You can view GPU temperature in Task Manager - Performance (GPU) tab: https://i.imgur.com/qqVhAyc.png
My result: https://i.imgur.com/scZBqcY.jpg , though it is very cool, i dont mind if it was more hot.

80 was the hottest I have ever noticed (big PvP fight or 40+ people on a world boss / dragon spamming abilities & melting the boss.

For the most part it stays around 60.

GPU: RTX 2080 TI gaming x trio, playing in 4k(60 FPS). With aircooling, always between 54-58 degrees. I made sure it does not hit the 60 degrees, so the GPU won't draw much power.

For some reason only during loadingscreens my GPU jumps up to 60 degrees, and only does this with specific ESO updates. ZOS should really code this better.

PS: Both out of game, and in-game, my FPS is capped to 60. My monitor's max.
PPS: I would get worried if my GPU would go above 66 degrees. In that case my settings would be much too high, or something is seriously broken. Either way, it would be bad for the GPU to run that hot, especially for long timeperiods.
PPPS: I restart my PC after every playing session, after slowly letting my GPU cool itself down to idle temp.

Until some time ago, I had a big issue with this, and it ran up to 96.8 :s Even in the login screen it'd heat up to 90 degrees. Which was really weird to me. Capping the fps to 144 - my screens max - with the addon advanced game settings (big thanks to the maker btw), helped a bit on the login screen temperature. But GPU temperature was still about 92 while playing, which is still too hot if you want your GPU to last. I then installed some more case fans, without it helping more than a few degrees. It was also worth noting that my cpu has one of the best coolers, and did not get above 50 while the gpu ran at 90 degrees.
Next in line I figured that the fan curve on my gpu wasn't steep enough. But adjusting it didn't help. Then I found out that the program responsible for the adjusted fan curve didn't start automatically (unlike the cpu one which is adjusted in bios). Making the program controlling gpu fans start with the computer, meant that the gpu fans finally started doing their job proper, and that helped another few degrees.
But, the real problem was finally found when I opened up my graphics card to take a look at whether the cooling paste was properly distributed. It was not, and when I saw the job some moron had done on my poor gpu, it was my face that got a steep temperature increase. Msi, who made the card (msi gainward geforce rtx 2080 triple 8gb gddr6 ) have done a disgraceful job on applying cooling paste. There was too much smeared in a lot of places where there should be none, and little to nothing where it should actually be. So two hours of careful cleaning, reapplying properly and reassembly, and it suddenly ran eso at 60 degrees, with every setting completely maxed, while running a movie on my secondary monitor. - whew!

Also I hope this essay can inspire someone who also has gpu temperature issues to take measures to help alleviate the problem. If needed I can write a less angry guide in bulletpoints to make it more accessible than above.

@WiseSky yeah I was quite shocked when I opened hardware monitor and checked it. That was a bit of a wtf moment.
It was never at 100 degrees though, but did consistently run between 92-96.5 degrees.
It's actually probably run that hot while playing eso for more than a year. What do you think the damage to a card is for that?
I certainly worry. And I'm quite frustrated with myself for not keeping proper track

I've played ESO on both 1440p and 4k Ultra settings with 3 different video cards in 2 different PC cases.

    1440p Ultra
    • 1080 ti, NZXT H210i - 83c constant (throttled gpu)

50-60 BUT, there are some instances where it rises to mid-70's - often in areas with multiple players ( 4+ ) and many special effects occurring. Vet dungeons , any trials are a hardware safety concern.

Also, sometimes just standing in a location may cause a steady rise in temp for no apparent reason other than bad coding

70+ is troublesome, registers as RED on my Speccy display

There can be pretty massive difference, especially on these newer cards with DDR6, between Core temp and Memory Temps on GPUs. If you are just looking at something like MSI Afterburner, its giving Core Temp. I rarely see that get much above 50 C, no matter what I do. That is a ASUS Strix 3080TI air-cooled. I actually recently had a fan go out, and have been considering using it as an excuse to get a water block and liquid cool it.

That is pretty typical when I mine (typically, I mine Eth when not gaming, basically buys me a new rig every 2 years). My GPU memory temps get much hotter, 80s or even low 90s. DDR6 is rated to run hotter than that, but it admittedly shocked me the first time I saw it.

If I recall right. It's mostly laptop's running hot in last posting about this.

Someone noticed ESO compared to other games was giving off more heat.

I know ESO for me ran at 89 before I got a cooling fan. I also replaced the thermal paste for more popular gaming paste

My thoughts are game heats up over time. More data is needed though

60-70 usually under heavier loads like dragon fights, multiple ppl, lots of fx, etc.

What has been troubling me is the CPU temp 70-80+ but only shows about 16% - 20% load :/
I do not have MT rendering turned on.
I bought this gaming LT during the holidays last year so its def not an age thing.
Even tho its under warranty yet I'm fighting the urge to open it up and check the thermal paste.
CPU should not be that bloody hot.

Its either overclocked, or voltage is messed up. CPUs usually need up to 1.2 volts at load for 4 ghz.

It all comes down to area and what you are doing, I can sometimes get 49 in some areas 50 in others even doing land boos fights, but others slightly over 60 so 50-60 is normally what it is at most of the time no matter what.

Also depends on how long I am in the game and if I am watching videos at the same time. I normallly watch shows while playing the game
