Maybe they're using timezones from where the servers actually are physically located which might be the fairest way to do it!
And here I thought the EU servers were located in Germany. If that was the logic being employed, then it should have Central Daylight Time (NA, Texas) and Central (EU, Germany) time zones. Instead, I would suggest that it's more likely to be the time zone where ZOS is headquartered in Hunt Valley, Maryland (EDT).

As I understand it that (patch) maintenance on the EU servers is done remotely from ZOS offices in Maryland, USA.
Of course quite a few of those involved may well be working from home these days, but I'm sure they'll still be on the Eastern Seaboard.

I have a second clock set up to display UTC. Auto displays when I click on the "calendar corner" in Windows. Simple. Don't know if you can do that on console, as I've never owned (or wanted to own) one.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know you could do this in Windows and have now set up a UTC clock that displays when I click on the taskbar clock :D

I've been using windows since 3.0 - lots of stuff I've learned (and even forgotten myself!) over all these years. The clock thing was SUPER helpful when family was living in Europe years back.

Timezones are plentiful. They also change, not always just during summer and winter time, and since people seem to be unaware, not every country changes to summer or winter time on the same date.

'Just remember it' is prone to mishaps, whereas many people are already well aware of their UTC offset on a given date - and if you're not, learn it. It's the time standard for a reason and it greatly simplifies international interaction.

And it really is an easy convenience for ZOS to provide. Thank you, Gina. :)

You should make announcements in a EU-friendly timezone (CET/CEST) instead of UTC.

UTC is sufficient as it is universal by definition.

It's almost like they don't care about their EU players (who are currently missing Prime Time)

Meanwhile in Oceania, where we don't even get a server, and every single maintenance runs during the entirety of evening/nightime prime time...

If you select "4pm EDT", then right click and search it should tell you what time is in your current timezone.

Is it not easier for the one person making the announcement to include information that is relevant to the WHOLE playerbase instead of just the part they actually care about?

The European player base is spread out over several time zones. I have to look up UTC just as I have to look up EDT.

Not to mention the rest of the world who have their own time zones!

Why don't we have AEST too for east coast Australia??? Why don't we list all the timezones?

Given ZOS is located in Hunt Valley, Maryland, that places them in the EST/EDT time zone. As such they default to EST/EDT as a matter of habit. Should they overlook UTC in future announcements it's simple to add 4/5 hours as applicable for UTC.

That being said, after a lifetime in the military, I'm used to doing time conversions to UTC (or ZULU). Doing the conversion is somewhat automatic for me.

And we miss day 1 of any event unless we get home from work before 4pm.
