Time for a Classic ESO server

With all the changes to the game it feels so different. Is it time for releasing a Classic ESO server set to Thieves guild DLC early patch. Best Raid. Best Classes. Classic balance.

Pass. I remember the veteran level grind. The game is better off now than it was then. Not to mention how could you do it for consoles when each of them is their own server?

I do miss Baby MOL. Was the funniest thing 2 manning MOL with vet 16 characters.

But nah there's no going back.

Wasn't Thieves Guild where they introduced the multiple load screens feature? I seem to recall getting four or five unusually long load screens just running from the Thieves' Den back door to the Abah's Landing Wayshrine. That was on PS4 (not sure if it was the same n PC or Xbox) and wasn't fixed for months... good times.

You would need to go back farther than that to get to classic ESO. Going back would be a mistake especially going back farther than One Tamriel. Weapons wouldn't have ultimates there would be no vet dungeons you would be limited to who you could play with and all kinds of other things would need to be removed.
The only good that would come of it would be from the perspective of players that used Cheat Engine. They would again be able to dominate PvP by flying around dropping comets on the troops below.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Yeeeaaaah I really don't see ZOS shelling out the money for another six full servers like that. And what even counts as 'classic'? The removal of zones and dungeons that didn't exist some arbitrary number of years ago? Undoing all number of changes to skills, sets, items, mechanics, and so on? Or would 'classic' keep everything intact? What makes it 'classic' if everything is kept, though?

I'd much rather they focus on the actual game and work out the problems it has than splitting up the various dev groups for something like this
    Character List [RP and PvE]:
Stands-Against-Death: Argonian Magplar Healer - Crafter
Krisiel: Redguard Stamsorc DPS - Literally crazy Werewolf, no like legit insane. She nuts
Kiju Veran: Khajiit Stamblade DPS - Ex-Fighters Guild Suthay who likes to punch things, nicknamed Tinykat
Niralae Elsinal: Altmer Stamsorc DPS - Young Altmer with way too much Magicka
Sarah Lacroix: Breton Magsorc DPS - Fledgling Vampire who drinks too much water
Slondor: Nord Tankblade - TESified verson of Slenderman
Marius Vastino: Imperial <insert role here> - Sarah's apathetic sire who likes to monologue
Delthor Rellenar: Dunmer Magknight DPS - Sarah's ex who's a certified psychopath
Lirawyn Calatare: Altmer Magplar Healer - Traveling performer and bard who's 101% vanilla bean
Gondryn Beldeau: Breton Tankplar - Sarah's Mages Guild mentor and certified badass old person
Gwendolyn Jenelle: Breton Magplar Healer - Friendly healer with a coffee addiction
Soliril Larethian- Altmer Magblade DPS - Blind alchemist who uses animals to see and brews plagues in his spare time
Tevril Rallenar: Dunmer Stamcro DPS - Delthor's "special" younger brother who raises small animals as friends
Celeroth Calatare: Bosmer <insert role here> - Shapeshifting Bosmer with enough sass to fill Valenwood

    PC - NA - EP - CP1000+
Avid RPer. Hit me up in-game @Ras_Lei if you're interested in getting together for some arr-pee shenanigans!

I want a hardmode server like UO had.

    One character slot per account.
    No transmutes
    No reconstruction
No XP bonuses whatsoever (Scrolls, potions, or events)
    No hybrid skills/abilities

This would really put the new Armory system to use!

Don't forget permadeath - that would provide the challenge some say they want when doing overland content especially when one-shotting world bosses and soloing harrowstorms etc  !

And any pvp kill can be looted .... (old mmo was doing that, for increasing difficulty, and so you could loose a piece of armor, a weapon etc ...) and you had to go back to get your corpse (as a ghost)

I hate to be another naysayer but... nay.

Honestly, the game is, for the most part, the same beast it's always been. Sure, we have more content, but nothing has changed drastically enough to make it feel like an entirely new game. Part of this, I think, is because ZoS does a really good job of keeping older content relevant - unlike a lot of MMOs, older areas aren't just dead whenever the latest DLC comes out. Routinely, in fact, I find the busiest areas to be Vulkhel Guard, or Rawl'kha, despite them being all the way from vanilla ESO.

Usually I'm all for more options too, so long as they don't overwrite other options for players... but splitting the playerbase into separate servers from what I can imagine would lower population counts far more than would be healthy for the game. This, added costs for keeping up separate servers, and running content for the "classic" version (depending on how you see this rolling out), would significantly impact the energy able to be put into the main game.

I can see the appeal, having been accepted into the second wave (I think?) of limited tests pre-open beta, of going back to a different time... But take it from me - at least with the game as it is right now, it's way too much risk and way too much cost for way too little reward.

Idk about a "classic server" being the answer, ZOS already uses antiquated tools for the game as it is lol.
So why not buy up to date , shiny new powerful MODERN servers?
It's not like they don't have the money. But it's cuz of money why they don't. It's all about keeping operational costs AS LOW as possible. That's the name of the game. ZOS needs some mega huge hit seller in the future to bank roll any server updates. So Starfield is getting lots of the bankroll and Elder Scrolls 6, and another brand new MMO they are working on( if I'm not mistaken) is getting all the funding, all the worker talent, at the moment.
For example , if Elder Scrolls 6 is a massive ginormous , huge, historical record breaking epic success ( and it's highly likely ) then ESO will probably get a major major upgrade. Maybe even a massive graphic engine upgrade too. Imagine If ESO looked like Black Desert.
But ya, right now ZOS is Jimmy rigging the server. They bought lots of cheap duck tap. Rumor has it that ZOS's servers are ran by Hamsters on a treadmill.
So they buy lots of little food for the hamsters.
    This keeps costs super low.

I remember those days.....heck...even PVE had to go run naked or as a ghost to get their equipment off your dead body....and if you died under a raid mob......good luck. You might need to get another guild come help you get your corpses to get your gear before your body rotted and all your gear disappeared.

I wouldn't assume money from a successful title would spill into a less successful. Corporate budgetting doesn't usually work that way.

This. My joke about red/pink weapons aside, no matter how careful you were, being overleveled on overland. Silver/gold was a boring nightmare. The vet grind, whole zones being empty while others were packed. Farming resources. The more I think the more I'm remembering. Ugh, no thank you.

If only to see if I would have an easier time with Doshia and Molag bal as I had back then.

But I reckon I'd get bored real quick.
A "classic" server in any MMO is a bad idea, IMO.

I always figure classic servers are that last gasp of relevance for a title.

When your game has become large and overwhelming and your game has aged and become outdated; where your playerbase is devoted but new growth has stagnated; it is no longer worth major investment because you aren't getting new growth; you can eek out several more years by reminding your players of why they fell in love with your title in the first place.

That doesn't mean that I think they are a bad idea; they work. They appeal to your playerbase and the game goes on longer. That is a desired impact...but the need to create classic or progression servers marks that time in a games shelf life when they are not attracting new players much anymore and they need to strongly appeal to the existing base nostalgia.

It marks the beginning of the end; even if they end is many years out. I am not against them; I am just not ready for this game to be reaching that point yet!
