Give some light to total darkness

I don't know about you, but I really love playing PvE roleplay in ESO.
(This time, let's avoid talking about nerfs)

One thing I particularly enjoy is exploring caves, delves, dungeons, and other closed-off areas in darkness. I even set my game brightness to the darkest level possible. Unfortunately, the game doesn't have any object or mechanism to illuminate more these places.
I know we have some mementos for this, but they have a very short duration. 9seconds?
We even have a pretty fun personality holding a torch, but once again, the light emitted by it is not enough to illuminate in the darkness.
If Zenimax could enhance these light mementos with an on/off switch or allow for some customization of the personality, that could be a great solution.

Do you have any ideas on how Zenimax could improve illumination in dark areas for players who prefer a more realistic experience?

    Holy crap you can.

Jokes aside. I agree that something like this is needed for the players that do like to play like you. How difficult that can be is beyond my skillset, but it would be nice to see.

Speaking of Mementos, I wish that the "cosmetic enhancing" ones could be permanent. I play a DK and I would love to have the Inferno Cleats permanently on.

Unfortunately, because ESO is an MMO, ZOS is going to design it to appeal to the broadest audience, and I suspect dungeons and delves are so well-lit is due to this.

I personally don't think ZOS will or should alter basic game designs to appeal to a niche playstyle. While I've also thought it would be cool if a delve was darker to be more immersive, the random passing of other players would ruin this immersion, so it's not really worthwhile IMO.

I guess the introduction of a memento like a torch, lantern, or magical light source that actually casts a realistic amount of light and lasts more than a few seconds would be a good compromise, but then you'd run into issues like what happens when you enter combat.

Long story short, if I'm looking for an immersive dungeon experience, I'll fire up Skyrim instead of ESO.

Until someone says 'we don't need it'. If that happens, I'm ready to argue and fight for it. :D Jokes aside.

I don't think it would be hard for Zenimax to increase the duration of those mementos or enhance the brightness of the torch in that personality. Perhaps that could work.

ESO has some amazing mementos, but in my opinion, they need a bit more work and improvement, such as the one you mentioned. Perhaps Zenimax could make them more permanent, but I'm not sure. I'm interested in hearing other opinions.

I normally use Finvir's Trinket (we can activate this ability during combat without any issues), but the 'blue aura' over the player is so ugly and blocks the view. If Zenimax were to remove this 'blue aura' and increase the duration, I think it would work.

To solve the lighting problem, I bought a whole bunch of shungite rocks, do you know what shungite is? It's a two billion year-old like, rock stone that protects against frequencies and unwanted frequencies that may be traveling in the air. That's my story, I bought a whole bunch of stuff. Put 'em around the la casa. Little pyramids, stuff like that. Never had issues with lighting after that.

Sometimes I use healing spells to lighten things up a bit in dark corners. Like if I'm checking for chests.

Not against getting some kind of permanent torch in game.

An on/off switch for mementos would be great. There's some I wish I could just keep on all the time and walk around with because they're cool looking (my graven deep bubble comes to mind).

A lamp with a nice neutral colored light would be great for screenshots and fixing outfit colors at poorly lit stations.

Almalexia's enchanted lantern is great for lighting dark spaces.

There's another memento from Bad Man's Hollows that does the same (kind of).

Hell, I think regular magelight does too. I forget how long the light mote persists, but it does illuminate. There are options.

We already know about these. Don't mind me. Yeah, some persistent solution would be preferable to a timed memento.

I use almalexia’s lantern. You could also try item sets like pearlescent.

I was having trouble exploring some Dwemer ruins and didn't want to mess with brightness. I noticed the effect on my weapon, the Engine Guardian greatsword, helped me see better, albeit in a small radius. I found that to be more convenient than having to activate a memento every few seconds.

Same here, it lasts for 22 seconds *** and gives quite reasonable (and very pretty) light in dark places such as The Lightless Oubliette.

*** Currently, anyway, and I'm *not* going to mention what it used to be, that would be mentioning something the OP wished to remain unmentioned ;)
