The Thrafey Debutante Gown Grind is DISGUSTING.

The grind for 50 scaly scraps of cloth is disgustingly bad. I've been grinding for days for these pieces and I've only found one.

That's every day in the Silent Halls, doing at least three complete boss runs, and trash mobs, for 1 - 2 hours every single day.

AND I'VE ONLY FOUND ONE SCALY SCRAP OF CLOTH.

And you want me to find FIFTY?!

They're currently going for 60,000 to 75,000 gold for ONE on the Guild Traders. That means that if you were to purchase them all, it would cost you a whopping 3,000,000 - 3,750,000 gold. And there are rarely more than 20 or so on Guild Traders at any given time. So you couldn't even buy them all if you wanted to.

What's even worse, is that the Dungeon has a horrible layout for grinding. There are only small groups of mobs that barely number 4 - 5, so you can't really get a good pull. And it has five separate maps, that are all tiny with spawns very far and isolated from each other. This makes it incredibly hard to find the pieces, and needs to be rebalanced.

Please, PLEASE, consider lowering the requirements for the gown, and possibly increasing the drop rate of the scraps. I think 35 might be fair, but still require a lot of good effort. I know you want people logged in, playing the game, but this is ridiculously off putting, when someone plays casually and can't even find one scrap a day. Makes me not even want to try getting it anymore.

An alternative; make a daily repeatable quest for the dungeon, and the reward is a box with some gold and a scrap in it, like Siege Merits in IC. I wouldn't mind doing that for 50 days if it were guaranteed I got a scrap for the costume.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yeah 50 pieces of anything is ridiculous. I miss the days when you just needed 8 pieces of a cat or a robe.

I honestly don't know what they were thinking with fifty.

The Dwarven Theodolite was seven unique pieces, and I found them all in about ten days or so. That was going every day for an hour or two and grinding out the dungeon. It was rough, but it wasn't IMPOSSIBLE. And you traded the extras you had for pieces you needed. That system worked. But endless grinding for two months for 50 pieces??? That's ridiculous.

the thing that makes me less likely to want to grind both this and the zenithar gate from the other blackwood public dungeon is for whatever unholy reason they decided to not allow you to port to people inside of those instances

i cant just be like "oh im just gonna jump in here and do some quick grinding while waiting on a long dungeon queue or 40 person cyro queue), but you have to physically ride to both instances and neither are in good spots with respect to the wayshrines

This was just awful decision making. Either the drop rate needs to be spectacularly increased, or they need to lower the amount of items needed in line with Elsweyr at ten pieces. I'm not even going to bother trying to get either rewards. Fishing seems more appealing then doing that...

I'm simply trying to get the Summerset waterfall -- "only" 30 dailies, and that's a guaranteed drop, and already ESO feels more like a jail sentence than a piece of entertainment.

Ah well, they want player retention. Some people perhaps actually farm these, so in those cases the retention might work.

I'd farm more of these 50 item things if they were more reasonable to farm, which would keep me engaged with the game longer. When the drop rates are so low it would be literally thousands of played hours to farm up the item, it's not worth my time. At that point the content might as well not exist.

I completely agree. I wouldn't find farming 50 if I could at least get one every half hour or hour. But THREE DAYS 1 - 2 hours each day and only a single scrap. It's either bugged or it has a drop rate of like 0.007%, which is disgusting Gacha bullcrap.

I don't grind but I've been in these places often enough that you'd think I'd have more than 1 scaly scrap by now. I still have less than 5 pieces for the husk from Labyrinthian.

The fact that I have not even heard of the one from Labyrinthian and had to look it up... is a testament of how bad this system is. I LOVE gatheringthe free collectibles in game. I periodically look up what fragments traders have so I know what ones are in the game. But this is the first time I've even heard of the target dummy fragments from western skyrim.

As you can see this has been raised before:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/576018/scaly-cloth-scraps-the-grind#latest

    The OP is from 06/21.

