Oh noes! The company who pays employees to design, make, and run a game are asking you to pay for it! That's all I heard reading this.

Guys please don't turn everything upside down.
I want to make it clear:

    1) Sorry for misleading you with deffenition of P2W (as i said, english is not my native) it's more closely to PAYWALL.

    2) I don’t blame ZOS for how they distribute content. Actually i like it. That is one of many reason why i like this game. However, this time in new chapter, in the first time, they are trying to sell me something for which I have already paid.

I will ask you simple question:
How is it called, when i'm trying to obtain some object for example Mythic item, and then i facing problem that actually i could get only 4/5 part which i need(because to obtain last lead i need to buy full update in which i'm not interesting in)? Is it PAYWALL or i don't unerstand something?

    3) This is not about play style, i don't try to say how you should play, i don't force you to buy or not to buy. I just want to say that such move when they throwing old mechanics into a new chapter - is wrong and manipulative.

Actually, I understand what you are saying on having to purchase an area to have access to the last mythic item. A similar situation (but without cost) are items in the Imperial City where I may not care to access but the last mythical item is located there, also. People who don't play Group Dungeons have the same problem.

But these other 4 parts are also new, regardless of whether they are to be found in old zones or if they would be exclusively located in the new zone. It ends up being a new item tied to the purchase of the new chapter, what is totally logical. It goes about a new "product" which needs to be purchased, regardless where you find the single parts of it.

Edit: And if you are otherwise not interested in the new zone, then you just cannot get the item.

If you want access to all content in order to be the best at everything and to complete everything a game has to offer then I'm sorry but you can't do it by freeloading, additional stuff has to be paid for one way or another. Game developers run a commercial business, they're not a charity.

Fortunately there is no compulsion to buy anything beyond the original game (which comes with all manner of additional content these days depending on the version you buy), after that it's entirely down to the player as to whether they subscribe or not, use the Crown Store or not, or buy any of the additional content.

It all sounds a bit like going to a restaurant, sitting down and ordering a starter, and then complaining to the manager that the main course and dessert are behind a paywall  !

They havnt been working on new stuff because they have been actually fixing the game. Thank goodness

    2 patches to fix lag
1 patch to fix game size and make it quicker to download patches
1 patch to fix PvP proc sets

Also i remember seeing a poll where the majority of people said they dont want new stuff but the devs to fix the game. So they actually listened to community feedback. Idk why people are suprised that the devs have been working on fixing the game. And yes some of the changes havnt been well recieved like removing proc sets in PvP. But they are at least trying.

First, it should be mentioned that we, as players, could not get the "Chapter of Blackwood" by purchasing it in the game, only for real money. It's very important aspect.

You want additional content paid for with in-game Gold?

Do you even remember what Expansions are? Do you believe everyone working at ZOS deserves to stop getting their paychecks? They should just be making you more game content for free?

Perhaps there's a belief that their paychecks should be made in in-game gold  !

I always wonder why people who have no interest in questing and exploring decide to play an Elder Scrolls game and then complain that the main content of an expansion is questing and exploring when the entire franchise is based on QUESTING AND EXPLORING.

The rest is just bonus stuff.

No, you're not the only one.

I do the same, and moreover I don't then complain that I've finished it in half an hour through ignoring most of it, riding my mount between the points on my add-on map and porting to a friend when necessary, all on just the one character. I take my time and aim to do it all on multiple characters on two accounts and two servers. There are months of entertainment, all for a few quid over the subscriptions I pay. A lot of the bonus stuff is actually in the base game update anyway.

Same, I buy it for the quests, stories and lore. To me that's already worth the money as, all the rest is just bonus entertainment.

I think the word paywall is thrown at everything in games one has to pay for these days, I'd love everything to be free too but nothing in life is ever free, and they're not a charity. Take the voice acting alone, the game's storyline is fully voiced, down to random unrelated NPC's often having whole dialogue trees just for the sake of world building. Those voice actors gotta get paid somehow.

And well, I can't really find a way to complain about them releasing a chapter every year for a game I like enough to play regularly. I wish every game I enjoyed did that.

Also I'd say if you're enough into ESO to think about meta stuff so much, which is of course completely unnecessary to complete the game's content or be good/successful at it, wouldn't that more than warrant buying the latest stuff anyways because it's a game you play and enjoy enough to go to super high end leaderboard stuff with?

See, as much as I hate the idea of mythics, I'm actual alright with them releasing strong new shinies for the chapters (within reason).. What I HATE and why I won't waste my time farming them is that I know that once the initial bulk of people have bought the chapter, they will nerf the items into worse than a useless state. THAT, to me, is unethical.

You have 2 choices. Either a game goes stale with no new content, or very little.
Or have new content on some semi regular basis that you pay for with cash. After a set period, say a year then other purchase options may come up.

It's been like this for me since playing EQ back in 1999, and many mmos since. Seen both camps.

Dunno anyone got an example of some successful variation? I could not think of one.

I'm actually looking forward to playing the new chapter. Unfortunately, I'm too cheap at this time to buy it (I need to renew ESO Plus next week). But if it goes on sale, I'll pick it up. I'm one of those that playing the dungeons solo, so a companion would be a nice add.
Companions in their current form are about as useful as a non combat pet, so not going to be much help to you without major changes. I ran nFG1 with Bastian and he was dead 90% of the time i was in combat. Takes a hit like a wet paper sack.

The alternative is that they place all five parts in the new zone. It is a new item and placing all parts in the new zone would make it clear the new item is attached to the new zone. There is a very good reason why they do not do this. New content alone isn't enough to keep an MMO running for the long term. Players need to repeat content. Placing four of the parts in other zones send players back to those zones. That is good for the game.

The item is a new item associated with the new zone. You can find pieces in other zones because ZoS wants us to spend time going back to those zones. The psijic line did the same thing. Made us go back to old zones. Future content will come with some other dynamic that will cause us to want to go back to existing zones. A long term healthy player population depends on it.

I don't mind ZoS releasing new more powerful items with their newer chapters as an incentive, but it's not cool to release a new item that is similar to an already existing item and then nerf the existing item so that the new item becomes the clear winner.

Hollowfang is a magicka sustain set that is popular among magicka raid groups, been out for about 2 years now. They are releasing another sustain set (Stone-Talker's Oath set) which restores both stam and magicka to the group and it has a larger range than Hollowfang set. So it has pretty good selling points already, especially for stam groups.
    8LLdmXz.png

Then ZoS decides to nerf hollowfang set by 30% (no reasons given). This is not cool.

I'm confused, the first half of your post seems to be saying that the problem is there's no reason to buy Blackwood, then the second half of your post is all about feeling pressured to buy it because it does include useful items. Which of these two is the problem?
The problem is in ZOS sales policy. Since last year I was afraid that they would manipulate by placing OP Mythic items in new chapter. That's exactly what happened. And i just want to reveal this problem. I know a lot of people who will buy BW just because of Mythics(they artificially forced to do it), this is not only my problem. And the problem is in manipulation, that ZOS don't provide us something that worth 2 pay full price( really i don't know person who will buy this chapter because it's main feature) they provide us with content which we already bought and thus create paywall.

Again, as a few posters have said, if you dont think there is any value or enough value for you to justify buying it, then dont buy. If you think there is something in there that could/would interest you then buy it. Easy peasy. No one is forcing you to buy it. You can still play the base game and other dlc/chapters that you have paid for in the past if you dont buy BW.

    Much ado about nothing.
