Idk, a 3 minute fight for 3 plunder skulls is fairly decent. It's not really a difficult fight at all, plenty of world bosses that are more difficult.

I like the concept, but in the time to get feathers, form a group and kill the thing you can farm up more skulls. There at least should be an achievement or something.

Getting feathers is farming plunder skulls though. It takes like 4 or 5 to get 50 feathers. So if you are already farming skulls you are farming feathers too.

And then the fight takes like 3-4 minutes and gives 3 skulls. You can't get 3 skulls in that time fighting other bosses due to the cooldown. So it is beneficial if farming skulls is what you are trying to do.

Went in solo. I liked it.
    1. Feathers gather themselves while doing event.
    2. Crow didn't die within seconds. I had to work for it.

The time to gather feathers is pretty much irrelevant. It takes like 4-5 plunder skulls to get 50 feathers. Presumably, if you care at all about this event, you are collecting plunder skulls. So you are literally already gathering feathers just participating in the event.

I have to wonder if this encounter is a nod towards the regular forum posts asking for harder overland content without necessarily better rewards. If a bunch of folks run it, despite the lackluster rewards, perhaps we'll see movement in that direction?

Amusing how all the players decked out in meta and mythic gear find it so easy.
In a general event like this not all players have acquired these items.
Put on a general stat set and then come back and tell us how it went.
I like the fact the boss is hard , but it belongs in content where you know what you are getting into.
At least lower levels and not yet meta'd out characters can group up, but it is their only choice.

Please tell us the boss is just glitched and it's actually supposed to drop things, because if it's working as intended...seriously what's the point? The effort to beat the boss doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to matching the pitiful rewards. At least make it drop three of the Dremora Skulls if that's all it's going to reward us.

He could give something, I agree.
For some people that last boss is gonna be a challenge (we all have different playstyles/xp)...so reward them!

The boss was more difficult than I was thinking it would be (more inline with a group dungeon boss). My toon (stamsorc) is not yet geared up enough to solo a world boss and the same for this boss.

I tried 5-6 times. The closest I got was getting the boss down to 19%.

First bust was completely solo - didn't run around much, just tried to take on the boss.

The next attempts all tried with companion (but neither geared up - one tank, one healer). And lots of running around and breaking the grave stones when I could:
    • With tank companion, tank drew the aggro well, but didn't last long, at least with my clanfear, I could rez it anytime it died to join back in the fight ... note: for all the fights this toon could not sustain resources long enough to matter in the end
    • With healer companion, she stayed alive a little longer than the tank companion, but the same issues occurred in the end
    • I was using the tank companion when I managed to get the boss down to 19%
I think better gear on my toon (maybe for a solo build) plus better gear on my companions would have allowed me to take down this boss "almost solo".

    It was an interesting boss.

I plan on using a stamplar toon next time that has some solo gear (first with a tank companion, then next time just solo, and maybe even use werewolf, just to see how they fare)

    Thanks.

I did take a quick look at that thread after my first attempt, which was where I got the running around to avoid the aoes tip as well as the taking out the grave stones and staying away from the caldron in the center.

I don't expect my stamplar to have the same issues as my stamsorc. Stamplar is better geared for both staying alive and sustain.

I enjoyed the fight, thought it was entertaining and different. Went in solo, left solo, didn't think it was too difficult, however i'm an AOE build so trash just melt without me ever touching them.
Came back to help a level 47 struggling with it.
I'm looking forward to going in a few more times... Actually felt like difficult content for once outside of Vet dungeons.

It was funny. I didn’t pay attention to the boss loot, I just did my quest solo and got plunder skull reward. Then afterward I wanted to help lowbies do their quest and farm event loot too.... So I grouped with a lowbie, and midway through fighting I realized I didn’t actually get any loot from the boss earlier lol.

It’s a good fight but I doubt I’ll do it much. Imo it should give a new event set piece drop for killing the boss. Something like:

    Hallowjack’s Haunt (pumpkin appearance)
(1 item) Adds 548 Maximum Stamina, Adds 548 Maximum Magicka, Adds 603 Maximum Health
(2 items) Skeletons rise from the enemies you slay, attacking your enemies for 15 seconds. The skeleton’s basic attacks deal 220 Physical Damage. Up to 3 skeletons can be active at a time, which increases to 6 skeletons under the effect of the Witch’s Militia set. Scales off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage.

    Witch’s Militia
(2 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(5 items) Abilities which summon pets now only deal 65% of their original damage, but summon twice as many pets.
(overall is a 30% damage buff from the original tooltip and more pets)

Event-based sets would be cool to see.

You DO highlight the biggest problem with this event quest. There's no incentive for people to go back and help those that are struggling afterward. They get nothing, save the satisfaction of having helped, which isn't a good motivator for a lot of people. :P

The simplest thing they could have done imo: boss drops 3 plunder skulls for everyone, quest turn in gives a gold skull.

I completely disagree. They know there will be low level, low CP, new to ESO and experienced but not veteran geared players who would struggle trying to solo this boss. I bet there are way more who can't solo this boss than those who can.

If it was not meant to be grouped for it would be in a solo instance.

For some reason I'm hearing in my head Biggie's "Gimme the loot, gimme the loot", lol

That's one thing that is usually missing in the discussions about "veteran overland content", the rewards. Without a proper incentive there's no point in doing it the hard way. "Because of the challenge of it" doesn't last.

I think this is case for that, at least for me. I did it yesterday and today I see no reason in doing it again.

Only change to how I'd fight the boss after taking off my mythic would be casting Radiating Regeneration more. There was a lack of heavy hitting abilities in that fight and many attacks could be dodged. I brought Mistform just in case, but found myself not needing it at all.

Edit: I actually want to thank you for making that comment because it set me on a really fun path to see if this boss could be solo'd while wearing no armor and equipped with level 1 unenchanted and untraited weapons. The answer.... maybe. I didn't quite succeed but I got really really close. If someone pulls it off I'd love to see it done.

The crow boss pales in comparison to Vet Vateshran or even Vet Maelstrom bosses, both of which are solo content. Its difficulty is more like a normal vateshran boss but with excessive health.

Encouraging players to group to fight together is a good thing. The only issue is that there are no rewards for killing the boss itself.... meaning, no incentive. It really ruins the fight and I won’t be surprised if people soon struggle to find help for it.

Imo a unique event-based set would have been great .

To all the players griping about this quest-- I don't think it was meant for you (and me). It seems like it was meant to give the players who are always begging for more difficult content something to kill. I just left the pocket realm before killing it, since I'm not OP enough to kill it (even though I can solo plenty of world bosses), and I'm not interested in respeccing my build until the Armory comes out and I can save my current build first. Anyway, it seems like some players are enjoying this new boss, so I'm thinking those are the players it was meant for in the first place.
    [snip]

The quest and boss were meant for everyone, not just one group of people. There's literally no reason it shouldn't drop loot like every other boss in the game does, regardless of how hard or easy it is.

    [Edited for off topic discussion]
Not sure if that's what was intended at all - if it were, then they'd probably have made it a one-off and made the pre-requisite harder too.

Bit of a missed opportunity IMO - it's tough to beat (too tough for most solo) and other than the minor cheevo, there's nothing you couldn't get by running far easier content that takes less time (you could definitely run three delves in less time than this takes to beat solo).

Thank you both for your replies. When I posted that, I hadn't realized that it's possible to group with others before entering the pocket realm, so with that in mind I do now realize that it was intended for everyone's enjoyment-- either soloed by players who prefer to solo it, or fought in a group by players who prefer to fight it that way.

On the other hand, I do feel like ZOS has been trying to add more difficult content for players who want that. It's one of the things I really like about this game-- there's a variety of content, at differing degrees of difficulty, to (hopefully) appeal to players of all sorts.

As far as whether or not the boss should drop loot, in my opinion it isn't a boss like other bosses; I think it's more comparable to the boar king boss in the new Jester's Festival quest. I don't remember if that boss drops any loot, but I'm thinking not; I'm thinking all you get out of that fight are the rotten apples you take back to the quest giver so she can make a drink for you.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

Because I’m telling you now , If you can solo that boss you are categorically in the top 0.00 one percent, like it or not.

I’ve never thought of any of my characters as in the top 0.00 one percent, but my magicka no-pet sorcerer soloed it once but found the fight to be quite tedious. For those who want to do it more than once, I suggest saving the purple skulls and opening them the NEXT day after getting the daily quest again - I did that and ended up with a lot of feathers 🪶🎃

My character is a wood elf stamblade with 888 CP. My gear is five pieces of Briarheart with the rest being bits and pieces of other sets with some decent bonuses for me. All gear is purple or gold level.

I tried it my first time solo with Mirri as my healer to help. Kept my distance and moved constantly sniping the boss with my bow dodging its attacks and the adds as much as possible. Mirri died about half way through, and I got the crow down to about 25% before I got taken out as well.

After that, I wasn't in the mood to try it again solo, so I left and went back to the cave and immediately asked to join a group. Got one in about five minutes consisting of myself and Mirri, three other players and one other companion for a group of six, and we got the boss done in about another five minutes.

Got my 3 plunder skulls, and don't really care to do it again.

I'm just going to do my daily stuff and try to knock out a lot of WBs that I haven't done yet in various zones since this is a good time to do that when a lot of players are having to do other bosses to do the crow boss.
