Major Lag spikes

I have found the reason for my problem for the extreme lame terrain load..

Coincidentally I have checked the cooling rips of my ASUS Laptop as it got partially hot when I played ESO. I always thought this would be of the high CPU and graphic demand.

But after I opened my laptop I immediatelly saw, that the fans and cooling rips were fully covered with lots of dust, actually you could say dirt. Hence I cleaned them, put the Laptop back together and started ESO again - and viola. Since them not a single problem, laptop not getting hot anymore and I can enjoy ESO in high Details now.

I assume, that the system tried to protect from overheating and reduced Turbo boost, etc etc.

You migt just wanna check temperature and you cooling fans/rips.

Close the launcher/updater instead of leaving it open in the background once the game is going. It solved most if not all of my video lag issues.

Probably in the wrong section of this forum but i would like it to be noticed and addressed by the developers as it is actually an issue, I'm glad to know other players are reporting it as well.

It has nothing to do with PC specs or ISP nor the graphical settings you chose, I'm pretty sure of that, it seems like an awful optimization issue that ZO has to address immediately.

Thanks for the tip but the problem described here is not FPS lag. It isn't ISP either; teamspeak or other comms continue along just fine. This is extreme server lag.

Hey, I remember seeing something happen just before the lag hits:
Fire runes launched up onto walls occasionally bug out and explode over and over rapidly. Within a few seconds of seeing this, I almost always see massive delays before skills fire/weapon swap/sneak.. Maybe it's just caused by the lag, or maybe it's the culprit?

That being said, the lag does seem to be worst than usual lately. I've been getting some too.

I notice people are still having lag issues. When I sent in a ticket about it I got an e-mail with instructions on how I could fix the lag myself. I didn't mind doing the footwork if it was something I could fix, even if it took me about an hour. After everything was said and done, I still don't notice a difference. The lag is so bad I can't defend myself, play in dungeons (as it's not fair to the people in my group), even trying to gather mats is a pain in the butt. I just squat there not doing anything and it looks like I'm trying to get it and someone comes up and takes it.

I agree with those stating the lag issues are not about your PC, your internet connection, your setup or anything else you can do. Sure, you can reduce lag somewhat with these fixes, but during pvp it will lag no matter what, when you go into a populated zone it will lag, when you play for long periods it will lag.

Frankly, I've become tired of these same problems occurring since the game started and it seems no matter how many of us state the obvious, the devs aren't owning up to the issue and resolving it. Please stop telling us how to fix your issue on our end. It doesn't work.

As much as I like this game, I find myself not wanting to log in and deal with the stilted game play due to stuttery lag.

Until about 2 weeks ago I was like "They will fix the lag." But I just realised that I hit the vet level and have a fair chance in pvp agains most ppl, so I wanted to do more pvp like in the beta... but I found out that the servers are lagging... as a matter of fact their cpu cant handle the load and thus even my movement lags on my perspective... I press the w and takes 2 secs to actually start moving forward. Ok... so I started to worry that the took the old good recipe of mmo making of "Do nothing. There will be always enough fools who pay for this ***."
So I dropped the topic to zone chat and actually found out that about 90% of the ppl there even protects zenimax in this stating that I am the stupid because I dont quit. Lol how to quit of a 60+30days sub which was based on that simble fact that they said that from launch, the servers will be better and even migrated to eu... and tbh at launch there wasn't this much lag. This worries me even more that it was intentional and well planned marketing that after the first sub they just take out maney from the servers and that they might never planned otherwise... not even the migration for eu on eu servers. It smells like a fraud, a scam. And with the ppl on zone chat really hating those who mention this and stating that "every game has small bugs" on a basic issue that ruins the whole pvp aspect, zenimax could really just leave the whole thing as it is now and farm those ppl subs to the end. The problem is that the game would be good without this fundamental flaw. And finally a good pvp in a new mmo. But watching the 60 days counting back and logging in every day, tapping holster/draw on login as a test that "maybe now... now they fixed it" and then u realise that even on the basecamp it takes 5-6secs to draw ur weapon... then you log out... maybe try some catapulting for daily and wait another day... and then you get the hate for stating that it's not right.

This game has turned into a huge lag ball. Get the lag fixed, make the NPCs phase in for crying out loud, and fix the skills not firing or I'm done. It's just not worth spending money on a broken game.

