I do the same and I don't stop there. I clear the chat name and uncheck every queue in the filtered list.I wouldn't know, first thing I do every time I create a character is go into the chat options and uncheck zone. I have no use for it.
For some, it's fun to argue differences of opinion on any topic whatsoever. For me, I'd rather focus on playing the game, having fun and becoming a valuable player.
I always found the Zone chats in any game just distracting and often offensive. First thing I did in ESO is make a new chat tab and exclude the Zone from it so I can just read people close to me. Problem solved.
I did exactly the same, and it's more enjoyable for me like this. If I want to read zone, for example when being in town, I just tap the "unfiltered" chat tab. I don't think you will find a better solution than this.I always found the Zone chats in any game just distracting and often offensive. If you condition players in an opposing alliance to ignore the chatbox then when they reach Cyrodiil they will not be watching for inter-group/inter-guild force coordination in PvP. As a tactic this method limits and fragments the coordination of alliance forces for minimal investment.
It's a shame, with each successive MMO I try over the years the chat seems to get worse. The only exception was GW2 which was pretty decent for some reason. Maybe it's just kids, but 10 years ago I would never be as disrespectful as some of these guys are. I was REALLY hoping that the paid sub model would keep most of these people out, maybe after the free 30 days is up.
