There Isn't much I don't like about the TES lore, but I hate, loathe, and detest Dweebmer.

From the idiotic mechanical mounts to the TDS on display at clockwork city, they could wipe them out of the lore and I wouldn't shed a tear. Back in TES arena they called them dwarfs, and they looked like Dwarfs...now it's just some cliche of the Iron Kingdoms setting.

Why do people want to know what happens? In games that literally take place after ESO it is a mystery so it would make sense for it not to be revealed yet. If anything it would be revealed in the next singleplayer TES game or something.

You don't have to want everything solved and all mystery removed to want to explore the Dwemer.

Good. Imo they're a mystery that should forever remain one. It would make the world less if ww knew what happened to them.

Disagree. Learning what actually happened to them would be cool on its own. It has been a mystery for every game, and while that is cool, there's a point where I kinda just want to know. Part of the fun of mysteries is learning the truth. If there are no new hints regarding what might have happened to them, then what's the point of the mystery anymore? Besides, the writers can always just make new mysteries. Crazy things have happened so long ago in the lore, and more crazy things will continue to happen in the future of the lore.

Even then, I'm not saying we absolutely need to know what happened to them. Tbh I really just want a game or something set in a time when they were still around. That alone would be a very unique setting.

No, a world with no mysteries in it is dull, flat and utterly unbelievable. Part of the fun of mysteries is well, the mystery. It's that we don't know. The moment the answers is know it becomes meaningless and boring. How often do you reread a mystery novel for the plot? My guess is next to never, because the mystery is no solved. You know what happened. There's no point.

I never said anything about having no mysteries. I mentioned introducing new mysteries. In the real world, mysteries do actually get solved. It isn't always the case, but it does happen.

I have a, "**** or get off the pot" opinion of the Dwemer. If they want to reveal what happened to them, that's cool. If not, that's cool too...just stop bringing them up all the time.

That's fine if we never explore why the Dwemer disappeared. I think the only thing I'd love is to travel back in time like we did in other quests and meet some, but as for why they disappeared a lot of us already know.

Just like what Rinaldo said about that Morthal quest, pretty big hint. Plus we know that the Brass God has some amazing powers cause every other time it was summoned it caused a Dragon Break.

I am a little sad that we'll never see Akavir though, seems Todd Howard wants that to remain a mystery too. Even though they, at one point, had a story for Skyrim where Uriel invaded from Akavir

Indeed. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could explore the many Dwemer ruins and learn about their history and lore, basically ad infinitum, while never fully uncovering the full story, thus keeping it an everlasting mystery? A true win-win situation for the explorers and the proponents of the mystery alike, right?

Do you think it would be possible to implement that into the Elder Scrolls games at all?

    Oh, wait... :p

I think it's a far too important, too big of a chunk of TES lore to not be saved for the mainline games. They will eventually focus on them, maybe not entirely because a mystery is always good, but I guess it's a thing for a proper TES sequel

Dwemer stuff is by far my fav in ESO!

Not only Skyrim, our own ESO quests have possible explanations of what happened to them. I like this approach instead of having everything explained to us in a plain, direct or even cinematic way.

I was worried that they said so about dwemer-themed content. Hoping for dwemer tonal magic skill line and Kemel-Ze chapter in the future.

P.S. I'm sure they just don't wanna reveal everything about dwemer because they fail to create non-lame story about their fate.

The way I interpreted what they said, we also won't get things like this.

It's just gonna be the occasional Dwemer ruin to explore and never anything more than what we already get.

What I miss, and I was so hoping would be a part of Vvardenfell or at least expanded upon in this game was all the Dwemer Labs we go to explore in Red Mountain. Those labs have to be there in the time of ESO.

Dwemer audacity with the testing of Azura's omnipotence led them to the path to their disappearance. A settling of scores... whether she has the power to permanently bind them within her realm remains to be seen.

What we learn of the dwarfs depends on who is writing the fiction/lore in the furture. I do enjoy the mystery of the Dwemer, but they, and their disappearance was written all the way back in Arena to be explained/written later, maybe, someday....here is Ted Peterson explaining it directly at 1:23:00: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AegrlefXuwE&t=4980s

Yeah. all the interview says is that ESO will never have them. Which is fine. I think the main titles of the series should be left to explore the greater mysteries of the Elder Scrolls. And having the Dwemer shoehorned into a chapter of ESO would be pretty disappointing.

    Wasn't that obvious without mentioning?

I liked that part the most tbh:
GI: It's honestly amazing to see the collaboration, especially with the line between the gaming community and the devs being smaller than ever before. You've got Discord, Reddit, Twitter; it seems like collaborations with these large communities are almost inevitable.

Seems like journalists have zero idea about how it's all going really lmao.
It terrifies me. It terrifies me to think about losing the pulse of the community and feel like they might think we're not paying attention.

Oh man he's also seems serious 🤦

This is why I never read gaming websites anymore. I don't blame Rich; he's got a job to do. But did this "journalist" do *any* research before they did the interview. Like, spend 3 minutes on the forums, or speak to a single person that played the game?

On the one hand, I respect this move by Todd Howard. He's one of those people who introduced them into the main series and he knows their topic better. This is why they should be developed by him and his team in the future, while TESO should have only a few dungeons without a very-very deep explanation of their lore.

On the other hand, why won't Todd come to ZOS for some time to control how Dwemers are maintained in this game and it's DLC? First we have Dwemers, then we have their Numidium, then we have Dragon Break and at last we have metaphysical lore. And with this metaphysical lore we have an explanation of many strange things that happen in TESO I rubbed my fingers writing about.

TESO has a great, GREAT potential for exploring and expanding some metaphysical lore. It has many problems which can be fixed... only by proper explanation. Yes, TESO is just a game, but TES is an art of lore. Why not making it richer? I think that Todd should take his part in TESO's lore development too if he knows how to do it properly. It would be a very beautiful move by him because by now he only prohibits and declines most of the things about this game giving nothing about these series in return... For almost ten years!
Even though TESO is a great game, it suffers from continuity issues that may hurt narrative experience and confuse lore-caring players. If we want TESO to be a decent exemplar in The Elder Scrolls series, these problems need to be fixed. Please, acknowledge with this information more in this thread. Thank you.

I'm glad we won't find out what really happened to them. It was one of the great unknowns that has been part of TES history and it shouldn't be spoiled ever.

Guys, you do know there's a middle ground between "never show you anything at all" and "explain everything in extreme and excessive detail"

We could have a time travel where we got a hint of the decision making that lead to this decision. We could overhear behind a closed door if they don't want to show them.

We could meet a stranded Dwemer settlement, like we already met a sole Dwemer in Morrowind. They could be stranded far away from their ruins or homes, due to magickal interference. Thus you learn a little about Dwemer without giving away too much about their culture or all their tools.

    Etc.

They can explore what happened with the Dwemer a little more without giving away all of the mystery.

Like we did with the lone snow elf in the Skyrim DLC?

Sounds like they're just talking about ESO.

There are many mysteries in TES lore, and they could always create new ones. Fallinesti, the Dwemer, Akavir, Atmora, Aldmeris, Pyandonea, the various unexplored realms of Oblivion, unknown Daedric princes, etc.

I would be fine with any being explored, though it would be best to do so in a mainline ES game. (ES3 delved a lot into Dwemer lore - they even had ghosts and a LIVE DWEMER - no reason why another ES game couldn't do the same).
