Grand Overlord for female characters

I noticed the Grand Overlord title doesn't get adapted to the gender of the character like Lord/Lady and other titles do. I am all in for the Grand Overlady title. With that many players who choose Lady/Lord already in their character's name, it seems strange to see a "Grand Overlord Lady Whatever" around.

According to wiktionary a female overlord is an overlady: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/overlady

Never heard of an "overlady." Not sure a "wiki" is a reliable source.

Does that mean my Former Empresses could one day become Grand Overlordesses?

oh god, overlady sounds terrible. pls make that a toggle...
If you can't even spell sets, locations and items, you probably have no clue what you even are talking about.

Tamriel, not Tamerial, Temerial or Tamériál
    Alkosh, not Alkoash
    Dolmen, not Dolman
    Olorime, not Oloramie
    Sorcerer, not Sorceror

Lord, as well as other royal titles, are actually gender-neutral. There have been many female kings in the past. Overlady does sound terrible.

Ah, this could be it. Although I think in some cases there are different words for royal titles, like king and queen. The thing is, in ESO we already have Lord and Lady! You won't be able to equip the Lord title on a female character. However, Grand Overlord doesn't seem to be a royal title, but rather a military title, which might explain why it is gender-neutral.

If my Grand Overlord was changed to Grand Overlady, I'd never use the title again. Overlord is a gender neutral term. :|

Grand Overlord is fine with my female Orc.

Personally I think we are all going overboard on removing all male references, like we can’t say mankind anymore in real life.

With real-life rulers it varies by country. In the UK a female monarch is still called a Queen and there just isn't a King because that's considered a higher rank. (Which is why Prince Philip wasn't King Philip.) In other countries a female monarch is called the King - Jadwiga of Poland for example was crowned King.

With lower ranks the male and female versions can be the same, or similar, like lord and lady or duke and dutchess, or completely different - a female knight is called a dame.

I suppose technically the female equivalent of Overlord would be Overlady, but I also agree that sounds awkward. So I like the interpretation that it's a military title rather than a civil one and therefore gender neutral.

You mix up 2 saperate things here.

Lord/Lady or Emperor/Empress are aristocratic titles. These have male and female counterparts for the title. This is historically because the position could be occupied by man and woman.

Grand Overlord is used in the matter of a military rank not a title. For ranks it makes little sense to have destinct female adaptations. It would also cause confusion because every rank would effecvtively exist twice. You can also see this in other fields, CEO, CTO etc also dont have destinct female counterparts and are simply used by both genders.

My main is a female char, and I haven't even thought about this as an issue. Overlady sounds very odd.

The prince part is also likely taken from Latin origin and words such as princeps (first, foremost), and not the later definition related to monarchy. Which in a sense is gender neutral, just like this military title.

No thank you. I’m happy with the Grand Overlord title on my female toons, and I’m pretty sure Dortene would not be amused if you called her “Grand Warlady Dortene”.

This is the first time I’ve really considered that I am higher ranking than the woman who gives me my orders though. Time to give Dortene a promotion!

Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be ZOS’ MO. When people wanted a feminine form of Empieror, ZOS forcibly took it away from female characters and replaced it with Empieress. They either didn’t consider or thought too little of the opinions of those who wanted a gender-neutral title or (imo) the better pun.

Even after account-wide titles, we will be stuck with forced gendered variants. Even if OP is not asking for Grand Overlord to be removed from female characters, what ZOS has done previously shows that’s probably what they’d end up doing.
