet on PC is the add-ons adjusted lazy writs. The amount of coin from antiquities is literally fine.

    1. I agree direct gold from quest is a bigger contributor to inflation

    2. The amount from antiquity is not negligible, greymoor to blackwood had annual inflation rate of 200%+

    3. I was informed by xbox transfers that they too experienced small inflation in that time period.

    2ND UPDATE:

I finally got the 3rd codex entry for the Moon-Blessed Ceremonial Pool! It dropped on the 1,736th container I opened.

I also managed to get a couple of Lancers from the Conquest Daily Rewards in Cyrodiil during the event. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that I wasn't utterly dreadful in PVP and I actually enjoyed it far more than I expected.

Excluding codex entries requiring treasure maps, I now have 40 left to find.

Whilst the grind has, at times, been frustrating, it has lead me to try out different aspects of the game that I had previously written off.

I don't think I'll manage to complete the codex as I really don't like Dragonstar Arena and I'm not willing to grind sufficient gold to purchase the necessary treasure maps. That said I will make more of an effort to complete the codex for new antiquities - it is a lot easier to do when content is new than a few years down the line!

Placing a lead on the last boss of the DSA is unnecessarily cruel imo. Nobody ever wants to do that place, it takes forever, and it is not fun. After spending more time looking for groups to do that place than actually running it, I bought my 8 year old daughter a copy of the game and set her up on my work Mac so at least I have company to run this awful place. Still no lead.

I'd just like to say that it is a pain in the posterior to get antiquity leads from a world boss when you're the only one at that world boss.

I could not agree more. It should be an automatic drop, or at least a 50/50 chance. DSA is a grind, and a long grind at that.

I've completed the codex on PCNA. Some tips I've learned that might help:

    1. Focus on one lead at a time. If you take on too much at once, it can easily get overwhelming.

    2. Be persistent, Don't give up. Keep going until the lead you are after drops. RNG will determine how fast you'll get it, but do it enough times and it'll eventually drop. It won't drop if you aren't doing te required activity. (But if you need to take a break and come back to that one later, it's not a problem, just don't go hopping around to different ones after only a few tries. It's taken me over a week for some of them to drop more than once)

    3. The first time is fastest, second can take forever, and third can often be faster than the second. I've noticed this pattern with most leads I've farmed. The first lead has always been super fast for me, but going after it a second time has taken what had felt like forever before it dropped, and the third time was in between.

    4. Have patience. Farming for anything in the game can be stressful if you expect the thing you are after to drop and are anticipating it. It becomes a disappointment when the next kill/loot doesn't drop the item. Instead, just relax, put something to listen to on in the background, and just enjoy running around. You'll enjoy it more and be excited when the thing does eventually drop.

    Good luck and have fun!

While I agree with all of your points and think that you've hit the nail on the head, I will also say that some of the leads are unnecessarily difficult to obtain. I don't think that we should be handed everything, but at the same time leads should be accessible to casual game play. Having one chance per day for a lead drop from visiting the Shadowy Supplier seems very shortsighted at best. I can tell you that I only have 2 characters that have access to the Shadowy Supplier, and I don't feel that I should have to run a dozen characters through that quest line in order to have a better chance at getting one lead. ZOS needs to realize that we don't need more content to mindlessly grind. Make the game fun and people will play it. Simple as that.

yeah i would agree with this, certain leads with very very specific sources (such as the one you mention), should have a much higher drop rate, while ones from general sources (drop from any mob in this area, like one of the oakensoul leads in malabal tor) would make sense with a lower drop rate

but it almost feels like the reverse at times, some like the void crystal anomaly from coldharbour seem unusually common even though there are a good number of sources that drop it

I'm fairly certain that an intern plugged in the drop rate for the Coldharbour gold lead, as I get it every single time I'm in Coldharbour. I think that I have 30 of the furnishings and now I just let the lead expire.

