The reactions to this topic are interesting. In years past I wouldn't have supported going down this road, but now there is this new feature listed on PTS:
    Customized Actions
Customized Actions are a new kind of cosmetic collectible that replace the animations and effects that play when your character performs specific actions. This includes things like changing the color of the constellation you summon while recalling to summoning a magical creature to gather plants for you.

There are 3 Customized Actions for you to test during this PTS cycle, which we are currently planning to release sometime after Update 36 launches on all platforms. These include:
Recall of the Galen Winds (recalling to a Wayshrine)
    Stonelore Split (chopping wood)
    Gyrfalcon Gather (gathering plants)
To use a Customized Action, navigate to the Collections menu and choose Customized Actions. Choose the category you would like to use and select it to make it active. Then, simply perform that action as you normally would and the selected Customized Action will play instead of the default action.
You can only activate one Customized Action per category at a time.
If you want to return to the default action, return to the Customized Action category and select it again to deactivate it.

These new customized actions are doing exactly what's being discussed in this thread - storing multiple animations for one activity. Now these, right now, wouldn't impact combat, and I didn't get to watch the preview stream so I don't know if these will be monetized, but is what the OP suggested so very different from this new feature?

I would think the ONLY way ZOS could make the entire player base happy, now that they have introduced a replacement animation and some like it and some hate it, would be to allow player choice. Whether they should charge for this privilege, and the balancing implications, are certainly complications for considering this for combat animations... but as far as I know it's not something I've run into in other MMOs and could be an interesting way to build on Customized Actions.

I think I personally would consider paying for it, but agree that maybe this should be a "free" one if they go down that road, so as not to look to the playerbase as if they change things in order to make us pay to change them back. But they could introduce other things, like different colors so we could fight themed, different animals for warden, etc.

I usually fall down on the side of player choice, so I guess that's why I can see the merit of this idea.

I already paid for it. I paid for the base game. I paid for chapters. I paid for ESO+.

I had the animation I wanted for years, until it was ZOS'd...

Absolutely not! ZOS forced this new jab animation onto us without asking us first.. I refuse to pay for the error that ZOS created. They need to allow us to reverse the animation changes back to the original one FOR FREE.

No. I don't pay for cosmetic changes.

Beside, would that be possible that not everybody has same animation (those who pay, those who don't)? I don't think so.

Nope, new version is better IMO. The problem is that while many people are focused on the motif of the spear they dont like, they are missing the bigger picture that the animation needed to be changed to get it on the global cooldown. That was 100% a good change to get it so you can weave it consistently with other skills. What are you suggesting, that you could pay for a skill that potentially hits harder with a longer channel? No way. Its by definition pay to win.

The damage on the new jabs needs small buff, no question. But we need to stop with the doomsday scenarios about the spear change. Its overall a good change, and templar is still probably the easiest class to play in PVE.

I do think it would be really cool if they gave you control over the motif in the spear in someway, but as priorities go, its pretty low on the list of things they need to address.

The question posed by OP was entirely concerned about the animation. I don’t see any suggestion of buying back the old damage or channel time of the skill, and I’m not sure why we need to drag the implication of P2W into a conversation about cosmetics.

The shortened length is a bit of a red herring. Even though they shortened the animation, the fact remains that one still needs to animation cancel to get the most out of the skill, meaning part of that animation will inevitably be cut off anyhow. That hasn’t changed. How much is cut out is irrelevant when maximizing light attack weaving, since we aren’t going to wait out the animation duration either way. It will change things for those who don’t animation cancel, but even then the shortened length is not justification for changing the animation the way they did, i.e. jab-jab-sweep instead of jab x4 AND the use of a motif AND that motif being Nighthollow. They could simply have shortened the original animation by removing a strike and speeding it up a bit. Instead they chose to redo the animation entirely in a manner completely inconsistent with the class and with other Spear line abilities. It would be so even if a more lore-appropriate motif had been or could be chosen instead, since the other animations do not use a motif at all. They are their own style, one which Jabs/Sweeps no longer resembles in the least.

But the animation was changed to accommodate the duration change. How can you go back to the old animation, which had 4 hits, and reconcile with the new animation and skill that has only 3 hits and shorter duration on live?

Now I get not liking the spear motif they chose, and if that is really all you are talking about, then I dont care what the do with it in the crown store. I have said many times, they should make the spear motif match the motif of you main hand (or chose something completely unique), but thats probably wishful thinking. That said, the animation is more complex than simply what the spear looks like.

I prefer the old animation but wouldn't pay to reinstate it. Changing a basic animation and then charging to reinstate it would set a game/company-breaking precedent. In fairness, I don't believe that ZOS would do it, but then also in fairness their track record this year hasn't been that great.

i will through my money to them if they add old annimation in CrownStore. And why? Cuz they change so many things to worse and no one ask for it... cuz "MAYBE" they give us the option to buy some things we like back. Like templar annimation...

Now they even will let other players HIDE pets from other players... i never understand why in the hell sorcerers have two big dissoraus as pets. I will pay for this too.... Change the size of my pets (if they add that option in Crownstore too)

imaginations is.... well... i will not say it!

And what about this one? for only 40 Gems

    My point is:
What is nice they change it
And then... add this things in crownstore to us to buy....

Just let us buy what we like!

But if they can make a brand new animation, then they can certainly go back to the old and edit it so that it's shorter and only three hits. I think that's the point most people are making; it's not about the length of the channel or how much time the skill takes, it's about how it looks. Would you really be too opposed to having an animation that was similar to the old one but with the new duration?

No but they should definitely change it back to how it was or how it was minus 1 stab. I really really really no not like the new animation. It is my least favorite animation in the whole game by far.
