I've not really had an issue with this style page. I spent around 1.7 million gold on treasure maps, bought 44 the other day and another 30 yesterday, (never bought a map for more than 30k). Dug up around 80 ish maps (including ones from reward boxes) over a couple of days and I've had 21 motifs drop.
11 to learn and the rest to sell on and only need 3 more to complete the motif.

So basically what you’re saying is it’s more productive to get rich in gold first before trying to get those motifs

142 Blackwood Legates' Coffers opened in the last three days.

22 maps, 6 of which came from the last batch of 30 coffers I opened and 5 of which I purchased at extravagant prices. (And yes, none of those were CE maps)

ZERO leads. ZERO. In three days of heavy, heavy farming.

I'm feeling genuine despair over having my time wasted so spectacularly by such a willfully cruel system. It's shameful. I'm ashamed of allowing myself to be treated with such disrespect.

4 more maps down the sink without dropping a lead. Current rate: 1/30

I start to consider it bugged in some way. Might try another toon for the next Blackwood treasure map I get.

Ah well, finally purchased the last missing page for only 135k.
I'm now up-to-date with all motifs, that took long enough.
Treasure hunting brought up only 1 page, spent 6 maps. Pointless.

Dang! I have 8 motif styles I'm still working on to be caught up, but I'm close!

I wish reading them would fill in the lead index. I too bought the ones I was missing, but now I have 5 Index entries for Blackwood that are left undiscovered.

Got my final lead this morning. Spent maybe 3 million gold on treasure maps in total. And I have around 4.5 million gold worth of Alaviri motifs now to sell. So cleared my leads and expect to make a profit. Now I just need to shell out gold to get the Sul Xun motif pages.

Although I don't do a lot of antiquities, since the release of Blackwood, I haven't had any lead for this motif.

Have the leads stop dropping? I have used 15 treasure maps over the last 12 hours or so and did not get a single one. I can see the guild traders are flooded with dug-up pages at the moment. so did ZoS turn off the leads drop temporarily or something?

Maybe there is some sort of cooldown? Or again some very bad RNG :/
3 more maps brought up 2 pages for me.

I've read about it in a thread about monster trophy achievements. Every time you log in, loot tables are generated for that session. It affects monster drops and effectively makes it so that you'll either repeatedly get certain drops, or not at all in hours of constant grind. It seems to affect even the treasure maps. In some sessions I get a lead every 2-3 maps, in others I can use 15-20 maps and get nothing at all. The only problem is that you can't know for sure what kind of loot table you got until you use at least 3 maps.

Here is the post explaining that cruel system:

Opened more Blackwood maps, still not a single lead. It's like the lead drop was removed from the game for this zone. I got a lead in the Reach, though. So its not totally broken.

My take on them putting motif leads from Treasure Maps only is that if you get a map in a zone it should give a map from that zone. Let me grind Chests or other containers in a zone so I can at least grind for the Treasure Maps. Otherwise its RNG to get a Treasure Map in the first place, RNG to get a Blackwood Treasure Map, RNG to get a Lead, and RNG to get a lead for something you haven't gotten before. And I know that last one can partially be circumvented by not finishing the lead until you have them all but that means you only got 30 days do finish the whole thing which some people can't do. Just RNG on RNG on RNG. At least remove one of them.

If I have understood how it works correctly not digging the leads is actually counterproductive.

The way I understand it if you get a lead from a chest for a page you already have a lead for then you get nothing. It doesn't 're-roll' and give you a different lead, it just gives you nothing at all.

At least you can dig and sell duplicates, this is better than not getting anything no?

Hmmm I heard the opposite. Anyone got source for either claim? Curious now.

Since I'm not willing to pay 10k or more for a treasure map, I opened about a dozen blackwood treasure maps during the event. I got one lead and I think it gave me shields, a piece I won't ever use. I learned it of course, but overall the drop rate for maps was very disappointing for me. I opened A LOT of purple legate boxes.

I'm the source of the claim that deliberately keeping duplicate leads doesn't increase the chance of getting other leads. I don't think anybody can come up with large enough sample size due to scarcity of maps, I only managed to test it with Khenarthi's Roost maps before and the method of not excavating never improved my chances of getting the last missing motif page or even the tapestry furnishing that can drop from treasure maps too. The only thing it did for me was saving some time that would be otherwise spent running to excavation sites and trashing unwanted pages.

I did get the complete Akaviri motif from maps alone, spent around 850k (PC/NA market) on maps priced under 20k. I decided to dig up all duplicates right away because selling them would more than refund the cost of maps. I didn't want to risk missing out on pages that do sell for a good amount of gold. In the process I also discovered that the CE (collector's edition) maps have an entirely different loot table. They don't drop any leads but they have a guaranteed piece of companion equipment instead.

The reason why I'm suspecting that keeping leads doesn't help is because there is a precedent in the form of battlegrounds rewards. There are several styles (126 pages total), each of which becomes harder to complete the more pages are already collected. And this is because the game rolls rewards only once; if the result would be a duplicate, it's simply discarded and not replaced with anything else. People who do a lot of battlegrounds can confirm it. They've also been asking for this system to be changed, to pick rewards only from the pool of missing pages, and since 2017 they never received an answer. And it's not different for motifs sourced from daily quests, DLC dungeons and trials either.

I've never heard of this game rerolling rewards/loot for anything. Or excluding already owned items from the loot table, maybe with exception of pet and memento fragments from some event boxes, like recently the voriplasm pet. Update 32 is coming out in 2 or 3 weeks now. It will come with a brand new loot curation system but only for boss loot. When asked about other sources of equipment, such as various reward boxes, currency-bought boxes and treasure chests, Rich Lambert said that the system will not affect such sources because they want to maintain some randomness. I take it to mean that treasure map chests are intentionally dropping completely random loot, including antiquity leads, and that we're not meant to game this system in our favor.

With Akaviri legs I experienced that if you have 2 (stacked) identical leads in scryable with the status "available" and you do scry you will see those 2 now stacked as "in progress".
When I excavated I got both Akaviri legs Crafting Motifs stacked as addition to my inventory.

The obvious problem with buying someone else’s duplicate pages is that you don’t get credit for scrying and digging or a codex entry for it.

That’s extremely important for (I’m guessing) most of us who bother to level up those skills.

So those that buy them maybe don’t have the skills or don’t want to level them.

Sometimes I buy things that require ridiculous grinds to obtain, if the price is right, even if I have time to do them. I lose nothing except gold and a bunch of wasted time. These ancestral motifs don’t give you everything if you just buy them.

The whole system with tying the leads to treasure maps is farcical imo. Drop rate for maps outside the event is abysmally low. Same for getting the lead if you actually get the map. If I get the lead from a map I get, great. However I'm neither buying the map nor the motif. Too expensive. Though I may make an exception for a high value master writ.

5 more Blackwood maps, one lead (horray 🙄).
Bought a couple of Skyrim/Reach/Blackreach maps, zero leads.
Also got my first map for the Deadlands during the event, ofc no lead dropped.

    4/49.

I suspect some kind of cooldown they have in place. But that’s just like, my opinion man.

Friends send me maps and I get a couple leads and then nothing….like it just stops for the day.
    Of course I like steak. I'm a Nord, aren't I?
