What if they auto hid pets and companions in every town?

In the latest patch notes they announced that "Companions are no longer visible in Fargrave to aid in improving performance throughout the area." And that got me thinking about all of the complaints about how people get annoyed when someone's pets block them from being able to access a crafting station or something similar, which left me wondering, what if they did that for all towns?

Hiding would certainly be preferable to the apparently random unsummons that happen currently.

Pets and companions don't bother me - but if it does sufficiently bother others, then having them hidden wouldn't bother me either.

Not necessarily. Tod Howard commented on how there was a mod that allowed people to teleport to houses in Skyrim and about how they had never thought about it. Many things are easier for the end user to see and think about than for the producer. And technically the same thing is true the other way around.

I don't think they should stop them from displaying as a blanket thing, but I think when the population of a city gets over a certain number, then companions/pets should be hidden.

I honestly had not thought about the regular pets, just the ones that get in people's way.

I dont see a reason you need to see companions or pets in any area unless they are attacking something. I think it would be cool in overland if when a companion or a pet started attacking something, they appeared from a puff of smoke like they were in the shadows. Only reason you need to see a companion or a pet is if you are in a team with someone, or they are fighting something.

Pets are annoying and I'd love them to be blocked. Just just seeing companions in town doesn't bother me like it does some, but it would be nice if they were blocked from banks and crafting areas.

I'm all for this option but make it client side so everyone can have it their way. Shouldn't be that hard.

Other, because if this was in the API I'm sure someone would've already created an addon.

Is it a plus/minus type of deal?

I think what we can safely surmise is that it is calculation based with an if->then type schema, possibly within a specified radius rather than the exact cropping of city walls?

Extending that radius to include more type of additional character assets within greater spans of accessible overland could possibly tip the scales of performance improvement to performance hit. Again this is speculating on the assumption we can't know how this system is built.

I'd like to see perhaps an options system for those of us who experience motion sickness or just want a cleaner look on the game, to at least hide the most bothersome additional character assets such as warden bears and sorc summons, but obviously only if it can be implemented in a way that doesn't decrease performance. I have a feeling an easier way to accomplish having fewer sorcpets and warden bears constantly hogging up resources and screen space, could be to rework those specific skills so that they need reapplying, much like how the necromancer skeleton archer needs reapplying. But I'd still like the option to banish them entirely from my view, to be frank.

I don't like blanket bans on things if the zone gets overpopulated and it starts to affect performance, then its one thing.

Aside from the more popular cities most have nowhere near such a population that having companions or pets out would affect performance.

As for combat pets I thought the interaction priority changes were suppose to have resolved the getting in the way of crafting stations and turn in points to some extent.

I might consider resubbing. It is no end annoying to have a bear or flapping thing in my face, not to mention the incredibly creepy multiplying companions.

The only one I really care about is the sorcs flying rat.

Nothing else bothers me. Yes, occasionally a Warden bear gets in my way but Beardens are pretty rare.

Companions only show up in Leyawin or if you're grouped with someone in all cities.

I wonder if hiding pets would cause more problems for backend processing, especially considering the random dueling that takes place in towns and cities, which I love to watch. The system would have to check for duels and place the duelers in a different instance? Would that mean spectators could no longer spectate? How would that work?

I would hate this change, and it would take away from sorc class identity, as it would with warden- the advertised identity that is. What if instead ZOS made desummoning pets from the ability bar a thing. I love my pets, but I would welcome the ability to unsummon them and make intentional use out of the Rebate passive.

I like a toggle, I want to see other people's companions in town to see how they dress them up. It's easier to see them when they're all congregated in a common hangout area than scouring the fields.

This would be a massive quality of life improvement. I'm fine with it being an optional toggle that each player can set. If I turn mine off, I don't see any combat pets and/or companions of other players. They can choose to leave it on if they want flappy insanity everywhere. Choices are good.

I think it would be fine if you would only see your own pet/whatever. No point for having to see what other players have summoned. It should give performance boost too and it canf be hard to implement. Win win to everyone

I don't think it would take away any of the sorcerer identity to not have summons up at all times, on the contrary I know many players who play sorcerers without having any pets up at any time and their characters are all still sorcerers. With this proposed change, you can still summon your pets for RP and screenshot purposes where needed to display your build identity, and other players' experience and performance of the game might also increase significantly as a bonus. I know it would mean I would stop having to take scenic routes around swarms of matriarchs to avoid motion sickness, for instance. It would also bring these classes in line with how every other class in the game functions. Of course, they'd have to make some adjustments to the pets in terms of their activation of certain abilities, maybe give sorcerers and wardens additional morphs for their pets even to compensate.

I never have my bears or flappies out anywhere but in combat - assuming I know beforehand I'll be in combat. Sometimes that doesn't happen of course.... I don't find there to be an issue with "character identity".

    In every BANK, yes.

I like watching peeps and their critters around town.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I'm fine with other people's summoned pets (less fine with mine because they're constantly in my screen), and I love seeing what others have done with their Bastians and Mirris.
Adding: I do think they should be hidden in crafting areas and banks.

What two classes in ESO are the same as the other? Each one is different and unique. Sorc is the premier conjuration class in ESO, with perma-pets being one of the main identifying features of the class. Making sorc pets into the frail necro summons or whatever the warden is trying to do, does real damage to its established identity as a master of conjuration, dark and destruction magic.

I'm not so annoyed by companions, more by pets, especially the ones with flapping wings. Personally, I would appreciate if in towns, pets all types would get automatically turned off. I don't think that it needs to be in whole town, but maybe only in certain zones, like places with crafting stations and building with bank.

We know it's possible, since companions already turned off automatically in certain situations and certain zones. We also dismount automatically in certain places. So it's a mechanic already implemented and working in the game.

I have full understanding that players lover their pets and companions, but some others don't. Since they are allowed nearly everywhere, I believe that it would be a fair compromise that a few zones in towns become free of pets/companions.
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA
