Yes, that's another example like the Razum Dar one, in that with both you have the option to tell the truth or lie, and in each case both options progress the exchange satisfactorily so there's no requirement to lie. This one would have been made more interesting if you had a third option to say "Actually I was planning on using the room to store my Daedric memorabilia, is that a problem?"

You have the option to pick an option that does not have "[Lie]" in front if it. That is not the same as the option to tell the truth or lie. It could be that both of those options are lies, in which case there is no provision for actually telling the truth.

Given that the comment is the same in each case, I take it as meaning that you are lying if you pick the one marked "Lie" and telling the truth if you pick the one that isn't marked "Lie". No other interpretation makes sense in my view.

That is what the writers want out of the interaction, yes. However, if the character/player/account is going to worship daedra in that room, there is no provision from the ESO writers to say that. It is lying if you pick the one marked "[Lie]" and lying if the other one is chosen, as they are the same response. In this case, the only option that is not a lie is to say "Goodbye".

If this were a role playing game instead of an action adventure, it would matter more.

Aren't you reading something into it that isn't there? It's simple surely, if you say that you don't worship Daedra but actually will do so in the room then you select the "lie" option, if you mean what you're saying then you select the other option and truthfully say you don't worship Daedra. I agree that a third option in which you admit that you worship Daedra would be nice as I mentioned before, but given the options available one is clearly a lie while the other is honestly expressed, or so it seems to me. You can never have real roleplaying options in a MMO as it would mean players pursuing different game directions with particular complications for groups, but I think of ESO more as a roleplaying game than an action adventure, although I appreciate that is very subjective and it became less of one with AwA for sure.

This interpretation makes absolutely no sense.

They are the same response except for the word LIE. This means the word "Lie" is important.

In other words, if the word (Lie) is there, it implies that the statement is a lie. The fact that there is an alternative and otherwise identical selection, which does not include the word Lie, can only mean that the other choice not a lie, which means that it is the truth.

I'm starting to see why so many people do so badly on the SATs.

An Ashlander who worships the Three Good Daedra cannot truthfully choose any of those answers. Why should they lie when they know the truth of the false Tribunal?

A Malacath-following Orc cannot truthfully answer that question. Why should they lie, as if they are a weak Trinimac worshipper?

A Reachman who follows the Old Gods cannot truthfully answer that question. Why would a shaman modeled after Arana lie, when her clan has worshipped Namira or Hircine for generations?

In fact, any character who worships the Daedra for any reason can't truthfully answer that question. A truthful character cannot choose the [Lie] and they can't choose the "I don't even worship Daedra" option because it's not true.

I don't know if this is supposed to be commentary from the writers that Daedra worshipping is something you don't admit to on your housing application (despite there being several societies that openly worship Daedra) or if the writers just didn't think about characters who are proud enough of their beliefs to state openly that they worship Daedra.

Regardless, its a bit of a missed opportunity to have a line saying "I'll worship as I please" or something like that.

First one = You don't worship daedra and you're telling the truth.
Second one = You do worship daedra and are lying about not worshipping them, thus not telling the truth [Lie].

There's no other way to interpret this, one is lie and one is truth. Choose base on your character's RP situation. I for one worship the Daedric Prince Jyggalag & his champion Sheogorath, so I chose the [Lie] option.

Quite simply, there is no option for a daedra-worshipper to tell the truth.

I see that dialogue just as a joke for players and not a RP situation. And as a joke, it would be less punchy if a third option was provided.

Well, a truthful daedra worshipper is an oxymoron, at least if we speak about any of the towns we can get a free room in. A truthful answer of the daedra worshipper would simply lead to the "Guards!" reaction.

One solution to the inn room "problem" is your character recognises that as a breton Felande Demarie likely has a very narrow and dogmatic view of all daedra and doesn't fully appreciate the complexities of the situation, but that it's not the time or the place for a theological discussion, so they pick a simple answer which avoids the situation.

They could decide their patron does not really fit the definition of a daedra, even if the bretons think they do, so they can honestly say they don't worship daedra, knowing the intent of it is true even if some people might argue about the technicalities. For example my khajiit would pick this option, because to her the dadric prince Azura is nothing but a misunderstanding of the godess Azurah, Mother of all Khajiit and Favoured Daughter of Fadomai, but it's not worth trying to explain that at the time.

Or they could acknowledge that their patron is a daedra, but think they're in some way different from the ones Felande is worried about (like the dunmer's distinction between good and bad daedra) and again it's not worth trying to explain that to her at the time, so they opt for a simple white lie instead.

I decided one of my characters would always tell the truth no matter the consequences when possible. I like to give each character a few little quirks. Wasn't anything to do with her being noble. She will kill you if you are standing near a flower she wants. Why lie when she has no regard for your feelings or the consequences?

There are a few quests where there is no option for telling the truth. The options are not labeled as lies but any possible reply is a lie. With those on that character I go with what seems most true.
This character would also for a very long time never wear the same outfit twice in a row doing dungeons or trials. No reason, just one of those quirks each character has.

If he's referring to the initial encounter then the OP's claim is simply untrue. I just took a fresh character to Razum Dar and tested it. Twice I kept to the truth in the opening dialogue and Razum Dar simply advised me to fit in with the locals, while progressing the quest.
Which sums up how ESO works: you can't change the end result of most of the quests, because the game simply doesn't let you.

I just got a new account, and made the first char, and the very first starter quest in Khenarthi Roost can only progress if the character lies. I won't get to do the entire zone quest line.

The whole thing is pretend, how can it be a lie when the whole thing is made up. Your toon didn't actually do any of the things in question, it's just generated images on a screen. The toon doesnt even actually say the words, you just click on a screen. The screen says they are said, but noone actually said them You're choosing what to make real out of a whole lot that is not remotely real.

You know you're going to be killing a whole lot of things during this game right? And spying, and stealing, and working against your own alliance. If you do all Caldwell quests, you'll betray every leader. And given some of the mounts and pets and outfits you'll see, you'll likely do a whole lot of coverting as well.

Heck, yeah! I was grinding my teeth during that quest. Why would I ever kill a brother/sister, when I can just LIE that I did so? In this case it wouldn't have changed the outcome, whatsoever.

And it's just one example, there's other quests that could have been solved in a different way simply by either lying or telling the truth. It tends to be a bit jarring for me to get pulled out of my character and be forced to act a certain way that character would never act.

So while it may seem trivial, I totally get where OP is coming from.
