this event is turning into hell

That's upsetting. I've had really good experiences with pugs this event, ran with 3 guildies and one random at one point in a base game vet. Everyone got on mic and chatted the whole time. Guy rarely ran dungeons but he was even game to go for the hard mode with us. We invited him to our guild after. He told us he probably didn't have the damage but we were just like it's okay, we got you. Held his own pretty well considering it was his first dungeon in weeks and he was only going for the event. Was really fun 😊
I do tend to run with just guildies or check with folks in the dungeon at least as to whether they are farming or not. I also try my best to ask if someone needs the quest before I go bolting off 😂

I'm not happy with the people who queue random vet dungeon who leave on dread cellar, coral aerie, graven deep, earthen root enclave, etc. as soon as they get in and am adding them to my ignore list.

These are not the people I want to queue with and have to find replacements for, there should be some system in place to punish leaves just as there is with any other game.

There kind of is. They have to wait like 10 mins to que again. Only time I dip from a dungeon like that is if I get a trial invite from a guildmate.

Maybe join a guild for premade shenanigans? I bet lots of PvE guilds are promoting in zone at the moment.

Most players are running Eden Hollow dungeon on normal mode multiple times over to get as many boxes as possible.

I just solo Fungal Groto 1 for the tickets.

Go stage 4 vampire, run past everything, kill the goblin leader, run to the water fall, swim to the final boss, kill final boss.

    You can blame ZOS for

[1] requiring 2 DPS, 1 tank, and 1 healer per group, and
[2] gating limited time rewards behind dungeon completion.

Put those two things together, and there are going to be a lot of disappointed and unhappy people.

Requirement #1 applies only if you're using the Group Finder.

But the real reason for my response is because of something Mike Finnigan said during the recent Gamescon in Germany. He was answering people's submitted questions, put to him by Kai Schober, and the issue of designing dungeons that specifically give more things for the two different kinds of DDs came up. I don't remember the exact wording of the question, or whether it was about that particular issue or whether Mike brought up the issue himself when answering the submitted question, but it made me sit up and listen because I hadn't even realized that there are two types of DDs-- or rather, it turned out that I did, but it's something that's mentioned so seldomly that I didn't know that I knew it.

At first I thought he might have meant Magicka DDs versus Stamina DDs-- which actually isn't a bad guess, although not quite right-- but as I was listening to him, he specifically referred to the two types as "ranged" versus "melee." That's when I realized that I already knew about the two types of DDs. (Light bulb lights up. "Oh, yeah-- I forgot that that light is there!") It explains why the Group Finder has two DD slots to fill, but only one Tank and one Healer.

But it also raised more questions in my mind. If there are two slots for DDs, ostensibly one for each type of DD, then why can either type of DD fill the two slots? Do players who are forming their own groups ever pay attention to the two types of DDs, or do they ignore the specific type of DD and expect every DD to be capable of both types of damage? If trials are designed for groups of 12 players, does that mean they're ostensibly designed for 3 Tanks, 3 melee DDs, 3 ranged DDs, and 3 Healers? Are there a lot of dungeons and trials which specifically require both types of DDs-- as well as requiring Tanks and Healers-- or are most dungeons and trials designed so they can be completed by a certain number of players (depending on how capable the players are and what mechanics are involved) regardless of each player's group role (be it real or fake)?

Now to be clear, I think it is generally poor form to just sprint to the end of the dungeon and leave everything alive in your wake, but I dont find that to nearly as prevelant as the forums suggest. I do, however, think its wise to build your self to keep up with a group that is on the move.

My biggest peeve is when everyone skips (and aggros) adds in a section before a door, then proceed to crouch there for 2 minutes like it's some mystery why we can't go through rather than take the 5 seconds to kill the things in the first place.

The good thing is more people are trying to do different roles and hopefully making them better healers and tanks.

For my experience, in this event the sprinting has been worse. The issue for me isn't the speed, it is the lack of control which ends up in a slower run. I have run with tanks who actually tanked where they collect half the dungeon, park them in a corner and we AoE it down in seconds. That's a speed run.

What I have been seeing in this event is one person taking off, usually before all 4 even load, and the trash mobs go everywhere. Then the sprinter stops in the middle of a large room so the ranged trash is spread out so the AoE is hitting a limited number of people and the melee trash are on the DPS and healer. About half the time, the sprinter doesn't even control the boss even if they appeared to be a real tank.

That doesn't speed anything up. Its just a sloppy run which ends up being slower.

I think the fastest Fungal run so far this event was a methodically one with three players, two of which were under level 25. That's the frustrating part - the chaotic sprinting does the opposite of their goal. Just makes a mess.

Update: Of course after I type this ^ I get a Fungal 1 run that was good. But the sprinter drug everything to the door so they piled up for us. That small difference cut a lot of time off the other sprint runs.

I can't tell you how many times this has happened where the runner justifies themselves by calling it a speed run, even though there are mobs running around all over the place and it ends up taking longer than it would if we had simply engaged the groups one at a time. I've even had one particularly long dungeon capped by the sprinter saying 'You're Welcome' before he left the group at the end.

This community (i.e. the forums) seem to go very hard all in on justifying fake tanks and healers. Apparently it’s ok to fake tank and heal because some other players dps is low? I don’t get it myself.

Anyway, I have been avoiding this event because I knew it was going to be awful. I even made a lowbie tank particularly for events like this, but this time I have not bothered loading into him.
Luckily there is really nothing at the event vendors I want (that costume is terrible). So this whole event period feels a bit like I dodged a bullet.

I would actually say that the majority of people are not ok with it. There is a particularly vocal group on the forums that advocate for it occasionally, but when you're talking actual players playing the game that may not even be on the forums, generally it's frowned upon.

Never understood why people get upset with other players who don't live up to their expectations in random dungeons groups. I see players almost throwing tantrums like children. I hate the word "carry". It is incredibly derogatory. Seriously, if anyone thinks they are just too awesome to play with a random team, don't do it. And if they believe they are just too far above it all to help other players with mechanics (mechanics presumably someone at some point taught them), don't go in the dungeon with players you don't know. I am sure players who hate to "carry" players would just be far happier in a nice elitist clique somewhere.

It's not an elitist expectation for other's to carry their weight in a dungeon that they signed up for. If you're not carrying your weight, you are being carried. [snip]

Had 0 issues so far, I fake tanked well over a 100 dungeons since the event started. I have taunt and all major debuffs, I even provide major vuln for bosses. I dont rush ahead of my grp, but if you think I'm gonna wear 2 tank sets with sword and board and ice staff while the 2 "dps" players are doing 20% of the groups damage together, then you are crazy.

Yeah, you're missing the concept of fake tanking, my man. Expectations are so low at this point that I would pay for someone with a taunt and a couple of debuffs.

Any other time, I'd feel a little sympathy for a new player trying to learn dungeon mechs with a speed running group. This is an event though, so it's not the appropriate time to take a nice leisurely roleplay stroll through 4 person content. Just go along with it for the week and maybe learn a new way of playing. It's actually fun if you're not so married to the idea of crawling through there.
