Soft Ban For Family Playing On Same IP

We are playing as a family of 4 with separate accounts, but we are all on the same internet connection. Tonight after running White Tower, trying some PVP and then going to my house we suddenly discovered we could not trade, send mail or access the guild store. We can still chat. We don't have any crazy addons and have done nothing wrong. The only thing I can think of is because we are all on the same internet in the same house. We have spent quite a bit of money at the store and are all on ESO+, but now we can't enjoy the game.....

You guys have a social ban, which normally happens if you send a bunch of mail to people, though THAT usually only happens with people using addons to mass-send mail. It can trigger an auto social ban because it gets flagged as spam. Are you guys in a trade guild sending a lot of mail? I think you can also get a social ban if your account just gets reported as spamming, though I'm not sure if that's an auto one or one out on you by a person.

No we are not in a trade guild. A couple of us sent some stuff to each other to deconstruct, but I wouldn't call it a lot of mail. We don't use mass send addons (didn't know they existed). Also I haven't sent any mail at all to anyone.

The same exact thing happened to my son and my grandkids. When they all were playing together, they would eventually get the social ban. It happened several times and was very frustrating when we all tried to play together as a family.

Best to create guilds on each account, and have friends or others join, and unlock the guildbanks at 10 people joining. You'll get 500 slots each guild, and set it up to allow certain ppl to have access to the items.Makes it less of a problem when transfering items and gold to other accounts.Remember, huge amounts of gold and crown transfers in a short time can also get you banned temporarily or permanently.

I did this for my family, creating a family member only guild. There are only five of us at the moment, so unfortunately, we don't have a guild bank.

I've had this happen as well. It was tied to running a dungeon together, not to high volumes of mail, trading or any such social interaction. Support was gracious and fixed the issue in just a few days. However, we've been reluctant to run dungeons together since.

I'm guessing that this has something to do with ZOS trying to make it difficult for people to run bots. If someone is running multiple bot accounts from the same location/ same IP and all bots logged in at the same time, then having an automated process give all those accounts a social ban would make the bot owner stop until they found a work around. I'm not posting what I think would be a work around because I like playing ESO.

Of course, unless ZOS tells us why this is happening, we won't really know.

It seems to be often the case that social bans result from performance issues, with a lot of commands being lagged and suddenly hitting the server in one go, which the game interprets as spamming. I guess a similar effect could arise if 4 players in the same house are all playing through one internet connection with, therefore, the same IP address. Either that could be causing lagged inputs or merely the number of inputs from 4 players could create the same effect and result in the game thinking spamming is occurring.

Try checking with your ISP to see if they can assign different IPs to a couple of your machines. I don't know if that's possible now (it used to be years and years ago) and I don't have the issue as only I play games in my household. But you could at least ask.

Also.... maybe look into VPNs to see if that could help? Of course, those aren't usually free (but separate IPs might not be either) - there are free ones but friends who have "graduated" from the free to paid ones tell me they're very iffy.

Yeah. AFAIK, they have not even acknowledged formally that it is a thing.

It appears to be just a standard run-of-the-mill "guilty until successfully appealed" system. Such systems, if this is an example of one, are based on the concept that the innocent will be able to successfully appeal, so anyone who does not is guilty. Open a ticket, get it reviewed, problem solved. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not a ban due to IP. Afaik ,they have mac auth which is why you go through a security check if you log in from a diff machine on the network that has not been used before.

Also, while you have the same external IP you don't have the same IP, as you have your own internal range too provided by a switch or router.

So, yes and no. If you want me to explain exactly how this works, I can, but it is 1:31am.

But they may simply ban based on same internet IP, multiple machines. That condition may in fact be the basis for suspension.

There are multiple things that are screened against. Someone logging in on your account from a different computer is one (MAC address check), different IP address than what they usually expect-especially from different regions (IP check), or multiple machines from same IP, ie. gold farmers.

Considering it was a social ban which disallows buying, selling, mailing or communication I am guessing it was the gold-selling algorithm that got tripped. Sucks when you are a family just looking to play together.

Hey folks welcome to my world lol.
Social bans are nothing to worry about. Ive had them for as long as I've been playing.
I play with my wife and 3 kids and we get these a few times a year.
It seemed in previous years trials triggered them more frequently then anything else. At one stage so bad I stopped doing them. Had 4 crafting accts during the last jubilee get social bans as well.
Make sure your addons are up to date especially the combat ones.
All you can do is in game ticket support and ask the to remove it. It usually takes anywhere from 12 -48hours depending on the day and time.

This is no reason to panic or stop playing with your family. Enjoy the time you can play together.
    Good hunting.

I can't believe this is still a problem. I know personally of two friends of mine and their son who finally quit ESO altogether because they kept getting softbans because of playing from the same IP, but they all had separate accounts. This was over a year and a half ago, at least. I just can't understand how @ZOS_RichLambert can let this continue, losing customers, because of some stupid anti-bot algorithm that is obviously broken.

As far as families playing together, it happens probably more than you think. Both the wife and myself have been here since beta. My sister-in-law plays quite a bit, my brother-in-law plays once in awhile. So I guess you can call us a ESO family :)

This is sad because there are so many bots on PS NA now. Most of them seem to have Ring of the Wild Hunt too. Level 3 guys in Craglorn with long auto-generated names taking nodes from in front of me as I raise the pick or axe. Why can’t they do something about them and leave normal players alone?
