ZOS : U35 - question about HA builds problems

Greetings.

Lighting staff's heavy attack has lost one tick of heavy attack. This highly reduced the usefulness of HA sets, even though empower became 80%. Even before, HA sets because of not the best DPS characteristics were conciding meta sets, however thanks to Maelstrom weapon, which buffs the HA damage of the lightening staff more, they could compete with them on HA of Lighting staff.
With the current changes HA builds lose a lot of damage.

Considering that there's no information in the patch notes about removing ticks by HA lightening staff — and that the rest weapons (as example bow or 2 handed) HA + spam can do more damage than lightning staffs: almost the same like LA + spam, the loss 1 from 4 ticks would reduce the damage about 25% from our sets, that already were worse than META sets.

From this we came to conclusion that this is a bug and in addition there's nowhere written about such change.

Can you pls give us some information about this ?

The same time: sets like Undaunted Infiltrator looks very bad now. It has very bad DPS stats and low add to HA damage. It is worse than META sets in DPS part and it is PVE only.
This make such sets useless, because it is no reason to use such sets even on HA of lightning staffs, because META sets just give more PVE and PVP damage.

And on LA such sets are even more useless.

We are happy, that on current moment players can do good damage on different weapons, but we are saddened - that lightning staffs get a lot of nerfs. It is not good on LA attacks, now it is not the best choise in HA attacks. We want it to be a little better at least on HA than it is now because of this.

The reason two handed is doing more damage is because it requires you to be close to the boss and that adds a bit of risk, it is the same with non HA builds where the melee weapons also increase your dps more than any bow/staff.
In the case of Resto staffs iirc they got nerfed pretty bad on week 5 of the pts and should be at least comparable if not inferior to lightning staff.

Bow has the same more damage ;) And lightning staff users can not do LA the same effective as any other weapons user.

So if HA damage of lightning staves will be compared to 2 handed whyle LA damage with lightning staffs will be less than with 2 handed - I do not think it would be not fair change. The same time 2 handed damage will be more because LA rotation gives more damage than HA rotation.

The same time information about lightning staffs lose 1 HA tick do not exist in patch notes. It hits our damage scale from some sets. And such HA feels worse. We hope it is a bug. It was not announced on PTS or live server patch notes.

Thats why we need some answer from ZOS about this problem.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to get at, you can LA weave just fine with lightning staff also lightning has cleave at range which is an amazing perk, it has the full benefit of empower with it being a channel. Also I doubt it's a big, several things got left out of the patch notes not just that.

I am really sorry for my obsession, but I really need to get information about this.

Heavy Attack of lightning staffs lose 1 HA tick. It was 4 hits (3+finall) during HA attack before and now it is 3 hits (2+finall).

There is no such change in Patch Notes to U35 PTS or to current Live.

Is it a bug or such change was planned ?

Each hit of HA is very important for our sets scaling. So with rework of Maelstorm Weapon and current changes we lose a lot of damage on our builds.

Can you please give us some information about this change ? Is it a bug or was it planned like this ?
Because we do not expect to get some thing like this, it was not announced in any patch notes. And now we need to understand what to do with this changes. How to adapt to it. Do we need change our sets for better sets or it is a bug and it will be fixed ? Even in patch before this one - our sets was already worse than meta sets. With current changes - we can get noticeably more numbers with other weapons and on different sets. Are our old builds dead now ? Do we need to change our gear again ?

ZOS - we really need an answer from you.

    Hello again.
    Sorry for my annoyingness.
But I really need an information:

There is no such change in Patch Notes to U35 PTS or to current Live.

Such change do HA lightning staffs builds and sets to much underperforming to others. We test and we see more damage on HA of different weapons in META gear.

Now HA can be avoided, LA on lightning staffs do less damage and even HA do less damage. Lightning staffs become underperforming in all possible aspects.

Can we atleast get information - is it a bug or not ? Does it work now as it has to work or is it a bug ?
Because there is no such information in patch notes about this change.

In PvE, you can still have a decent heavy attack setup despite the lost tick. ZOS is nore than likely aware of the lost tick, since it was mentioned on the PTS forums.

