Yep, some good stuff in the PTS patch today.

My two favorites are these, because in my play style, details matter with quests:
Taking Up the Mantle: Count Verandis Ravenwatch will now properly show up and you can have the conversation with him after completing Markarth's capper quests if you've already completed the achievement on another character.
Note: This does mean you can have this conversation again on the character that initially completed the achievement.

Old Wounds: One of Tarnamir's conversations no longer assumes you've actually joined the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood unless you've completed those quests.

Will that Antiquity thing be retroactive? As in, will it apply to things for which I've already completed the Codex?
(and not just going forward after the U34 patch?)

There are a couple of furnishings I've been trying to get another lead for (4th or higher), and they just aren't dropping anymore.
It's starting to drive me a little insane.

But that change will mitigate my descent into madness.

(the Companion change is cool, too!)

Correct, but the person who already ground out 20 on hundreds of dragon kills just got the prestige of his accomplishment trashed overnight. Sort of like the person who ground out all those achievements on their alts had their hard work invalidated with AWA. It's a disturbing trend of dumbing down the game for whatever reason. It's great for new folks or those who don't like to put in the work, but rather disappointing for those who do/did.

I'm definitely one of those people who was grinding windows and moon pools for my builds. I appreciate the sentiment of your post, and do feel this way to some extent as I considered acquiring these furnishings an accomplishment.

But I can't help but be happy now that after all that hard work, the grind is over for me and I can immediately work with a piece I want in a build if I don't feel like hunting the lead. I hate AWA and absolutely disdain what they did to the game by implementing it, but in thus particular case I am not so resistant. For me this genuinely is a QOL improvement, while AWA is just a mess.

Still, I do find these kinds of changes concerning, and I can't help but wonder what will be changed next and if it will be something I don't want to see changed.

It may be the case that grinding will still be feasible, based on the selling price of those furniture. Also, the accomplishment won't be diminished - that person still did something worth mentioning, regardless of the change. May not sound fair, but it helps other people and of course that includes the same person in the future.

This is the nature of MMORPGs, we get more content, achievements get inflated to allow new people to keep with all.

The work was doing it once - it's just going through the motions when you do it again.
It's easy to be frustrated because you want other people to suffer like you have, but it's hardly dumbing down when they have to collect it the first time.
You'll have a nicer time if you stop valuing things because others don't have them - it's a common thing with online gamers, they achieve something then it becomes easier and others get it and they lose interest because 'oh noes, it's not unique anymore'.

And the person who ground 20 on hundreds of dragon kills shouldn't care what other people get, they should be happy they enjoyed getting it. (unless, of course, they only judge happiness as a zero sum game.)

I wish I could give this post an Insightful, an Agree, and an Awesome, but since I can only choose one I went with Insightful. Too many times people in the world worry more about what others can get instead of being thankful for what they can get. People still have to complete the codex, so no one is getting anything for zero effort. It would have been nice if they had had this particular achievement vendor in the game from the start of antiquities, but thank goodness they are adding it now. <falls off soapbox>

Yep, agreed. I have been a player since beta and, given the fact that I have a lot going on in my life right now, I have been trouble keeping up even with just the latest things. I can't imagine what it would be like as a new player to want something that's way at the end of the road.

I don't think there is a lot of "prestige" from doing something that is simply time consuming but not difficult. Possibly excluding Master Angler, which I do respect. :) I can understand people being upset if they started handing out trifecta skins or something for Crowns, but even rewards won for something "difficult" really is just for you in this game.

This seems truly like a QoL change; not at all the same as AwA although I understand how it might feel like it given what many of us went through to try to make a positive change to the AwA implementation before it went live.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I mean, that's the whole game. We've all ground stuff that was at one time a real challenge to watch people a year or two later be practically handed something.

And Achievements were already ruined long ago, not by AwA, but by people being able to buy carries and by content getting nerfed + power creep making one time ordeals into cakewalks.

Personally, I couldn't care less whether someone else got some achievement or piece of gear that I've gotten, and which of us had the easier or harder time doing it. All I care is whether I did it, and if it was hard for me then I feel good about having done it. And content gets easier or harder for me from time to time according to the changes that ZOS makes.

Case in point, I used to be able to solo all of the world bosses in Northern Elsweyr on my tankish wet-noodley main on PC EU, but stamina-related changes to skills in U33 now prevent me from soloing all of them. It doesn't matter to me whether other players can melt those bosses in a fraction of the time it takes me to solo them, because the pleasure I get isn't determined by how quickly and easily I can defeat a given boss, but whether I can defeat it at all using my chosen build and fighting style. And for me, the most exciting fights are the ones where I come within a hair of dying but recover just enough health at the last moment and somehow manage to complete the fight and vanquish the boss.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I agree 100%.. making things easier only takes away from the value and accomplishment, something ZOS should consider carefully as value and accomplishment are often what keep players in the game and not looking elsewhere!
