Unpopular Opinion: Jogging & Jumping should also cost Stamina

I think it'd be appropriate for the non Sprinting top movement speed as well as jumping to slowly drain Stamina. Leveling up would increase an Endurance Stat which decreases the amount drained. The costs of moving at top speed makes us prioritize walking, making us explore the world more slowly and thoroughly.

Well, it's not a flat "no" - but when I need to get somewhere (surveys etc) I'm not in sightseeing mode. When I AM in sightseeing mode, fine, but I don't want to have to micromanage stam drain on a regular basis just getting from one place to another.

Also would be pretty painful in Cyrodiil maybe - I'm not sure if they'd mess up the riding stam at the same time.

And, not everyone has any interest at all in "exploring the world more slowly and thoroughly" - that's a "you" thing, not everyone who plays.

Also an problem in dungeons people are speedrunning.

There’s a reason Skyrim stopped stamina drain on jogging and jumping when the other games had that. Would be even worse in ESO.

      Forcing something is never wise.

We have the ability to walk everywhere and if you choose to use a gamepad you have a variable speed which is cool. I do this as after a major accident I get dizzy while turning sharp and running...so I walk. mostly and fast travel as much as possible.

My choice. if someone could only move like in Oblivion people would quit.

I don't think the ESO world is immersive enough for that to really work well for many people.

Maybe if it was really easy to implement it could be added as an option.

ESO isn't Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim for me where I can just walk off in a direction and do what I feel I'd do in the world. ESO either has nothing, the same few encounters over and over, or an npc that desperately needs all of your attention right now that greets you multiple times with the same lines.

I could see maybe slowing down mount speed in an area until you've explored it via disabling Continuous Attack (I find on the PTS that the EU copy weeks make for a somewhat more immersive traveling experience because my mount is slower) but, I think that's as far as I would go and even that might be iffy/something you'd do only for the first few months content is out.

I am prepared for the no's.

How does the "exploring the world" notion work for PvP in cyrodiil?

I can see being charged stam for jumping, but not just for holding down the W button.

So basically, everyone who is higher leveled will have little to no stamina drain while newbies are forced to walk everywhere with untrained horses and next to no wayshrines...

I feel like this would greatly kill the game's ability to entice new players....

Let's just make it even harder for newbies to catch up to high level speedrunners in dungeons by denying them any chance at all

      Darn right.

Honestly, forcing people to stop and smell the roses, doesn't make them appreciate it more.

(those of us who like to explore, will do it anyway. People who aren't in to that, will just be more annoyed.)

A thought on "prioritize walking"... nearly every action/RPG I've played in a long time, has 'jog' as the default move speed. With 'walk', if it even has that option, something you have to press an extra key to switch to, just like sprinting.

This suggests to me that jog is the 'prioritized' speed, the default.

You'd think that if the devs wanted to prioritize walking, they'd make that the default speed.

edit: obviously, I'm speaking from the standpoint of keyboard+mouse, where you just have "go" and "stop", not "go slower by only moving the thumbstick halfway"

Yeah no. I hate how jumping cost stamina in some games and wouldn't want to be forced to a walking pace in a game this massive.

Walking for exploring the world would be more appropriate in a game where you visit each location (sub-location as well) only once. It is not so fun when you are expected to visit the same locations multiple times a day. I mean, it is understandable to take time and explore for example Alinor while walking when first visiting it. It is not when you have been there for the last 1000 days and want to do daily writs, daily quests, visit a bank and so on. Fast travel (jogging is a form of fast travel) is a thing for a reason.

Well you can always walk slowly as you please without others playing your type of game. Could be some sort of roleplay debuff surely, but nothing more than that.

On a separate note. Farming nodes would just be a ton of fun. Forced to walk while trying to beat broken bots who don't worry about stam. That would be brilliant. Like many other comments of the forum people just do not think of the overall repercussions of their proposals. Nothing exists in a vacuum.

And who said the only way to properly explore the world is to walk at the speed of a mesmerized tourist? I love exploring and wearing the ring of the wild hunt improves my experience. If I want to take a closer look at something, I can always stop and do just that.

How about you play the game how you want to play it and others play the game how they want. You're basically suggesting a mechanic that forces people to have a "stop and smell the roses" type of playstyle. It would also have a negative impact on PvP and PvE combat. Sorry, but if I'm on the game I'm not going to waste time walking slowly, I don't have time like that.

No thanks after using the ring of the wild hunt and Steed's Blessing green tree slot able often enough I now find the default run speed too slow let alone the walking speed.

This would likely result in people being mounted for every little thing in towns.