Since you play on PC, I highly recommend downloading the PTS and testing out the various heavy attack related sets till you find something that works for you. Then on live, you can focus on farming any new gear that you might need.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Since you play on PC, I highly recommend downloading the PTS and testing out the various heavy attack related sets till you find something that works for you. Then on live, you can focus on farming any new gear that you might need.

We plays on HA of lightning staffs about 6 years already. And we are very knowledgeable in this stuff. We not only test it on PTS, we even do not need to do it, because we have all these sets on live in gold quality ;)

The same time some HA players wrote about current and some more bugs during PTS, but no official answer was made about this problem.

Is it a bug or not ? If it is not a bug, why no information was given in patch notes about this problem to HA players ?

(And a little off topic. You have cool avatar near nick name as some other players. How did you set it ? What is needed for that ?)

I understand that ZOS lack of response can be frustrating, but they probably/hopefully will be answered during the Q&A that they plan on doing.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).

When will be this Q&A - what is it and how do it look like ? Some twitch video ?

It is good, that it will be such thing too.

But we would be just happy, if they just say:

    Yes, it is a bug.
Or - No. It was planned like this.

Because it removes some uncertainty. Even if it is bad information, it is better then nothing.

We get a lot of nerfs for all this times, we do not ask some body about some thing. We just play and do not care a lot. But with all this constant changes for last 3 years and nerfs to our builds - it already becomes unnerving.

We do not like to change skills, sets, rotations and etc each update. We want changes stop already. And if it would be at least some thing, that will not be changed next 2-3 years it would be great !

The same time we like our builds we played a long time. We do not like to see it overnerfed or changed a lot of times. We do not like to see changes of sets, weapons, mechanics we use and etc. changed each update.

If only option in this game is light attacking with a stick - just tell about it !

Because this game has a lot of different sets, weapons and etc.

If it will be nerfed each time we use it - we better wait for some more stable balance and will not do anything. We like to do and play in highly engeneered builds. We do not want to spend our time, if it get nerfs each time.

it's even worse for people who are not using heavy attack builds the damage nerf this patch was atrocious. But as I said before, unlikely to be a bug, they probably just left it out to avoid any outcry just like with some other stuff like the nerf to caluurion.

If it was changed and it is not written in patch notes - it is already a bug.

If some thing do not work like it is written in project documentation - it is bug.

Of project or/and documentation, with no other option ;)

This patch other builds can do HA with more proffit. The most DPS problem becomes new rotation. With very big difference in timers it becomes really ugly.

10/14/15/18/20/24/35 seconds skills feels really bad. It do not help to make the game more accessible.

Some sets was broken, as example maelstorm staff works strange. New templars jabs - proc azurblight 3 times per cast - so it is not direct damage ? But it is white colour (direct). The same time lightning HA proc it with first ticks and do not proc with last. (both channeled with jabs)

DK whip do not work like mana skill - sets like Undaunted Infiltrator - do not see that it is mana skill.

A lot of mistakes was made, but a lot of them was on PTS patch one, so ... .

If atleast with maelstorm weapons ground aoe was about 20/24 seconds like dots are - it already would be much simpler to rotate for a lot of people, so for them it would not be so big DPS drop.
(It activates enchant and with arena weapon is big dps source the same time, so for new players it is big lose if they lose uptime of it)

I have a question- does heavy attack for lightning still take the same duration, or does a tick being removed mean you can have the final hit much faster? Wouldn't this be a buff as you get more resources back for time spent?

It do not really look like it becomes faster. On the same rotation as before it looks like it just lose 1 hit. Even if it changed in time - in rotation it do not feels like it changed.

The same time just 1 little test example some our players did on first days of live U35 :
    uo6vha3bzuqh.jpeg

Test was made on character with no attack CP and low attack stats with empower buff. For more simple calculations.

Most important thing is difference between LA and HA damage on same weapons.

The idea is very simple. HA builds use combination of HA+spammable as main source of spam damage. With out maelstorm stuff that gives more to HA than to LA - damage from HA drops.

You spam DOTS with LA, other time you spam HA+spam.

