Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be ZOS’ MO. When people wanted a feminine form of Empieror, ZOS forcibly took it away from female characters and replaced it with Empieress. They either didn’t consider or thought too little of the opinions of those who wanted a gender-neutral title or (imo) the better pun.
Honestly it would be best if we would get a gender toggle for titles and dance emotes. Yes, dance emotes are gendered in ESO. Some dances have male and female versions, depending on the gender of your character. There is a work-around to get the male dance emotes on female characters, but I don't think it works the other way around. Players should be allowed to chose which version of a dance they want to "emote". A toggle, easily accessible, would be really good for both issues. I mean, why shouldn't a female character use male titles if the player likes it, and vice versa?

    [snip]

I don't mind feminine variants, but guess what? They are already there. Examples:

Lord / Lady (Daggerfall Overlook), Clan Mother / Clan Father.

And why was no one ever offended by the fact that usually within the Khajiit society there are Clan Mothers ONLY? Have you encountered any Khajiit who holds a title of a Clan Father?

The point is, eg. a nurse is a caring profession, and like it or not, but women are by nature more caring than men. In some languages where there are inflectional endings (endings that indicate gender) occupation names have the gender ascribed arbitrarily. And whereas feminine variants sometimes do sound good, other may not.

    Example #1
male truck / lorry driver in Polish: tirowiec. Following the grammar rules, female variant would be: tirówka. HOWEVER, in slang 'tirówka' does not mean a female truck driver, but... a prostitute.

    Example #2
tinsmith / whitesmith / sheet metal worker in Polish: blacharz; female variant: blacharka. YET blacharka is simply a different name for panel-beating, so the name for what tinsmiths do.

Grand Overlord is used in the matter of a military rank not a title. For ranks it makes little sense to have destinct female adaptations. It would also cause confusion because every rank would effecvtively exist twice. You can also see this in other fields, CEO, CTO etc also dont have destinct female counterparts and are simply used by both genders.

I have known some older people who insist on saying 'manageress' if the manager is a woman. I can't remember hearing anything similar for higher ranks, but I can't help thinking that's because the type of people who say that are the ones who will simply refuse to believe a woman can be that senior.

(We had a bit of an incident a few years back at my work when a guy at a conference kept refering to the CEO as a secretary and assumed one of the heads of department who happened to be with her was the CEO, just because he was the only man over 35 in the group. The same guy had previously asked me to pass hand-written notes to "the gals in the typing pool" so I think his ideas on how a company works are more than a little out dated!)

Yes, I've raised both points before. Repeatedly. The workaround I know of for the dances does not qualify as a workaround, imo, because you need your character not to look like your character to make it work. That defeats the purpose, for me.

    Unfortunately, ZOS doesn't seem interested.

If you quick slot the polymorph you can unequip it while dancing 💃 and have your character looking like your character while doing the dance. So it is a workaround for ladies, unfortunately they have yet to introduce a female polymorph (not even the Spriggan!) which means that males don't have a workaround.

English has been going through a cycle of 1980s "genderless" names that were incredibly bad sounding (Chairperson, Fireperson etc) being ground down into something sensible that is easy to say and flows (Chair, Firefighter). In UK English at least titles are still officially gendered and inclusiveness is still down to "Lords and Ladies" (and if other ranks present so on down the whole list in strict heirarchy...).

There are *traps*. Some things try to suggest Warlock is the male form for Witch, but it's from the old English meaning "oath breaker", so real Witches get most upset if you do.

The appearance might be, but the polymorph itself is coded male so it gets male dances, afaik.

    ok, jokes aside )

There is no female military rank names like civilians have (airplane steward and stewardess). Sure you can name "captain" as "captainess" but it's wierd, since historicaly military forces includes mostly males.

Pls, do not bring to ESO all that modern trendy gender stuff.