I don't mind that one being the way it is, because it is very useful in leveling the Antiquities skill lines, being a gold lead with a generous drop rate.

Agreed. I used that lead to level excavation/scrying for several characters.

This one took me a fair amount of time too. In the end I put something good on TV and ran loops in the bottom right-hand corner of the map. There's a few adds to deal with but plenty of logs to find without travelling too far.

The dungeon/arena/world and delve boss leads need to have the drop rates increased significantly. There is no fun running the same content over and over again to get nothing in return other than a growing feeling of misery and frustration.

The antiquity motif leads AT LEAST need to be curated. That is, no "repeats" until you've got the factoids for all of them.

And I don't mean "if the RNG decides to give the player the Ancient Akaviri Chests lead, but they already have the factoid for Akaviri Chests, it gives them nothing".

What I mean is, "the RNG decides to give the player *an Ancient Akaviri Motif lead*, and AFTER having determined that the player gets a lead, generates a lead from the set of those not previously known by the player, and if the player already knows all 14, generates one at random".

The difference would be that, with the first version, you get *false* curation - Ancient Akaviri motifs get rarer and rarer as the player knows more of them. Whereas with the second, you get *true* curation - the chance of getting ANY motif from that set is equal no matter how many maps you open, because the determination of which motif you get is separate from the determination of whether you *get* a motif from the set or not.

Having spent a lot of my free time farming this one, I have given up.

I got 2 Coil of Satakal gold furnishings within just a few minutes of switching.

Also can’t get Brazier of Frozen Flame 3 item either.

I don’t believe they fixed the drop rate but like they claimed.

Thanks for the well-wishes, though. I even had some wood surveys there but no luck.

How are you all finding the second lead drop for Necrom mythics? I've been trying for Cryptcanon Vestments for the past couple of days and so far I haven't received one despite more than 80 attempts.

Neither have I received a single treasure map for Telvanni Peninsula or Apocrypha. Are the drop rates lower than usual for a new zone or are others having more luck?

On the upside, I am enjoying Azandar's perk - lots of Research Portfolios are dropping whilst stealing from the many, many urns in Necrom. I've had quite a few treasure maps drop, though sadly nothing for the zones I really need. I did get a Summerset one today so there is some hope...

Update on Codex: excluding treasure map leads I now have 85 to find.

I've been farming chests in the Vile Manse for about a week now with no lead drop. Does make me feel like there's a very inconsistent bias in some leads. I can find some very consistantly, but others apparently don't exist. I agree that if a lead comes from a very specific source then the rate should be higher. Dungeon bosses>treasure maps>specific delve/WB drops>specific area chests/nodes>mob drops

Yes the lead difficulty varies wildly. The watchling lead made me vow no mythic would ever be worth that much effort again! And I will never even attempt a lead that behind a treasure map. I can't even believe that anyone ever thought that was a good idea once, never mind over and over.

Leads can be REALLY annoying to get: low drop ratio + rng. This is exactly why I stopped caring about leads long ago.

      Totally agree with OP.

Currently STILL (5 months in) working on the LAST lead for the Oakansoul ring. Murkmire strongboxes. Have opened literally hundreds of Strongboxes with no lead.

Also working on a couple of music boxes, and the same thing, nary a lead in MONTHS.

Yes I know RNG is at work here, but come on, this is just sad.

I'm still looking for the last lead for the glyph music box, the one from bastion nymic. I can only do it once a day as I only have one toon that can solo herald seekers and sometimes there is no one on zone chat that wants to do a run at the time of night that I play.

The group finder would have helped if it were available for BN.

I've still yet to get the Mushroom book or the Cliff Strider Anatomy model despite all of my hunting.
Putting furnishing leads in Necrom maps is soul-crushing

Was lucky to get Oaken as quickly as I did based on others experiences here

You have discovered the thirty-seventh Sermon of Vivec, which is a bending of the light, long past the chronicles of the Hortator who wore inconstant faces and ruled however they would, until apocalypse.
