I agree with the OP. I am not an adventurer. Most days I just log in and sit outside and watch people wander by. Then log out after 7 or 8 hours.

I'd rather they stick to adventurer.

I would like to see at some point a class that is more generic and if they burn all of the terms or variants for referring to the player they won't have anything to call said future class.

Personally I like being called adventurer or mercenary. They're pretty accurate catch all terms for the sort of work my character typically does.

I don’t mine being called that. I can’t stand the constant “YOU THERE!!!!!” from a finger-pointing NPC.
Yeah, apparently countess such-and-such described all my characters perfectly.

I like adventurer because it's relatively neutral. None of my characters are the vestige, mercenaries, etc.

I'll take Adventurer over Mercenary any day, any time.

It makes my teeth itch when provincials address the Vestige from Coldharbor, the Five-Clawed Moon Hallowed, the King's Arrow, the Savior of the Covenant, the Champion of Vivec, the Hero of Wrothgar, the Savior of Summerset, the Root Whisper Redeemer, the Champion of Anequina and Hero of the Dragonguard, the Savior of Solitude, and the Guardian of the Reach as "mercenary." It's downright dismissive.

I'd prefer it if they called us by name, but then that would beg the question of how they knew our name in the first place.

Adventurer works fine for me, it's an accurate enough description for what we do in a game like ESO.

I prefer adventurer to "soldier." I think its Stonefalls where they constantly use soldier. It always annoys me - my character is trotting around in sparkly clothes and helping them out, not being a subordinate to be ordered around.

But we generally take part in adventures and that is what defines an adventurer... The term is supposed to be a catch-all that doesn't say much because it's almost impossible to define such a wide variery of players with a single word.

I also like the term "mercenary", for my character doesn't help the NPCs out of the kindness of his heart, but because he wants shiny motifs! However, that term isn't as broad or generic as adventurer. I wouldn't mind being called "George Clooney lookalike", though.

You're going on adventures throughout Tamriel. You're an adventurer.
Example, the quest for Sathram Plantation on Stonefalls, as a Khajiit.

My reaction to playing that Quest.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. Being called comrade by Fighters Guild members gives a sort of Red Army feeling to me. Since I'm from a former Soviet Union country, it is not a good feeling.

I enjoyed many adventure games growing up (love Monkey Island!) and as a result I enjoy being called adventurer in ESO, even though technically it is a different genre. :)
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

That was probably a Redguard NPC, they tend to address strangers as "wayfarer", just like many Dunmer address people as "outlander".

Had to look up the exact meaning of wayfarer, and apparently it's someone who travels on foot. I love my mounts, thank you very much.