HA sets gives you less than top proc sets and have bad stats. So your part on LA+dot gives less damage than standart builds.

The same time if even HA part+spammable gives you less than other weapons - you damage is much less than other builds.

It is not hard to understand that not HA build can do more damage now with HA , than HA build, that can not do anything else ;) And was most effective only on HA. LA on it do less damage, skills are less effective, and HA are the same less effective now.
Including nerfs to PVP that HA can be dodged and you can not buff it with skills - lightning staff becomes useless, because you have better analogues to the same build even on just do HA on META sets.

The same thing kind of happened back when Morrowind came out. The double impact sound of dual wield heavy attacks was removed without any info on it. I made tickets and threads but no reply. So I guess they wont adress this either....

ZOS, can you please tell US ? We have standartizations now ? How did it happen that lightning staff HA + spammable do 20% less damage on our tests that the same with other weapons ? And 20% less than LA+spammable ?
(with no special sets that are underperforming to current META sets too)

How did 1 hit of lightning staffs HA dissapear with no trace in patch notes ?
I am not may be an expert, but ... do not it feels a little strange for you ?

Was it planned like that or ... ?
Can you tell us at least some thing please ?

We look on such changes like this:

    ztcydwcfk5s9.gif

We do not understand it at all, OK, if it was planned like this, how the hell it is "better for us" ? Or it is just a mistake that some times happen?

Can you pls say some thing to us ?
    2 weeks pass ... .
And 2 weeks + one month, when players first start to say about such problem.

We do not ask about "fix it immediately", but can you at least say some thing about ... what is it ? ))) How did this happen? How is it
more standart like this ? )))

Why lightning staffs are so underperforming this patch ?
(They were not the best choise even before - so not a lot of players use it, it was not best possible DPS choice and I do not think, that it have to be, but ... current version looks really "strange", if not to say - really bad).

Can all weapons pls just be useful with not such underperforming difference ?
(Can all weapons be good ?)

May be it is not the best thing to show statistics, but Lightning staffs already were underperforming. With current update it becomes even more underperforming !

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/616941/what-is-the-best-weapon-for-dps-in-dunguans-and-trials

Some builds was viable, but this builds lose a lot of damage now. We feel a lot of damage lose this patch.

From HA change, from reworking Maelstorm Staff, from sets - that are worse than meta analogues. Even with new empower - we do less damage than before. With change that HA lose 1 hit, that even was not announced in patch notes and is not announced even now !

Some our sets and skills become PVE only.
    HA is possible to dodge.
Lightning staffs are not top DPS weapon.

Even Ice staff was reworked for DDs, it was tanks weapon.

Why lightning staffs are so underperforming ?

Can you pls give some information about it ?

I do not want to be annoying, but current problem still exist.

Was it mistake in patch notes (that you did not wright about this change) and such change was planned or it is just a code error ?

It is change of core game mechanics how lightning staffs work, so It is really important for us to get an answer ... .

So, just asking the obvious, you did file a bug report, right? That is the appropriate thing to do.

A few patches ago for some reason the Bosmer female run animation was changed to something utterly revolting. Certain players said it looked like they had a full diaper. I reported it in game within minutes. A few days later I reported it requesting a response (using the option in game) and I did eventually get a response saying they were aware of it and planned to address it in a future release.

It took a month for the animation to be fixed. I did not play at all during that time.

I do understand how you feel. I sympathize. I felt the same, but I think they have your report now and they understand that the change is important to you. They are likely addressing a lot of things other players feel really strongly about too.

PS. You could consider changing the title of your thread to make the problem more eye-catching though. "Horrible Lightning Staff Bug" or something.

Even with the loss of a tick of damage from lightning staff HA, I'm finding that my HA build still melts everything. My group is actually running all HA/HA synergy sets (Seargants, Infal, Rage of the Ursauk, and Grave Inevitablity, and looking to add Roaring Opportunist to this mix) and literally, millions of hp from the boss just melts off of them.

My brother and I are really enjoying a lightning ha build using sergeants, storm master/noble duelist. We are doing way more dps than when we used 2h setups. And this is an oakrnsoul setup. I enjoy it! Which means it'll get nerfed...prob...
