does companion negative rapport bother you?

I think it's stupid when some of the negative rapport actions are you made a dish with cheese. Bastian you don't like cheese? I don't care I didn't cook for you. Mirri you don't like me collecting bugs for alchemy, well then I'm not healing you...and so on. I can see companions disliking entering a DB sactuary, using the blade of woe, or stealing things but the others are simply stupid IMO.

The in-game implication of cooking with the companion is that you're offering them some. Mirri actually thanks you for drinking with her when you get her letter, because you made a drink with her out. Bastian isn't annoyed by the existence of cheese. He's annoyed you keep trying to get him to make/eat cheese when you know he's lactose intolerant.

Unfortunately, this is not well communicated to the player. So he comes across poorly. He just comes across as having some weird hatred of cheese.

    Yes and no.

I don't mind negative rapport for things that would be huge moral issues for the characters. But some of the repetitive minor losses for really mundane things (crafting with cheese) make the companions less likable.

Considering how I spent the time saving their lives or solving huge issues for them, I don't think filling a crafting writ should make the companion think less of me. Makes them seem a bit petty.

I never would have gotten this because it doesn't make sense. I craft just enough food to turn into a writ, and all of the food ends up going into the box, and don't offer Bastian any or even interact with him. If the companions had a gift-giving system and I tried to give him Cheese that would be one thing, but we dont.

The only time I've ever got a negative is with Ember when I pay fines.

Oh I agree that it could be better expressed. I like that he's lactose intolerant and that he loses rapport in relation to cheese. But, they could have done a much better job showing that. Like perhaps he'd lose rapport if you purchased cheese at an inn. Or if they had a gift giving system and you gave him cheese.

It's a shame because it's an interesting dislike considering all the jokes about cheese in this franchise.

As in so much else, I like the writing for Isobel:

"Stendarr wants me to tell you he saw that."

I do like to roleplay my characters' relationships with the companions a little, so I've tried to not despawn them when I know I'm going to do something they will dislike. It's not like the relationship can't be repaired and it also helps me see them as part of the story of said character. Makes it feel more alive.

My wood elf travels with Ember and they both enjoy going through pockets where their fingers don't belong, while my dark elf is more upstanding and travels with Isobel, but he has a terrible dislike of litter, so him picking up all the thieves' troves invariably leads to a disapproving comment. In my head, it has them bickering like an old married couple in the background for the rest of the day. And I do take Ember fishing by accident sometimes, but I will just let the first rapport drop hit. After that, it feels like Ember would be the kind of person who would just wander off and say "I'll see you when you're done", so then I will despawn her.

The only time I will actively despawn companions to avoid them commenting is when it's time for the Blade of Woe. It feels like a member of the Dark Brotherhood would not want company for that.

I think it would be better if it was switched off when we reached max rapport.
