You mean like this? You simply hit M. This is an alt on this account who does not have all quests/skyshards etc on this zone. My main however does. As you can see the alt displays what he has not accomplished. Use the Start Story button to find out where the quest starts or where you left off.
Achievements are a broad term though. If you mean Dungeon based ones, if you only have two characters the one that has completed on it should have that character name on it. I would assume the other did not do it then.

The easiest way to know if you have is look if you have picked up the Skyshard yet.

Zone guide doesn't help with Orsinium being rebuilt and our alts will never get to see the rebuilding.
Zone guide will not replace the things we lost due to ZoS sticking it's head in the ground and ignoring what a horrible idea AwA was.
But it was to save data! So they add 100's of NEW achievements, almost 50 with just the card game, with new updates.
Sorry, give me back my replayability, not more achievements.

That would be a nice QoL for questers.
How do you know what stage of the quest you are on?
It is more difficult to know but not impossible. Open the zone guide or ride around and look for arrows.
The character based journal we had before was great wasn't it?

If you mean character based achievements which were found in the journal, yes that was great, and it used to help me greatly in figuring out what I still needed to do. I keep forgetting how to open the zone guide as I don't see an icon for it and have to hunt and peck for it. Plus I've only been playing PTS so mainly been testing the new content and since all of that is new, I can still rely on the map and achievements for that zone.
If the zone guide is so good at tracking all these things, why don't they just update the map to continue to track these things also instead of auto completing them? The answer is they didn't have time to decouple everything from achievements, but few are happy with the way achievements auto fill in parts of the map, and dev time really should be put in to fixing the map for our alts so it makes sense again.

Zone guide tells you what skyshards you've collected and what you've got left. Zone guide tells you what delves you've completed and what you've got left. It tells you what wayshrines you've found what dolmens you've done, which of the region's point of interest quests you've still got to do... etc. It literally tells this stuff.

Wrong. Totally wrong. Beyond useless.
Yes to skyshards. But if delves done on another character, shows as done.
Same with dolmens.
Points of Interest? Over view shows as incomplete but list all ticked off if done on another character.
Zone guide does NOT help. [snip]

I've made a few spreadsheets to track what's important to me with regards to completion of "challenges" in the game.
Certainly a far cry from the system we had. I would have thought self-tracking of those things were gone once we got to the modern era of gaming. Certainly never thought it'd be removed from a game after already being implemented.

Had you read the comment, you would have seen that the "'facepalm' respond to people's comments" was literally me facepalming my own behaviour for not seeing that actually, it does in fact tell you where to start or continue the quests in a zone. I also called myself an idiot in the same comment: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/7586238/#Comment_7586238

Is there an easy way to see this now?
Since achievements are account-wide now, I am kinda strugging to figure out where in the story my Necro is compared to my Nightblade, for example.

That was not clear. Especially as you were saying that the zone guide tells you things when actually it does not.

For stories you can check their quest journal. Unless for some reason you completed one quest, then left the area before picking up the next one, and did that so long ago you don't remember where they got up to.
I've done this many times, and I'm sure I have alts that I have no clue where they left off. A more robust quest journal which actually shows what you finished would alleviate that.
I personally think AWA is great, but just like with anything, it should be a toggleable option so players have a choice to use it or not.
I think the biggest negative like previous comments was implementation. It’s currently very buggy and screws with map completion a little too much for new characters, but just like anything it’ll be perfected and fleshed out over the next year or more

All quest's are marked done, Delv bosses marked done. Rare Fish all done.
Yea, zone guide does not get around that AwA ruined replayablity.

That images has you at 0/10 on the main quest 0/19 on the side quests. Under map completion those icons are from top left main quest, wayshrine, delve, side quest, point of interest, crafting station, mundus stone, public dungeon, world event, world boss, skyshard, mage guild lore books.
The only pre-completed items are the delve, world event, and bosses.
