Even as an avid Dunmer and Altmer fan, i still think they're cool. I just don't identify with them, so I don't really play with them. Stat wise, they're actually really good for healers and tanks, so it's not like they're bad. Lorewise, they're quite captivating - Murkmire and Shadowfen have some solid stories in them.

Speaking as someone who routinely insults Argonians in zone chat, every faction has their punching bag race. For me, I play exclusively pact, and even worse is that one of my 2 mains who I regularly RP with is a Telvanni. So of course a Telvanni is going to talk smack about Argonians, and as a Nord I'm just looking to cause banter with someone. My Nord insults everything even her pet, mount, and herself. (I even started giving people items in zonechat if they could come up with a good insult against me).

That said, the DC punching bags are the Orcs, which are suitable for their role as a pariah race. That said, be careful of what you say around orcs, since some will laugh with you, but some will put you on a list and if it gets too bad they may enter into a bloodcurse with you. Bosmer are the AD punching bag, and probably the universal punching bag ones too. This from my observation comes from the history of many of the clowns and silly npc's in past Elder Scrolls games being Bosmer, like the Adoring Fan, Fargoth, Tarhiel ect... That said, most people have some respect for Bosmer too when they insult them, so usually the Bosmers themselves are in on the joke, and it's not really a reflection of Bosmers as a whole, but rather the silly but memorable few.

I think you mean you can't put your personality/traits onto something that looks like what khajiit and argonians do.

That is not what I was saying at all. The way they look is only part of it. As I also said, I can't connect with their personalities and demeanors either.

This thread is asking why people hate Argonians. I don't hate them but I would never play one for the reasons I stated.

I got confused because I said I put MY personality traits onto argonians/khajiit characters, and then you said you don't because you can't connect with ''animal personalities'' or whatever, which implies you're saying my personality traits are that of animals (which I'm pretty sure you weren't saying because wtf) or you're not getting what I'm saying.

I brought this up to begin with because I wanted to express the way in which I related to how you relate to your characters or whatever.
''I don't identify with my characters as much as my characters identify with me.''
was the original thing you said that I quoted, and that is absolutely true for me. I was saying that I relate to that, because my characters also identify with me (not the other way around), just in personality traits only.

For me, all that matters is content being cleared. If you can do it as an Orc that can put Arnold Schwarzenegger to shame, wearing a pink dress...more power to you.

Frankly I'd be more leery of the Thalmor RPer. The whole attempted genocide, and the training college.

I apologize for the confusion, and I think I may have misunderstood what you said. I did not mean anything about your personality. Only that for my characters to identify with me they need to have things in common with me. I have no connection whatsoever with Khajiit or Argonians so I don't see how they could identify with me any more than I could identify with them.

Did I clear up the confusion or just make it worse?

There is a big difference between hating something and liking something the least.

That being said, I don't know why I don't like Argonians that much. I guess they just aren't very relatable. Real people don't have this dynamic that Argonians have with the Hist with anything else. That might be the reason but it's not really something I can point with certainty towards.

That being said, I actually like Redguards less because I kind of find them boring. Mind-sword-wielding atom-splitting samurai that are not from this timeline are just kind of... too much. Their religion, while unique, bores me and I can't take the funny names like "Tall Papa" seriously. I liked them more when I knew less about them to be honest. Maybe TES6 or a future chapter can change my mind on them.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

If a character consciously or subconsciously shows traits of yourself, then it doesn't really matter what race he belongs to, as the connection is primarily about the traits and not externals. But depending on how visually inclined a person is, the appearance can of course play a role in whether you build a connection or not. There is also a reason why I only play elves for example.

Thing is, there are no traits of player character that are already there. All the traits are projected by the player to the player character. They may as well be projected on a doornail, on a snowflake, on a rug. They have nothing to do with the nature of the object they are projected to (including race if applicable).

I agree. I am very visually inclined. For me the faces of cats and lizards represent cats and lizards. I can't find a connection there at all. I play Elves because they have a humanoid face that I can identify with. And I've played an Orc in the past, for the same reason.

I don't agree for the reason I stated above. When I see a cat or a lizard, I see the traits of a cat and a lizard. If I can't identify with that I will never form a connection with that character.

That college thing broke my heart, even as an elf-lover. Like here's this nice college tucked into a pleasant looking area. And these poor souls are having their identities beaten out of them.

I actually liked what the quest showed, the dark heart in the Dominion. Sure Ayren is trying to reform things, but is very much the outsider. Also, Summerset gives an even deeper look into aldmeri as a whole.
Finally, the alliance names just don't jive. Pact, Covenant both have connotations of forces joining. Dominion, literally means to control.

Not trying to say that any are without blemish, but some stains run deeper than others.

The Sun-In-Shadow quests in VVardenfell are great as you help an Argonian viewed with disdain by Dunmer work to break the barriers in Telvanni culture and achieve her dreams to become a respected wizard. It shows how cunning an Argonian can be, definitely not a race to be underestimated.

Oh man, great story. That quest chain is up there amongst my favourites.