I have a high end computer and a great internet connection yet i get lag spikes all the time in this game, and this game only. BF4 runs like a dream, but ESO...i die all the time from lag spikes.

..forgot to mention, i play on the US server. Why is there no mention of the lag on the us server in known problems? its a faking problem!

Although it has improved since I added ESO to my firewall exceptions (you have to do this manually, apparently ESO doesn't have the intelligence to add itself automatically like other 21st century games), the game is still unplayable if I go into crowded dungeons, especially if I try and group up. It's like the game is trying to catch up the other players interaction on my fps and everything just freezes up for 8-9 seconds, then continues, then the same again. The graphics card is running no where near capacity at this point and all other applications are stutter free.
I do not have the launcher running, I have tested with all addons disabled , I am actually running the game on LOW although even that has made no discernible difference. I have submitted 4 tickets so far, I really hope Zenimax will be able to look into this. I play on EU server.

Both my wife and I are getting lag spikes all the time now, usually 1 - 2 seconds in duration, and we both have high end computers, video cards, and 50MB/s ISP. It's NOT a computer or ISP issue, period. This only started happening about 2 or 3 patches ago, so something ZOS did is causing the issue.

Last night the wife and I went into Alessias Bulwark in Malabal Tor to craft some items. It's a small area and I believe there was only one other person in there with us. The lag was terrible for the both of us. You would take one or two steps and then freeze, one or two steps and then freeze, etc. But when we went out of that particular area, we were fine again. At least until we run into the next lag zone.

I keep getting huge lag spikes and getting booted from game too.

I also get huge lag spikes. It was always there but it's longest was at least around 2 seconds or so but now for 60-90 seconds connection freezes then game kicks me out.

I have this new huge lag spikes since 1 week. I reside in EU and my latency is 160ms +- which fine by me if there is NO lag spike.

I noticed something interesting during the last patch - came home from work patched and started playing. It was a smooth as silk and as everyone finished patching it got worse and worse and the lags spikes started to happen.

Yesterday I had a lag spike that lasted 10 min it allowed me to swim off the edge of the world.

Close the Launcher after the game starts. VERY POOR PROGRAMMING that the leave the Launcher open.

Also, make sure that Windows didn't start the Windows Firewall back up. I use the Avast firewall that comes with some of their virus programs and I turn the Windows Firewall off but Windows keeps turning it back on despite my orders to stop it.

They should be SUED for turning the Firewall back on after people turn it off.
I found it was back on again today.
Need a batch file to turn the damn thing off so it could be run every day to make sure Windows doesn't turn it back on again.

I seemed to have much better performance after I turned the Windows Firewall off again and closed the Launcher.

Although I was also using a VPN and connecting in the middle of Utah where there are fewer people connecting to the net than in Phoenix. I also quit using the VPN just in case that was causing some of my problems but when running speedtest.net I show about double the speed vs my cable company. Somehow the VPN seems to bypass the cable speed restrictions. Hope I can turn it back on.

When I first started playing I didn't seem to have an lag problem but the last couple of weeks it has gotten terrible.

I keep getting killed and resurrecting and AFTER I resurrect my Ultimate Ability fires but too late to keep me from being killed and then it is wasted.

REALLY pisses me off.

Happened to me this morning again. Mostly noticable during combat as everything freezes and when it unfreeze i i find myself ended up dead. Ruins my whole day, and really annoying. This have been happening a lot more frequently lately. Game unplayable with this lag. Hope they can resolve it...

Yes, I can agree I have also experience this a few times and the lag has become very bad in some cases to the point I lag across the map where I have just run from, but mainly it is from combat.. Click click click to attack and nothing, then enemy dies.

Still having the same issues, and I've been doing everything i can to make sure the problem is not on my end. And It's not. It's getting really really frustrating. The lag spikes are getting more frequent and lasting longer.

Been getting a lot of lag today, not freezing but where spells and that take a few seconds to act. Noticed this yesterday but not as bad as today. This has to be all server side.

literally just got the game yesterday. cant play cause of lag spikes. I Can play for like 5 mins and then every thing freezes. can't attack, cant loot, cant interact, can't play. close the client (cause even logging out normally is impossible during this time) log back in, repeat. this is BS. Very bad first impression. I was super excited to play this too! Is there a real fix yet or should i just cancel my subscription and uninstall now?
