Queen Aryenn is a deliberately crafted game feature--she was made the was she is to give PCs of that faction someone inspiring to go to war for (the three factions war).

Trouble is, doing so, she had to break with/take a stand against most of her people's culture and beliefs. She is a decent person--but they had to break a lot to turn her into such an Inspiring Figure.

Each of the factions needed leads that could be inspiring--she was constructed, deliberately, to be so. There's nothing wrong with that. I just...find her a bit tropey, though I did love the questline with her and her brother, and how she handled it.

Well, I can see your point and it's most likely true. The problem is, they way it was handled made her judgement look rather bad. She comes across as over-idealistic in her quest to integrate the Dominion races into one happy family - especially as it looks like the Altmer have to bear most of the cost and trouble. No wonder a faction like Veiled Inheritance arose.

On the other hand, it makes her a more realistic character with true flaws, and makes the Summerset Isles' internal conflict very believable. I also actually like the Dominion questline this far (having played somewhat over half of it) and Ayrenn's role in it. As she is written it's like she was having a rough start and could develop into a truly great queen with time. That's why I like her more than dislike.

As for Raz again, someone called him "narcissistic". That's accurate and why I tend to dislike him. Let's compare to another obviously competent and confident recurring character, Crafty Lerisa. There are obvious similarities with the two characters, but also some important differences that make Lerisa a better character for me. She jokes often too, but in a more ironic, low-key mode so it doesn't get annoying. Also, she doesn't boast of her skills at every turn like Raz but simply goes and does some quite awesome things. The result is a character that is much more likable.

One other poster's theory of Raz being a "DM's pet" is quite probable. Also, for a writer it is quite hard to get this kind of cocky character type just right.

Its the translation. There is no word for "I" in Ta'agra. Khajiit have to pick that up from other Races.

And no Razum isnt really all that great, especially after meeting his family in Anequina. He's full of himself and a player. I feel bad for his brother and the girls swooning for him.

Raz is another dashing & charming rogue, a Han Solo type character.

It’s a classic kind of character that people immediately love.

I want another Shadow-Scale, I want a character like the Naga from Murkmire. Those guys were a breath of fresh air from all the “Charming” humanoid characters.

I’m not a fan. He talks a lot of talk but disappears when any action takes place only to be leaning against a wall at the end of it all acting like he was a big help. A lot better NPCs that actually help.

How can a person develop dislike for an entire species of animal... Just how? ;(

Simple really, as I kid I had a very hard time dealing with those animals and no matter how cute they were I always found myself getting some kind of injury from them. The day I was forced to feed one by a family member, and accidentally cut myself open with the lid of the cat food can, I had enough of them. I don't like how they cuddle up to me, and I don't like how they leave hair everywhere, I don't like how they hiss and claw things, I hate how they kill the beautiful birds around my house, and I can keep going on. I hate cats.

My favourites are Raz, Abnur, Naryu and Cadwell because they have the most distinctive characters. Good or bad they feel more like real people.

That's part of the reason I hated the Summerset storyline. Raz had always been about sneaking around and tricking people and in Summerset he just seemed to run around shouting and threatening everyone. It all felt out of character and jarring.

He actually talks about that briefly after he has to get particularly tough with someone for the Queen's justice. He says he actually really dislikes that part of his job but that it's sometimes necessary for a Queen's Eye to do.
He says "Treason and the Queen's justice are serious business.
Raz has been forced into this role on rare occasions, but he never seeks it out or looks forward to wielding the blade. A necessary part of my job, yes?"

I kinda like that you can see very clearly his deep devotion and love of Queen Aryenn whenever you quest for him for long, despite all his jokes. He believes in her and her mission and is willing to do things he's not comfortable doing or to even die to serve her. I think it makes him more relatable. Razum-dar has a preferred way of doing things and a clear personality, but he'll doing anything that is necessary of him for his Queen and good friend. Considering he's her right hand man, it makes sense and makes him more believable imo

Not a huge fan, sorry. Mostly because he made this whole thing about me being an Eye of the Queen, and then literally everyone forgot about it, including himself. Broke continuity of my relationship with him, so I lost interest.

*rolls eyes* I like every race except orc and argonian. Admittedly, after those two my least favorite is altmer. But khajiit and bosmer and breton are my real loves.

I play all factions across my characters. I have khajiit in EP, bosmer in DC. I'm not a loyalist of any faction - in fact, I really dislike the whole war scenario. I play games to get away from RL - the war in this game doesn't help me with that, so I ignore the whole premise.

Faction loyalty? Not only no, but HELL NO.

That's because it's blue and a lion (I like blue, and I love cats). I have DC, AD, and EP characters in reasonably even numbers - though I really am not much involved in EP (it's my least favorite faction). And what I choose as an avatar on a forum has zero to do with how I play the game.

If I could have my own uploaded avatar, it would be very different. But this particular forum doesn't allow for that at all. My avatar has nothing to do with faction "loyalty" - because I actually hate the entire "faction" crap.

Alas, for tis true the dear Furball is not very much liked indeed. He certainly for me at least is very disconnected and I feel borderline uncomfortable and annoyed as well. The appearance, pose , accent do not fit. Although he can be unintentionally funny I do not find him funny at all in comparison to other cats. Razum-Dar is too cold ,mean, disassociated to other of his kind. It comes from personal perspective as a player I could stand his monotonic dialogue and I have not enjoyed his presence. Mohawk haircut is laughable ,not nearly badass for me, Generally facial aesthetics as they were trying to pull of someone famous in a cat form. Universally liked because Felines are overall, mayhaps. To put it simply Razum-Dar is way too different for my taste ,especially for Khajit race.

I like him as a character, and his dialogue/interactions during quests are nice, especially because of the great voice acting. He is not one of my favourite characters though, and despire his congeniality towards the Vestige, I've always thought Raz deep down was kind of a cold individual, I have a headcanon about it, but yeah, as far as Vestige companions go, there are other characters I like more.

He may be a grumpy old man, but that certainly results in large part from all the things he's seen in his life. That makes him a much more interesting character for me than, for example, the type of insecure little girl who has to find her place in the world - such as Svana or Eveli.

He maybe egotistical but it's in part due to his great talent as a mage. And despite all his big talk, he really did care for Tamriel and it's people.

(And since I've so far played through everything but Murkmire, most of the Pact main quest, half of Orsinium, the DB crap and a bit of the Reach, I've met him quite a few times.)

    Hehe...

Raz is kind of... a player?

I kinda always had this idea of him, and then got it confirmed when I was doing the Elsweyr story line. Between his mother, brother and the four women he was "friendly with" it would seem he actually had quite a backstory, lol :D

That said, I have always enjoyed him and generally all the Khajiit immensly, so I am kinda biased.
