Will ESO see a graphics refresh?

The game has a ton of outdated/10-year-old assets, such as character models, base zones, werewolf form, etc. Although a graphic update is mandatory, it won't happen unless players start quitting the game bc of how outdated it looks. Since this isn't happening, there is no financial incentive to revisit old content. In contrast, it pays to promote the newer sharper content and sell reskinned pets.

I could see them doing a graphics update for there 10th anniversary. We can all hope at least.

Jeez.... I never notice graphics really. I've been playing CRPGs forever, and everything now is so much better than stuff back in the 80s....

I'd really rather they didn't spend money on graphics I won't notice. Lots of things I'd rather have - like a working Cyrodiil for those who really love pvp....

I do notice the graphics, and Cryrodiil will never work. The game engine is old and stale, it cant keep up with it.

I agree, but they won’t or can’t do it. It would require developing the entire game again on a new engine, as the current engine seems to be at its limits.

It’s especially noticeable when you look at the ground with plants and grass that are sprites. Actually sprites. Used in the 90’s. Also when towns like layawin require a loading screen before entering. It’s getting bad.

But as much as I would love them to remake ESO, the game is 7.5 years old now and ZoS is still making bank off of the people that aren’t bothered by low graphics. Therefore there is no financial incentive to invest in a remake.

    Ah well. 🤷‍♂️

ZOS is doing a huge recode to fix lag and improve the servers. Would be amazing they come with Graphics Refresh also.

After play New World, Lost Ark and Elden Ring I really felt Eso needs a Graphics Refresh asap.

But I have to be honest even with worst graphics and lag, ESO it is the best content and if ZOS fix the lag and rework the graphics no other game can compete with ESO.

They propably will change something as long as it is possible. Just compare screenshots from ESOs Release and now. There already were a lot of minor changes, that visually changed a lot.

    This.

I've been playing games since 30x40 resolution. ESO looks great to me. And playing something with "better" graphics doesn't change that. Just because something else looks better, doesn't suddenly make something that already looked good, now look "bad".

    That said, two things:
    1. I've also never noticed small errors/etc in movies or TV shows. Like boom mikes reflected in windows or an out-of-place car in the background. So stuff like "oh, that texture looks muddy" or minor pop-in? Don't see it unless it's fantastically obvious.
    2. I've never had an "uber" system that could run things at Ultra/Ultra/etc. So I never see games at their absolute shiny-est.

Don’t complain about the Dunmer zones. The Aldmeri zones are the worst. I hate going there. The wood elf forest stuff looks totally cheesy. It looked bad when the game launched and it looks twice as bad now. And no amount of Reshade is going to help.

That’s the classic trying to polish a turd. Yeah, I’ve said that the old stuff could use freshening up but they have their hands full. Unless they can farm that out to somebody else I think they should leave it alone. They have enough on their plate.

Hmm. And here I've always liked those zones.

Commenting on the graphic quality of a game (as opposed to its design) is pointless without stating the platform, the console model or PC specs, and the ingame settings on which the comment is based.

It needs an engine refresh first.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

Character models need a rework for sure.

I think the world in general looks pretty good but what really bums me out is that nothing in ESO moves, except for grass, not even hair or cloth.

There's just no wind in the world, change that and i'd look a lot better, I also agree with light and weather parts.

    God I hope not.

I like my characters the way they are. As a matter of fact, I like the older zones the way they are too.

Be careful what you wish for. You may just get it, and deeply regret it when zos gives you what they think you want, yet it doesn't turn out to be what you meant at all.

Play ESO in 4K and tell me it needs a graphics update.. game looks amazing. If their track record is anything to go by, based on how long its taking to revamp the servers we'll see model updates in about 10,000 years so either way it aint happening.

I agree. Not sure if theyve added something during the years, should check my old screenshoths .. but thinking its 8 years old the graphics have aged well.

11 years after I played in the public beta and, was wowed by the graphics in this game, I think it still looks great. Change for change sake, is pointless.

Remember, a benefit of the game's graphics not being up to the latest standards, is that it also doesn't need the latest and greatest GPU to run it well, with settings turned up high.

I like the graphics style just as it is - it has the TES:Oblivion style, which it is basically based on. It is nostalgic as it is.

Matt Firor recently spoke about this- he said minimum spec puts a limit on what they can do. Although they get asked a lot about redoing base game stuff, he said its not coming any time soon. However they do, when they can, go back and touch up certain things where it makes sense to do so.

I personally keep a candle lit for a future redo. There is a stark contrast between pre-and post launch zones. The latter all feel like they belong in the same game, while the former feel drastically out-dated. And for me, its exciting to see all the new zones done so masterfully, but so disappointing that the places I was always excited to see, like High Rock- the reasons I decided to come to ESO in the first place languish in an ugly, crowded, and poorly-designed fashion.

Yeah, no amount of texture, light, etc update is going to change those spread out trees that can barely be called a forest is the supposedly jungle of all jungles, where the tree crowns block out the sun except for some small holes, and if you stand on some lower branch you can't see the ground because of all the roots, lower foliage etc.

I'm quite salty how they made Valenwood. And the only Valenwood related I can expect to portray it better is Falinesti.
