Quote taken from PTS Patch Notes v8.0.3:
"Added a new "Minimal" setting for Companion Reactions, under the General section of Gameplay settings, which further reduces the likelihood for Companions to verbally respond to your actions."

Getting closer and closer to having the companions silent! lol
Thank you ZOS for this change! Keep it coming!

the problem with these options is they dont actually define how often companions respond

to me personally "minimal" and "infrequent" more or less mean the same thing because they are not quantified lol

you would think it would have been easy for them to implement the "silent" option lol

A step in the right direction.

Now we just need a 'please shut up Bastian' option.

Some NPCs need it too - especially the ones that jump out at you.

This one sent Spiny Tim to do some crafting surveys in Stonefalls the other day.

An NPC jumped him at the wayshrine and said "Help, Help us".

Tim said "I can't right now as I am doing my crafting surveys for Cat Mommy".

Then another NPC screamed "All of them!".

Tim took that as a sign and made sure he got all of the surveys done that morning.

I think companions would be better if they had a wider variety of comments and it wouldn't seem so tedious if they did. Mine are set to infrequent, and that's been fine with me as I do still appreciate the occasional "For Glory" from Bastion. Makes going into battle feel more adventurous, but I would hate it to hear that, or any other comment, every time. A wider range of voice lines would take out the repetitiveness.

Seems like I'm in the minority here but I've Mirri set to default since Blackwood was first introduced, play with her every day and am happy with both the comments and frequency. Sure, a bigger variety would be nice but I like her better than any vanilla companion in Skyrim (Serana, Mjoll, I'm lookin' at you).

they have a variety of lines, but only a small variance

like they have separate lines for when your low on mag, low on stam, low health, receive healing, you performing ultimate, getting snared or immobilized, and when you get cc'd

but they only have a variety of like 1-3 different lines for each of these different occurrences, and even on the infrequent dialog setting it becomes very repetitive

The 2 companions we get in the High Isle chapter are supposed to have more variety than Mirri and Bastian.
A dev said so in a stream… one of those streams… probably the one where they were all sitting down talking to each other about High Isle… like we were eavesdropping on them or something… so odd. I felt like the “3rd wheel”. lol

    What? No, no, no, no.

I want my beloved Mirri to comment on my every move, want her to nag when I am idling for a mere moment, she will be like a wake up call from an angel, a dark angel at that. Because she is a darkelf, lel.

Totally agree. I really like hearing them talk, I just don't appreciate hearing the same things all the time.

I also think their "combat tips" should be toggleable. It's really irritating to hear them for the thousandth time when you know what you're doing, and especially when you know what you're doing but dying anyway.

Heh, I've actually been cued enough times by Mirri to drink a magicka potion that I now rely on her to remind me. :)

I do admit that her other combat tips like "Roll if you can!" or "Keep moving!" are not helpful.

I want them to factor in what's been going on. Mirri talking about chilling out at the inn annoys me when I've just logged in. In game, we just left the inn and now it is time to kill stuffl and get gold.

I will appreciate less chatter. Although its amusing when Bastian shouts, 'Sheath your weapons the fight is won' as the Dragon I am fighting circles around to strafe fire on all of us!

I'm happy for the folks who appreciate this change. For me, personally, after Stuga and "Dragons in my Homeland" and "What? Haven't you ever seen a wood elf before?" I've become an expert at tuning out repetitive dialogue. The companion's comments don't cause me any bother.

I would prefer that they work on improving the companions in combat - maybe tweak the abilities that don't translate well to NPCs - and let us deconstruct companion gear, or let the companions hold their own extra gear, or something else to improve the QoL drop we now have with inventory due to using them and getting gear drops. And add an in-game toggle for interacting with them so they aren't so much in the way.

But that's just me. Maybe we can get some of that stuff next time around. :)

Has to take my Bosmer to Mornholm and see if she get that response. On an Khajiit after playing trough 3.5 Bosmer zones yes this one has seen more Bosmers than she wanted
Grinding just make you go in circles.

Some comments are just dumb. I go to Mournhold very often, for crafting dailies and I use the inn room a lot because it has a merchant just outside the door. And just about every time Mirri tells me she's been wanting to visit here...

My pet peeve is with treasure chests and Bastion telling my I have "a knack for stumbling across those things" when we have literally been following a treasure map to find it!
