I saw this video yesterday and now everything makes sense to me, I'm a nightblade and sometimes I come close to someone (using cloak) who was just standing and they will hold block for no reason or start looking for me. This addon tells you when someone is around you even if they're hidden and it should be banned. Here's a video by Dr Ganknstein.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt7pNxiPDJI

Yeaah... people hold block when there is a risk of getting bombed or ganked. I see it often when turning resources for example. I just spam flares to avoid that. Has nothing to do with us "knowing" that anyone is near, it is just plain old paranoia knowing that we could be bombed at any time. It would be stupid not to be prepared for that eventuality.

I have mixed feelings about Miats.. first off there are some cheating builds out there that people are taking advantage of.. even to this day.... yes I'm talking about the heavy attack cheat builds that haven't been dealt with by ZOS... People are stealthing up, using Blood Frenzy to increase their weapon/spell damage... and just heavy attacks unexpecting people killing them instantly.

If Miats can help me to detect these people who are using these cheese builds.. especially in IC where people are farming for telvar... I don't consider it cheating.

For those who don't know what the heavy attack cheating builds look like... check this video out
    https://youtu.be/HGWrCOIoIrY

Once you watch this video.. you may change your perspective... I feel that Miats helps fight against these types of builds by alerting the player to potentials cheaters.

Is that cheating though? Or is it just "working as intended"? :/

Imbalanced as heck though, I will agree.

It's not a cheating build, you need to stop calling it that. I get that you think that it is too powerful and of course that can always be debated as with a lot of other stuff in this game, I personally do not think it is. And you can absolutely make a build that can survive that kind of damage, so you can just go make such a build. Resistance and hp is not the only damage mitigation you know.

You want to be able to run around out in the open fully exposed expecting that these hard hitters wont target you. Of course they will.

And people wonder why IC is dead. :s

All add ons should be removed as they also can trivialize pve mechanics. Wow has the same issue.

Zos just needs to up its ui customization game to compensate.

So you want to erase tons of QoL improvements and wait for changes that will never come, or, at best, once in a blue moon. No thanks mate.

I see many good and valid points about this but it all comes to one thing. If I'm cloaked and you didn't use any skill or potion to detect me you shouldn't know I'm there. It's unfair and I have no counter to it.

I still think much of what you see as cheats are just simple paranoia. When I cast Flares or back of from the center of a flag it isn't because I "know" that there is a sneaker around, it is because I DON'T know if there is one. Paranoia and caution. I have been bombed and ganked enough times to learn caution. And I still get hit every so often, despite my cautious demeanor.

ZOS: We're going to let people write addons for the game to add whatever fun stuff they come up with, and also the stuff we don't feel like implementing directly

Some group of people: Literally ALL addons are cheating, even if they're just minor quality of life ones

I'd like to ask people who think addons are cheating, what about the addon functions that have been added to the base game over the years? Mass crafting and decon, are those still cheating? Combat numbers and buff/debuff trackers, are those still cheating? Or is it only cheating because you don't like addons? And addons that let you easily port to non-primary houses or save your furniture layout, are those cheating? HOW are they cheating?

How is it cheating to know right where Treasure Map Chests or Survey nodes are? How is it cheating to save yourself time going right to something instead of running around trying to figure out where the things have spawned? How is not wasting time manually looking for Skyshards or Lorebooks cheating? How is not wasting your time doing solo PvE stuff that affects no one but yourself cheating?

Now for PvP, that's a different matter, yes. Anything that tells you when you're being targeted before you're hit, or shows you that there are hidden characters or whatever, that sort of thing should be disabled in the API, but only if ZOS can find a way to differentiate between PvP and PvE. If they can't, then disabling features for PvP can end up breaking things for PvE, and not just in the way of addons, but the game itself.

As for the Heavy Attack builds, those aren't cheating OR exploiting. Overperforming is NOT cheating or exploiting. It would only be cheating or exploiting if people were making use of specific actions that are having clearly unintended effects and boosting their damage output a lot. Which is to say, making use of specific sets and skills/mechanics alone and normally triggering their effects at an opportune time to get massive burst isn't cheating or exploiting.

Cheesy as hell, yes, frustrating and with little counterplay for most people, 1000%. And when that happens enough times and enough people bring up how overtuned certain combos are, that's (generally) when ZOS will step in and beat the life out of whichever set/skill is being used with their nerf wrecking ball (a nerf bat doesn't impose nearly enough sweeping nerfs, after all).

The first time I stepped foot in IC with a group....this is the first thing I was "taught". My group informed me...as did a really nice "enemy" player who sent me a tell explaining to do this and why....after they very easily killed me dead.

I hope people that think this aren't also the ones complaining about "tower humpers" lol. In all seriousness LOS is the most OP mitigation and tab target is literally one of the few tools you have.

Apparently you and the game rate plenty of players differently. Prime time NA:

Imagine the addon's that are private...
If a free one could get this bad.

I agree addons should be disabled on pvp.

However in my opinion, There should be a sound , a smooth one that people can hear when stealthed enemies are nearby.

Wonder how ball groups will take that suggestion with 80% of their screens covered in addon overlays to look like NASA mission control.

Agreed, i can't play skyrim without mods either, and I am completely sure that if all mods on eso were disabled, I'd give stop playing completely.

That said, I can't possibly believe it is zos intention to led an addon detect these stealth things in pvp.

Because it doesn't. It counts the number of players you've seen in the current combat. The counter is buggy as heck and takes a while to register and de-register players during combat. Anyone that could possibly use this to cheat is already a skilled enough player that they don't need to cheat.

I should take a look at the code, any idea how it is counting? If it was me, I would probably just use the combat logs/spam to count the number of unique players using skills nearby. There is probably some other API though, as it and the other addon seem to count players standing at the base as well. So even if they remove whatever API it is using, combat logs would still exist, and removing that would pretty much destroy every PVE combat addon out there.

Seriously doubt ZOS could "turn off" their API's only while you are in Cyrodiil either, API's are usually an all or nothing thing.
