Quest completion from random other players

Is there any way around having random players complete quests for me while you don't even see the boss?
I'm really pissed off again, had to quit the game because I'm too irritated to enjoy it, I haven't heard half of the monologues in my quests yet again, I don't know what's happening in the story because the quests get completed for me while I don't even participate. The range at which quests get completed for you is abysmally huge, you don't hear or see the boss, but your quest gets completed anyway. I'd rather wait for the event to respawn then not seeing it at all.

As far as I'm aware nothing of that sorts can happen period, you should get at least one hit on the "boss" to mark it as participated, generally you just wait your turn if someone just did it before you.

Or you mean using random dungeon finder for group dungeons and trying to do quests there while 3 other players moving forward? That's the only place for that I can think of.

Nope, ordinary open world quests. And it happens a lot, you don't need to hit anything, as long as you are near, your quest gets completed for you by someone who's running a little ahead of you. No party needed.

Other people complaining about the same thing:

The forum is full of complaints about it, if you have never encountered it you're either the luckiest person alive or run through quests without listening to them, just finishing everything asap.

I'm surprised it's a known issues and not fixed then tbh.

Surprisingly I've been reading / listening absolute most of them. I've done all the quests but one the game has to offer up to date. Been doing all the chapters/dlc but one at their release date (meaning tens of players running same quest stages in crowds) and I'm pretty sure none of that happened to me at least in recent 2-3 years where my memory is the freshest... Qualifying me for a luckiest quester ever, eh?:)

Will read other threads later to get an idea where it was happening and such just for the info, but it might still worth reporting via feedback/bug section in-game at the very least.

This has happened to me and it is the worst possible game design that we can't even do our own quests while solo?? I consider it a bug because it can't be on purpose, right?

Shame it's really the game's design, has been for years.
It completely ruined my prologue experience yesterday. I paid for a chapter to experience the story and I don't get to experience it because other players advance the quests for me. [snip]

I don't like it aswell. I started to be afraid of players doing the same quest, so I always wait to be alone, just to be sure I will experience the quest properly.
It did happen a few times in Auridon plague quest and some other places I forgot, mainly in starting zones.

    Those threads are old.

Those threads are discussing Group Dungeons and World Boss quests.

Those are working as intended. If you want to enjoy all the dialog in a dungeon, then go with a pre made group. With World Bosses, try to do those outside of events so there is not a crowd beating on the boss
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

It did happen in this quest: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Teldur's_End
I just entered the building and quest was done because someone else upstairs just killed the boss I mean the main villian you are suppose to kill in the quest. And it did happen a few other times. I didn't encounter this prior of one Tamriel, so I 'm not sure what those old threads are about.

To be fair, that's the one I immediately thought of. And I can't think of many others. I don't think it's a general problem - as others have said, you've got to get a hit in most times - but there seems to be a small sub category of quest where someone else can complete it the moment you zone in if they get the kill . I vaguely remember having a similar experience in bleakrock maybe, not very often though. I suspect it's to do with the way the quest instance is coded. Certainly suboptimal but i don't think it's anything like all the quests.

This can happen on a lot of quests. It's mostly where say there is an event where you fight waves of enemies then a "boss". Anybody there is in the same "instance" and can finish the quest for you if you are in the vicinity. An example would be when summoning Balreth in Davon's Watch. If you are in the tomb and somebody fights off the waves and summons him it completes it for you.

If this is angering the OP to the point where he doesn't want to play the game. It sounds like they want Skyrim rather than this game.

Wait, are you saying that other players who are not grouped with you are completing your quests? I've never experienced that except in imperial city, sometimes if I'm close to another player who picks up an item in the same quest I'm on, I get credit for that item. But it happens rarely. You have to be really close to them.

In groups, my experience has been that when someone else in the group has the same quest as me, they can pick up the items around the edge of the world boss that are needed to complete the quest and I get credit for picking them up, on many but not all WB quests. But I still have to hit the world boss to get credit for killing it.

    What a weird glitch.

Happened to me again yesterday. I was doing a delve quest and before I got to the boss someone else completed it and I got credit. Never even saw the boss or got to hear the dialogue.

Yep, it's something that happens, although in a "random" way.
I play solo most of the time and sometimes I find me "awarded" by a dungeon boss kill and/or an achievement, usually when a group is in the nearabouts. Not a frequent thing, but it may happen.