I am really glad that I got this done within a couple of weeks of the PD being released, when you could find scraps on guild traders for 5-10k apiece.

the drop rate on the ones from the labyrinthian and the zenithar public dungeon are about the same, ive gotten about 17-20 drops of both just running all bosses/quest on a couple of toons with minimal straight up farming

some of these public dungeons dont lend that well to farming as they have poor circuits, unlike the forgotten wastes in vvardenfell with a room that has like 6 close mobs in it

in doing the same with the silent halls for scaly cloth, ive gotten only 1

i normally get these collectibles quickly, but the fact they require 50 drops and they are moderately rare (labyrinthian/zenithar abby) or exceedingly rare (silent halls), it quickly removes the want to try grinding and is more of a cumulative long term project

im also not suggesting that the other collectibles were nice either, there used to be no easy ways to tell which collectible you were missing like the dwemer theolodite, i still forget how many individual pieces there are (the newer dungeon in blackreach with the cartographer gear improved on this quite a bit by using the collection menu)

Of all the crazy grinds I've done in this game, this one wasn't that bad. I just farmed the first room for an hour or so each night and had it done in a few weeks. My rate was about 4 per hour, sometimes more or sometimes less. I told my guild about this farm and one of them was getting several per night and a fancy 400k or more for a little work.

I very much doubt it. There was a bit of an uproar when they changed the repeatable pre-Murkmire quest, from being able to do all six quests every day, to only one a day - and keeping the 150 dailies needed to get the max achievement. They just stated that it was "as intended" and that was that. I don't think they will change the existing 50 needed for any lower number. And I would dare guess that the new ones of the same type will also require fifty parts in the upcoming chapter.

I love to collect stuff, but that sort of grind is just utterly pointless. I have a life, as does the majority of the gamers, so making everything a horrible grind is just a major disservice to most players, I think.

I am fairly sure that someone will contradict me though, and say that the game isn't grindy enough. ;)

Yeah I'm just not going to bother ever trying to get the silly gown. I just feel like I'm wasting my time whenever I try. I could be doing a million other things instead that are much more enjoyable.

I don't like the Labyrinthian grind either, but I really want that dummy so I'll persevere.

This isn't the first thing to require a 50-piece RNG-dependent grind in order to assemble, and probably won't be the last.

What I don't like about this is that it isn't even a "work hard to earn something" reward. It's just a "work for a long a$$ time until you regret you even tried" reward. You just run around and kill mobs and wait for the RNG gods to bless you. That's it. The sheer amount of time it would take to get this is not worth the actual reward itself. I could do so many things with my time then this. Which I will be doing, thus not touching this reward at all. I want difficult content with cool rewards, that make me feel like I really earned it. Not grindy content that is so mind numbingly boring to do, that I would rather do ANYTHING else in this game then that. Many people who play ESO also have jobs. Have LIVES. So would I rather use the few hours I have a day getting a BUNCH of content done, that I actually would enjoy doing, and feel like it is enough of a challenge to keep me engaged? Or do I want to spend the next few weeks JUST trying to get this outfit?

Yeah, I never even bothered with this grind. It's too punishing. I want to have fun playing the game, not hate it. I've managed to get three pieces of this thing, which now are endlessly taking up a spot in my bank.

They have a really hard finding the level of challenge that us fun and engaging and encourages a healthy sized community of players and so easy everyone does it.

If it was really RNG, wouldn’t you have some good days where you get a few per hour and then days where you go for hours and get nothing? Cause it sounds like it was pretty consistently good for you where others get consistently nothing.

There has to be some unknown factor that increases the drop rate for some players and/or significantly decreases it for others from all the posts I have read. I just wish I knew what it was.

I have done this public dungeon on a couple of toons, got no drops, but I had read the previous post about the grind and even though I’m a completionist, I am not going to get angry over the time wasted trying to get this. I was only able to get about 15 Labyrinthian pieces before I quit.

i found the best way to grind silent halls was just to do a circuit on the outdoor section at the beginning and kill the trash mobs. Bonus is there are quite a few chests to get gear and paintings etc
