    Oh .... redo of Murkmire?
This is another DLC that people aren't completely excited for. I loved Murkmire personally, but not too enthused about spending the next 6 months in Oblivion. Kinda surprised, unless Blackwood sales have been that bad.

I'll probably get banned for this post but meh. I'm still wondering why I didn't get this email. Unless subscribers no longer get mail.
Yeah, I can see the logic there. Certainly not exciting as a reward if we subscribe, and not that exciting for non-subs either since... well it's an incredibly oppressive looking zone. I don't know why ZOS decided on it tbh.

"Remember Coldharbour and how much everyone loved how long that zone went on for, and how our player metrics show that people just love going back there and exploring every nook and cranny of that gorgeous zone? No? Oh... well I've got bad news about our next DLC then..."

I always thought there was a lot of potential for something special here, given they were saying "you'll never want to leave the Deadlands" when they unveiled Blackwood and teased the Q4 location. It made me wonder if they were going to reveal something special like this is where Falinesti had gone, and that amongst the surrounding hellscape the tree city had created a bastion of unparalleled beauty, and we'd be diving into its lore and solving a mystery of how it ended up here in the first place, and defending it from waves of Deadric armies. But nope, nothing like that. It's literally just spending the next 6 months in lava and storm zones decorated with black spikes and hanging corpses. I sub to the game and I still have zero interest in checking the zone out. And I adored Murkmire.

Did you guys get the email with the spoiler?

    Can’t complain about that :)

Edit: would have preferred a new companion, but what we’re getting is no extra work so makes sense.

Please spoil it, tell us what it is.

My guess is, free Q4 DLC. Like how Murkmire was given for free during its launch via daily rewards.

That will not entice me to buy Blackwood, even if it is only $20.

I was going to add, as someone else has said, that this would just be a poke in the eye to anyone that subs. I would think a majority of players are those that pay for ESO+ and get "free" dlc access, this reward would not benefit them at all.

Well obviously the email was sent out by mistake.. and those two girls are probably really excited about letting people know so i don't want to ruin their day.

    Just guess.

The only point I would raise is that the "true ending" of the year-long story requires completing Blackwood and Deadlands main questlines. If you don't care about that, you won't miss much.

I suspect that the DLC will be an extra reward for those who have Blackwood by this event but I don’t think it’s the hyped surprise reward because it really isn’t anything for those who maintain ESO+ and I can’t see why they would want to disappoint the customers who probably pay the most or at least most regularly. I certainly have no objection to ZOS making the DLC freely available to everyone who participates in the event or indeed whatever they wish to do in that regard that they deem best for the game, marketing, etc. But since they’ve hyped up the reward, it must surely be something for everyone, maybe not something everyone will like (probably impossible unless it’s currency like Crowns!) but it will surely be something for everyone participating. :)

Edit: I stand corrected. I’m rather baffled… Cool to give away Deadlands DLC, but as a hyped mystery prize that the community needs to work for? Deadlands looks cool, but I’m already paying for it, ESO+ since I started playing, so it’s not really a reward for subscribers.

    Not really.

With ESO+ you only have temporary access to the DLC, once you stop paying, you lose it. If you get it from the event (or buy it) it's unlocked permanently.

Then you have some people who were planning on getting the collectors edition, they in particular are actually losing out, going by the datamine the mount that came with it was a nightmare bear mount and now it seems I won't beable to get it because it simply wont be worth buying by itself.

I don't play this game without plus. Its unplayable for me without a craft bag so yes really. I will get nothing I wasnt going to get in the first place. Not gonna go thru and do an achievement on alts for nothing.

I think most subscribers stay subscribed, though. It's hard to do without the craft bag once you have it.

(And while I know lots of non-subscribers pay a lot toward the game, you'd think ZOS would want to keep their subscribers happy. ???)

which is great if you don't maintain sub or don't sub at all. but there are a lot of us that sub constantly whenever we play. Kind of stinks to be us, and it did a major blow to my desire to do anything with this event.

100% agree. I keep my sub going even when I’m taking a temporary break. Why would I play without ESO+??? For me, no ESO+ is like trial mode. Why would I want to gimp my experience and play without access to everything, inventory space, furnishing slots, craft bag, etc.?

The message is that ESO+ subscribers are second-class, though. You'd think they could have come up with something that would have worked for subscribers and non-subscribers.

Anyway, I'm happy for the players who will get the DLC and aren't subscribers. It is indeed an awesome gift for them.

Paying for eso plus for the year …. $180
Buying the Blackwood expansion in June …$40
Getting yet another reward that you already pay for …. Priceless.

The message I got today is that retention of players is not as important as selling the chapter each year, even if that means you have to discount it at 50% and give the 4th quarter content away for free just to increase the numbers.

No point in doing the achievements on alts anyways. No company wants the bad press that comes with, “sorry we didn’t have enough players participating. This is the first year we couldn’t make it to the final reward. Always next year!!!”

Definitely not something that the subscribers need to work for. We get the content either way. But for promoting a “community effort”, this is not a reward equally for the community.

Subbing for the year is only $139.99, but yeah I am right there with ya. I sub by the year, buy the expansions, usually the collectors version and spend a couple hundred bucks on crowns when they go on sale. Really underwhelmed.
